A curator argues that music curation lost its way around 2011-2012 when profit motives took over. Curators stopped filtering for quality and started positioning themselves as taste arbiters, forcing fans to wade through mediocre tracks instead of discovering consistently good music.

And one of the great things is it gives a place for the music hardcore fans, like the early adopters, a place to come to discover music where everything, everything is good. There's no sifting through, um, stuff that, that isn't quality. And on top of that, it's One of my complaints about curation in music, and of course when it got oversaturated, curators stepped up and said, okay, I'm gonna, I'm gonna be the beacon for this. I'm the arbiter of taste, right? So now I have a playlist or now I write articles reviewing records or whatever, whatever, you know, whatever form that takes. I noticed that it became about money, like around 2011, 2012, 2012.
