The One Thing You Need To Get You Mind Working On Your Favor | Marisa Peer

Marisa Peer explains why your brain defaults to negative thinking and how to rewire it. The trick: tell your mind what you want in vivid, present-tense language like "I'm ready for it," not what you're afraid of. Aim for 90% positive thoughts, 10% negative, since your mind acts on your words.

You're one of those people who tries really, really hard to be positive. I'm a positive thinker. I'm a positive person. I'm going to be positive. When you try to be positive all the time, you often feel like you're failing. Well, here's the truth. You're actually wired to be negative. Really? Absolutely. I was in Australia a couple of years ago. I had to do two negative things every day. Every time I left the house, I had to stamp my feet really hard so the snakes would slither away. And then every time I found my shoes, I had to shake them. Get case there was a poisonous spider in there. That's kind of negative, right? But that negativity kept me alive. I put my seatbelt on every time I get in a car and every time I'm on a plane, I put on my seatbelt, I put on my alarm, I lock my doors. If I'm walking home or even driving home and it's dark and late at night, I become very aware of who's around me. Is that because I'm negative? No, it's because my primitive mind understands one thing. Being negative keeps you alive. In fact, you are hardwired and super coded to be a little bit negative to stay alive. And the problem is people think I've got to be 100% positive. I've got to be a positive person every minute, every day. No, the deal is be 90% positive and 10% negative. So once you understand the first bit. Oh, right, I'm actually wired to be negative. You understand the next bit. It's really, really easy to fall into negative behavior. I don't want you to do that. It's easy to get into this all going to go wrong, we'll all end in tears. It's never going to work out. I knew that was a mistake. I knew I'd messed that up. I'm worried about everything. It's really easy to do that. But you know what else? It's really easy to overcome it. You see, your mind has a job. And of course, it's a really important job. Your mind's job is to listen to what you and to act upon it. When you say, this commute is killing me. My job is making me go crazy, my kid is making me insane. If I get ghosted one more time, I'm going to kill myself. These are throwaway words. But your mind's job is to act on your words, especially negative ones. And when you say my job is killing me, your mind's like, oh, my Job is to keep you alive. I got to get you away from that place that's killing you called your job. Why don't I give you flu or chronic diarrhea or some kind of nervous thing so you can't go to the place called Job. So your mind's job is to listen to your words. And here's your job, and it's a great job. Your job is to tell your mind what you want. Like a Spice Girl. Tell your mind what you want, what you really, really want. And use powerful, relevant, detailed, exciting words. I'm finding love because I'm lovable. I. I can talk about something I love. I've got something to say. I can plan to get a great job if it doesn't work out. At least I know I did the very best. So some magic words you can use that really change your life. I want this. I want it. I'm ready for it. It's ready for me. I've chosen to go after what I want, and I've chosen to be excited and positive. I want it. Give your mind a clear image of what you want, and your mind will give that right back to you.
