The speaker (Vishen Lakhiani) argues that while personal responsibility for change is empowering, genuine transformation depends on interaction with others. Psychologists’ view that people cannot evolve in isolation is used to justify Mindvalley’s heavy emphasis on community; the speaker explains that community members and live, group exercises make self-love and inner change experientially possible.

In person growth, there's this one fundamental idea that you're responsible for your own life and you're responsible for your own results. It is empowering in some ways, but also it has its limitations. Because sometimes we go so deep into that idea that we think that everything about transformation, about our own transformation, is just about ourselves. You are doing this work, internal work, and you're working on your own. But in psychology, there's another interesting concept that we can discover ourselves or we get to understand ourselves through interaction with the world around us. So no matter how much responsibility for your own transformation is in your own hands, it is absolutely impossible unless you have people around you who reflect back at you your own journey. Psychologists believe you cannot evolve in isolation. You need interaction, you need community, you need people, and ideally people who support you, you who have your back. And that's why in Mindvalley we believe in community so much. We actually put so much effort into communities, probably as much as we put into finding good new teachers, creating amazing curriculums, because we understand the power of community for your personal transformation. If you truly care about your transformation, you can't take it as a solo journey. Your success depends very much on your community, on the people who are around you. Surprisingly, when it comes to self love or your relationship with yourself, despite how it feels that it's about you and yourself, you do need the community to help you experience the transformation. I very often rely on your community for you to be able to get the transformation, to get the experience. Sometimes we are not aware of how mean we are to ourselves unless we reflect it against other people around us. Sometimes, just for us to experience that unconditional self love, we just need to hear the words. And maybe we have these words in our head, but we need to hear them from someone else. So in my course, in my program, I have several exercises where that feel of the community or the other person will be the instrument for your transformation. Because they will deliver those lines which just don't sound the same if you're saying them to yourself. But in your work on your relationship with yourself, the community is particularly important. And that's why I have decided to create this live event where you don't do just your own solo work, but you actually do the work together with other people.
