How To Live A 'Spirit-Driven' Lifestyle | Jeffrey Allen

Jeffrey Allen contrasts mind-driven living, which breeds stress and conformity, with trusting your spirit to guide decisions. He met his wife Isami across language barriers after letting go of control, and walks through obstacles like fear and pride that block the shift.

So I think what we need is not a self driving car. I think what we need is a self driving life. And I believe that that's where we're going. I think what it's going to look like instead of this mind driven world where it's stressful and external decisions and you're basically chasing success and happiness, I think that we're quickly going to move and we are moving already, which is why we're seeing the technology change. We're moving over here to more of a spirit driven lifestyle where your focus is internal and you're thinking about fulfilling your desires and you're trusting that whatever the higher power is for you, whether it's God or it's your higher self or it's the universe, that the universe has your back and that the entire universe is conspiring to help you be happy and successful and have fun and passion and all these great things. Because when you believe that you can let go and you notice that, wow, happiness starts to find you and it's really fun. Now of course, like I said, anytime there's a change, there's going to be some obstacles that you have to overcome. And it turns out that these obstacles are the same as for the self driving car. So first you've got to learn how to trust. You've got to learn how to trust that if I give up controlling everything with my brain, I'm still going to get good results. And this is kind of scary. Like I did this probably. Well, I'm always doing this over and over and over because I'm a strong mind guy, but I'm also a strong spirit guy. So I'm always trying to let go and find that balance. But there's been so many times where I said I've been trying to figure it out. I'll give you a good example. When I was 40, I'd been single for about 10 years. I was really excited about getting married and really wanted to be in the relationship with the partner of my dreams. And I've been trying, I've been thinking about it and trying to go to the places, like maybe she'd do yoga. So I'll go do yoga. You know, maybe she'd be in Sedona. I'll just move to Sedona, you know, maybe I'll meet her there, right? So my brain was trying to put me in the right situations. And then finally I got it. I was like, if I knew what I was doing, if I knew how to make a relationship that was right for me, I probably would have done it already. I've had plenty of time. Clearly my brain does not know how to do this. And so I just gave up. And then I just said, okay, universe, if there is the right person out there for me, help. I give up. I can't do it. Just let me find this person. And it's really fun because that's when I met my wife, Isami. And Isami is right back here in the back. And when, and even then though my mind, if I'd have just been using my mind, I couldn't have started that relationship because she's Japanese and I'm American. And it's not that that's difficult, it's that she doesn't speak English and I don't speak Japanese. That's when we met. I knew. I'm like, my spirit's telling me it's the right person, but all I can say is konnichiwa. No, that's as far as we got. And she could say, hi, I'm Hisami, you know. And so it takes a lot of trust to follow your spirit because, you know, eight months later we were married. And still. We've been married seven years. We still don't actually. Are we fluent in the same language yet? Unless you include energy as a language. We're fluent in energy. But it's beautiful, it's fantastic. It's perfect for me. But my mind never could have got me there, right. I had to go with a spirit driven choice there. And you'll see the other obstacles too. Shared intent, control, humility. You have to have all these things to let your spirit drive and balance out our strong minds. Especially because our program is to follow our mind. Now as you do this, what you'll notice is if you're over here, this is the mind side, by the way. This is the spirit side. That's why I'm moving back and forth. So if you're in your mind right here, you're used to the fast lane looking kind of like this, right? You're in the lane, it's moving fast, you're going the same way everybody else is going. But the problem with this is there's always that other side that looks like this. Because if you're driving where everybody else is driving, there's going to be traffic. You're not going to go fast all the time. And when you switch over to this side over here, into your spirit driven life, what you'll notice is that the fast lane starts to look like this, right? And the reason why it's Fast is not because you're driving fast, but because it's going to the place you need to go, right? So I'll say that again, it's not the fast lane because you're driving fast. It's the fast lane because it's going to the place you need to go, not the place everybody else is going. And you'll still hit traffic, but your traffic is going to look kind of like this, right? So this is New Zealand traffic. And so when you do hit traffic, things won't always go the pace you want. But when it doesn't work out, it's going to be kind of fun, right? If you get in this traffic jam, you're laughing, you're taking pictures, you're not angry, you're like, I can't believe it. Look at what happened. And so that's what it looks like when you're in this spirit driven life looks more like this. I want to do a little exercise with you right now and kind of help you tune in and sort of find your spirit driven life and just see if you can get through those obstacles of letting go. So just take a deep breath and close your eyes and you can just feel the chair underneath you and feel your feet on the floor and just feel yourself being really powerful and really present in your body. You might feel yourself a little bit warm, it's nice and grounded. And then I want you to visualize that you are driving your car and you're going somewhere where you need to get to. You don't have a lot of extra time and you're not 100% sure how to get there. It's a new place. Maybe you're making decisions and you know you're starting to hit some traffic. And then you remember, oh yeah, I've got this self driving car. And so you just push the self drive button, you tell it where you want to go and just notice. How does that feel for you? Is it, is it easy? Is it scary? Can you let go of control and then fast forward a little bit to where you're getting to your destination and you're just a few minutes early. Maybe you had a nice nap on the way, if that's legal. And how do you feel now about that self driving car? Okay, very good. Okay, now imagine that you're doing a little planning session for the next year. Could be the next two years, next five years. Something that's really important for you right now. It could be career, relationship, health, family. And think about all the decisions that you have to make all the roads that you need to go down that you don't understand yet and that it's really up to you. This is a high stakes game. This is your life. It's. If you make the wrong turn, you are the one that gets the results. And just notice, does that feel good or does that feel a little bit stressful? And now just remember, oh, yeah, I have this new spirit driven life, this new self driving life. And just kind of push that button and let your spirit, let your own guidance start to tell you where to go and feel that powerful energy that the entire universe is conspiring to help you get to those goals, to be happy and healthy and have passion and purpose. And notice that you don't have to know all the answers because your spirit does. And then see yourself in the future as you imagine you're obtaining those goals. Maybe you're at a place you didn't even know was your goal. And just have a little smile looking back at how much easier it was that you let your spirit drive. All right, very good. Okay. And you just breathe and open your eyes again. So hopefully that gave you a little example of what it's like to be here, what it's like to be over here.
