Will Kelly warns lawn-care owners not to schedule custom landscape installations during spring rush. Customers won't wait weeks for a cut, and telling them you're backed up means they'll switch to a competitor. Spring demand should go entirely to recurring revenue from existing clients.

Most guys get this completely backwards and I see it all the time. They try to do the custom landscape installs right in the middle of April or the spring rush. It ruins their route density, it burns out their guys, and it wastes the highest demand period of the entire year. Listen to me closely, in the spring rush, your focus must be 100% on recurring revenue. That is the period of highest demand. The weather warms up, the grass starts to grow, your customers need work right now. They cannot wait 3 weeks to get their lawn cut. If they call you and you tell them you're backed up, got a patio install for the next month, they are going to hang up that phone and call the next guy, and you are going to miss the window. You need to serve those recurring customers immediately during the spring rush.
