How would a new promoter build a relationship with a booking agent so that they're a trusted— because everybody starts somewhere.
For sure. Um, I would probably start them with one of my less riskier clients, um, somebody that fit that demographic. I'm going to do some research on the market and make sure that market is good for the artist. And then first and foremost, make sure the money's there. I would require a 50% deposit up front and then make sure that the artist is paid in full before the artist even gets there. As an agent, it's my job to protect an artist and make sure that they're always paid at the end of the day. So if I'm, as the agent, taking the risk to work with a brand new promoter, I gotta make sure I cross my T's and dot my I's or else everything falls back on me. I have to take responsibility for that.
