In this short monologue, the speaker argues that suppressing emotions is ineffective and harmful. He uses the metaphor of pushing an inflated ball underwater: keeping the ball submerged requires constant effort, just as repressing feelings demands continual energy. In the body this manifests as chronic tension in skeletal (striated) and smooth muscles. When a stressful event overwhelms a person and control is lost, the “hands loosen,” the ball bursts to the surface, and the pent‑up emotions erupt. The speaker concludes that long‑term emotional suppression never benefits us because it creates persistent physiological tension and inevitably leads to an uncontrolled emotional outburst.
