What is the Alpha movement?
For me, modern Alpha is an absolutely different thing. We want to achieve our goals, our objectives. Regardless what it is, we don't stop. We live in an era where taking decisions is extremely hard. A lot of people are not taking decisions, taking the tough decisions, being influential, being impactful, taking care of the loved ones.
Become an Alpha. What are the top five characteristics that we need to step into?
First of all, you have to have the courage. Number two.
Thank you so much for being with us today. Today we have Saif Al Hakim, the Alpha leader, the entrepreneur, the mentor, the real OG Alpha with us. He is the founder of the Alpha Movement and the best selling author of the Alpha Unleashed. And today he's here to share with us how discipline is and mindset can help us with wealth creation and business success. Thank you so much for being with us today.
It's a pleasure and an honor and happy to see all the people in this, I would say.
Hall, I was reading about your background and it's so interesting how you went from being CMO of Samsung to then an athlete for Mr. Olympia. How do you think those two experiences shifted your career and to become the entrepreneur that you are right now?
I love this question. Being in corporate or a corporate executive? It's very important that we live in an era that says being in corporate is something not good. Try to be an entrepreneur because what we see in social media, but corporate, especially in a blue chip company, it gives you one of the main important things to be an entrepreneur, which is strategic planning. You'll be able to forecast, see the competitiveness of the market. I used to work in a very competitive landscape. The consumer electronics, the mobile devices changed my mindset completely. I'm always innovative, creative, looking for improvements and at the same time, being in corporate makes your network very strong. So I have my partners, my network across the globe. So it helped me to become an entrepreneur. Of course there's absolutely two different areas I would say on the other hand, being a sports person, like national team of kung fu, Mr. Olympia, never give up. I never give up. You can knock me down, but I'm coming back up. The resilience, the discipline, the consistency. I used to train every single day that an entrepreneur, that's what you need, the mindset.
So is that what inspired you to create the Alpha movement?
What inspired me to create the Alpha movement started from COVID when I was sitting back at home and was looking at people doing nothing. They were consuming content, watching Netflix and all these things and not doing anything with the Life. And it pushed me to create such movement, which is very simple, to make people go beyond their comfort zone to beyond their potential even. And that's the whole concept behind the Alpha movement.
What is the Alpha movement?
Oh, let's start. Let's start by what's an Alpha? For me, because a lot of people think about the Alpha as the egocentric, the dominant, that type, but that was in the old days. For me, it's modern. Alpha is an absolutely different thing, which I would say in a nutshell, is a person whose stop button is broken. We don't stop. We want to achieve our goals, our objectives. Regardless what it is, we don't stop. The second thing is becoming the person who takes tough decisions. We live in an era where taking decisions is extremely hard. A lot of people are not taking decisions, taking the tough decisions, being influential, being impactful, taking care of the loved ones. These are the, I would say, modern traits of an Alpha. From here came the Alpha movement, where I want to help and impact people. So I created several pillars within the Alpha movement to help me do that. One of them is a training platform. The other thing is the book series. The third is a magazine, online training platforms. Because my understanding of success changed over time from sports to being in corporate, to have an influence, my understanding or definition of success evolved. And to put it in perspective, when I'm a sportsman, my success means I want to win. It's a personal achievement. I wanted to win and that's it. When I was in corporate executive, my success was delivering value to the company, organization, lead my team, being an influencer, a thought leader, my definition of success changed. I want more impact, help people. So that's in a nutshell, what's an Alpha moment?
So when you say that your definition of success has changed and evolved over time from job to job, was there a common ground, a common theme in all of those definitions?
Growth, growth 100% growth and personal growth, 100%. What made me achieve being a national team, being in Mr. Olympia, being a top executive in. I was the youngest CMO globally. And now as an entrepreneur is always I'm looking for growth.
So when you say the word Alpha, a lot of us, we have that preconceived notion that Alpha means a macha man who's very tough, difficult to connect with. And as women, we're not so crazy about Alpha men anymore, because women like to be understood and nurtured and women like to be with a man who's in touch with his feminine side.
True.
In your definition of Alpha is an alpha in touch with his feminine side.
