A short YouTube monologue (by Vishen Lakhiani) offering a hypnotherapy-style visualization to manage unwanted memories and worries: mentally 'float' out of upsetting images, visualize the back of your head as you move away, drain color to make the memory black-and-white, shrink and remove the image, then intentionally imagine something positive to retrain the brain to favor pleasant thoughts.

Unwanted thoughts, flashbacks or worries or things like that. Now, this is what you do. Some people tell me they're bothered by unwanted thoughts. There are only two ways to feel good or bad. Either remember something good or bad that's happened. Or imagine something good or bad that could happen. Now, if you're remembering something bad that happened that's upsetting you, there'll be a picture of it, maybe even a movie. And you'll be inside it. This is what you do. You stop and you float out of the picture, out of the movie of that thing that was upsetting you. And you float it further and further away as you see the back of your head as you move it off into the distance. And then you drain all the color out. So it becomes like an old black and white picture. Like it's happening to somebody else. And as the color drains out, the feelings diminish. And then when you shrink the image down and disappear it, they change. Because then you think about something nice, something you're looking forward to, or something that makes you feel happy. So you're saying to the brain, not that, but this instead. And as you practice that, sometimes you do for a day or so, every time you catch yourself having those unwanted thoughts, you step out and you make it black and white and you send it away, and you step into something new. You train your brain to stop having unwanted thoughts and have nice thoughts.
