Why Affirmations Don't Work (And What To Do Instead) | Vishen Lakhiani

Vishen Lakhiani explains why affirmations fail: your brain rejects statements that contradict reality. Instead, he recommends lofty questions, which prompt your subconscious to search for evidence. Ask once in a relaxed state, then let your mind work.

Stop saying affirmations. They simply don't work. So here's the problem with affirmations. You stand in front of a mirror and you say something such as, I am wealthy, I am abundant, money flows to me effortlessly. And there's this niggly voice at the back of your head that says, no, you don't. You ate ramen noodles from a packet twice this week. Your brain is not stupid. It rejects statements it knows isn't true because you cannot reaffirm a belief you do not actually believe. So here's what does work. I learned it from a brilliant mystic called Christine Marie Sheldon. She was a teacher on Mindvalley. She calls this lofty questions. Instead of telling your brain something it will reject, you ask it a question it can't refuse. Instead of saying, I am wealthy, you say, why is money flowing to me so easily? Your brain cannot reject a question. It doesn't argue with it. Instead, it does something beautiful. It goes searching for the answer and it starts finding evidence, noticing missing opportunities, connecting dots you couldn't see before. This is your brain's reticular activating system, the part of your brain that filters out what you notice in the world. When you ask it a question, you literally reprogram what it's scanning for. So let me give you 4 lofty questions right now. Screenshot these. For money, why is money flowing to me so easily? For love, why am I always surrounded by people who deeply love and appreciate me? For health, why does my body heal, strengthen, and get healthier every single day? For career, why do my dreams and goals come to me with such ease and speed? Now, here's the key. You don't repeat these 100 times like a broken robot. You ask a question once in a relaxed state, morning meditation, just before going to bed, when you're brain is in a lower brainwave frequency, alpha or theta. And you do this once and then you let go. You let your subconscious do its job. Now there's more to the technique, of course. It goes deeper. There's an entire 5-step principle for crafting effective lofty questions. And if you want to go deeper in this technique, I've created a longer video on YouTube that takes you through the entire approach. Go ahead and subscribe to my YouTube channel. The link is below this video. Watch the Lofty Questions video, and I'd love to know what you think. Mindvalley's been around for 22 years, and I can tell you that out of thousands of techniques across thousands of authors, this has been one of the techniques that I've seen create the best results in people in the shortest amount of time. Now, if you wanna go deeper, Mindvalley is hosting Mindvalley's Manifesting Summit this month. It's happening live online. I'll see you there.
