Today, we recognize Presidents’ Day—a moment to honor leadership at the highest level of our nation.

William Davis, drawing on 38 years leading teams, argues that true leadership means serving others, not wielding power. Leaders at every level are accountable to the public and must listen, build trust, and put people first. Without that focus, he says, they lose legitimacy.

Hi everyone, this is William Davis and this is today's Leadership Minute. Today is Presidents' Day in the United States, a day that we recognize leadership at the highest level of our nation. Not just the current president, but we remember the great ones from the past. But let's be honest about something. Leadership was never meant to be about power, It was never meant to be about position or, in particular, personal gain. It was meant to be about the people. Whether you wear a title in Washington or in your statehouse or in your local community, you serve a boss— we, the American people. It's something that's been forgotten over the years. But you see, when you have real leaders, they understand that real leadership, true leadership, puts the needs of others ahead of self-interest. It listens before it speaks. It seeks to understand before it reacts. It builds trust instead of tearing people apart for personal gain and personal advantage. In my 38-year career leading teams was the most important thing that I did, because the only way we gained, only way we succeeded, was together. You see, when leaders forget who they serve, they lose the very people that they are supposed to be leading. Our nation doesn't need more noise. It needs more leaders who build genuine relationships Leaders who act with integrity, empathy, and most of all, accountability. So today, let's not just celebrate past presidents. Let's push our current leaders at every level to remember the foundation of leadership. You don't work for the position. The position works for the people, and when leaders truly serve, they trust that people have, and not only them, but the position and the process is restored, and great things become possible. Let's not forget what the preamble to the Constitution says: We. the people. Leaders, particularly in government, remember, we're the ones that you serve. This is William Davis, and this has been today's Leadership Minute.