Of course, of course. That's why the wrong definition of an Alpha is the old old days definition of an Alpha. The new definition of the modern Alpha is in absolutely different traits which I explained. Plus, an Alpha in our era is a person who wants to stand out from all the distractions that we have. I'm focusing on my goal, I'm focusing on my relationships, being vulnerable, being speak my weaknesses as my strength. So that's the modern Alpha, not the one that's dominant, the egocentric, the selfish, not that at all.
So the Alpha movement, for people who are interested in joining that movement, what is the requirement?
Hunger. Hunger as an individual, you need to be hungry to progress. You want hungry to develop. That's the only thing.
And how can we define if that hunger is coming from our ego and the need to be validated and be seen, or if the hunger is coming from the need to grow and to become a better version of ourselves?
Majority of the time the hunger comes from that. You want to grow from an ego. When you have a very high ego, because I passed by this in my life, you completely get blind. You don't think you need to grow because I'm the top of the world already. So it cannot come from an ego. If you're an ego and a downside, you don't think you'll grow. You don't look at your team, take their opinions or whatever it is. So you don't think you want to grow. You're becoming fixed mindset. You don't have a growth mindset. So 100% the people who are hungry and they're visible that they're hungry, they want to develop, succeed and go forward, it's much more about growth.
What is the difference between the growth mindset versus the fixed mindset?
It's in very simple nutshell that the fixed mindset, the person doesn't want to progress, develop. It doesn't take opinions. If you tell me your opinion or if the person failed, they think it's a failure. Growth mindset. I want to develop every single day. I will take opinions to develop myself. That's a growth mindset. I learn every single day. I'm open to that. Once you have a closed mindset, you're as if you're in a vacuum. You don't want to listen to anyone, you think you're the best, that's it. Or if I want to develop a skill and I'm not good at it right now, I think I'm not Good at it. I'm not born with it. That's fixed mindset.
A lot of us mix success with self worth, meaning that our definition of our self worth depends on our level of success. How does an Alpha think about self worth versus success?
I will go in this direction. That definition of success differs from one person to another 100%. So it's very subjective. There can be a female, a lady, she wants her success means I'm the best mother in the world. That's it. It comes to another person. No, my bank account is my success. So it's an absolutely different. And your self worth will correlate to what you define to yourself. What is the level of success or what success means to you? Because it's very generic to say I'm successful or you tell me I am successful, what do you know about me to tell me I'm successful. How do you know my criteria of success? So it's absolutely subjective. You want to be the best mother in the world. You want to be the best father in the world. That's success to you. It's absolutely different to you.
But then here's the thing. If my definition of success as being the best mother in the world, does that mean that if my child is not happy with me, my self worth should feel I should lower my self worth? Or if my bank account is not as good as it was yesterday, should that affect my self worth?
Your objective is to. To have an end goal. Because success for me is never an end goal. End goal.
I see.
Which means if I want to be the best father in the world, if my son is not happy today, I will make sure that I progress as a father every single day. I'm going towards this direction. My bank account is not the number that I want to see every single day I'm going to work. So my success is the progress, not the end result.
I see. So an Alpha's definition of success is not a destination, it's the journey.
It's an absolutely journey. The destination is just to put the compass, the map, where I'm going.
Okay.
But it's not the end result. Why? Because as humans, we love to change our goals once we reach it. You're happy one single day or neck. Okay, what's my next goal? So if you continue like this, that you're waiting until you reach the destination, your life will be full of misery. I'm waiting until I reach this point. The next day I change the goal and I go to the next. So you're going from misery to Misery to misery. Enjoy the process, the journey.
So if we're all ready to become an Alpha, what are the top five characteristics that we need to step into?
100%. First of all, you have to have the courage. Number two, you have to be consistent. You need to know your why. A lot of people are just motivated for the sake of motivation. You need to know your why. Third, never, ever give up. You can pivot, but never give up. Third, always grow, always progress. I say to Everybody, I have two hours per day. I think it goes 20 years back every two hours. I have two hours per day to study whatever it is according to my goals for the quarter. I have two hours to develop myself.
So are you guys ready to step into your Alpha side?
