People check their phones over 2,000 times a day, chasing dopamine hits like sugar or gambling. The speakers argue hypnosis works better than willpower for breaking the habit, and that real happiness comes from living by your values, not from the next quick hit.
You're only ever one thought away from happiness. I mean, what a beautiful way to put it.
So I've heard you say that the number one thing to help quit smoking in the US is hypnosis.
Yes.
And we know that if we look at it, one of the things is the reward system. We're getting a dopamine hit. Do you think that the number one thing to cure this addiction to technology is hypnosis?
People look at their phones more than like 2,000 times a day now. And when you are talking to somebody and the phone is there, uh, they're not as present with you cuz they're They're looking, seeing if they're getting likes, cuz it's a, it's a mix, it's a dance of dopamine and serotonin, these happy neurotransmitters, right? And you're right, you know, people are getting high off that. But they're, you know, look, if you look at it, everyone changes the way they feel by some external means. Drinking, drug taking, gambling, sex, shopping, and the world's drug of choice, food, particularly sugar food. And of course, things like, you know, social media, technology, etc. So we as a species like to seek pleasure, right? And I love pleasure, but it's different to happiness. And pleasure is a glass of champagne, you know, it's a bubble bath, it's something like that. Happiness is always there. It's when you're living your values, you know, when you're, when you're in sync with your values, um, you feel naturally happy. But in fact, in a way, happiness is always there and we sort of get in the way. And I love, there's a great saying by a guy called Sid Banks. Which is you're, you're only ever one thought away from happiness. I mean, what a beautiful way to put it.
