In this monologue, former quantity surveyor William Doyle recounts a £20 million loss on the Northwest electrification project that occurred not because work was undone, but because the necessary records were scattered across paper diaries, inboxes, and half‑filled forms, making the claim non‑contractual and the payment unrecoverable. This experience highlighted that, for commercial teams, properly structured, contract‑ready records are essential protection against unpaid work and claim failures. Recognising this systemic issue—commercial teams spending excessive time piecing together site diaries, WhatsApp messages, and unstructured data—Doyle founded Gather, a platform that centralises and structures project records, turning them into contract‑ready documentation. Gather aims to eliminate the administrative firefighting that delays risk management, ensuring claims are defensible and payments are secured across construction projects.
