Why you don't need to clear your mind to meditate

Vishen Lakhiani argues that meditation doesn't require clearing your mind. Instead of passive focus on breath, active meditation uses your mind to transform problems into solutions and clarify goals. His Six Phase Meditation method taps into states that accelerate performance and wellbeing.

So when you're meditating, you're supposed to clear your mind, right? Turns out this is not true at all. Your mind can actually be full, even full of problems. So there are two types of meditation. There's the type that says you gotta clear your mind, you gotta focus on your breath. I personally find that boring, hard to do, and just so unnecessary. But because of that myth that you need to clear your mind, that you need to focus on your breath, so many people give up meditation. And this is absolutely tragic. The next type of meditation is actually called active meditation. So, okay, so that first type, we call it passive meditation. We're going to put that aside because I don't like passive meditation. What I like is active meditation. Active meditation is when you actually use your mind to take the problems and to turn problems into solutions. This is what I mean. You take the stress of the previous day and you figure out how to look at what is causing you stress and make it disappear. You look at visions and goals of things that you want to reach, that you might maybe find challenging or difficult or not know the path. And you tap into different states of minds and you use different types of tools to actually see the path clearing, to develop clarity on how to get there. To see these visions so real that you believe it's possible. And believe, of course, is everything. Active meditation is the secret to top performance. Active meditation is the secret to moving towards goals easily. Active meditation is the secret to bliss. And it's so much easier than trying to get your mind to stop thinking. There's an old Zen saying, the mind is like a drunken monkey always jumping from tree to tree. Let your monkey jump. Focus on active meditation. Active meditation is what I advocate and my six phase meditation method, my new book deals with this topic. With the book, you also get a trainer app where I guide you into this approach. It's surprisingly easy to learn, but you can spend years refining it. But once you learn this approach, you will immediately, instantly, in 20 minutes, feel different. And within a few days, you will start showing up to work, showing up in life in a completely different way. The six phase meditation method is truly powerful and it's all in that book. And guys, we're gonna need a mop here. I'm gonna go meditate.
