Are you wanting to start a lawn care business but don't have a lot of money? If you're like me, that's where I was at when I was just getting started. I didn't have a lot of money, but I had more time. And in the beginning, money is important because if you only have, you know, a couple hundred dollars or a couple thousand dollars to start, you want to make sure you're utilizing that to get the greatest return on your investment. So the best investment that you can make is giving your business when you're just getting started, your time because it doesn't cost money. Now, in today's video, I'm going to be sharing with you multiple different ways that you can start and grow your lawn care business with literally zero money. Just some sweat equity which is going to consider you taking time. You must have time, effort and consistency. Which is the last key that I see most people fail to do is be consistent with this. The very first thing for anybody that's just getting started and you've only maybe got less than a handful of customers, that gets overlooked very, very easily. Use the one or two or three customers or neighbors that you already have or are doing services for. Ask for Google reviews, ask for referrals for your neighbors, put a yard sign in their yard, take before and after pictures. These are all very low cost things that you can do. Let's just assume you're, you know, like me at one point where you didn't even have a single customer or literally any money at all. So let's talk about that. So the first thing you can do is create a Google business process profile. It is literally the best way. It's completely free. All you do is go to Google my business, create a business name, fully complete your profile, add the services that you're going to offer, put a service area, post photos of your lawnmower, before and after photos once you get that first customer and then make sure you're asking these customers for a review. Once you actually get one or two customers in the beginning, that won't actually grow your business. Why? Because you don't have any customers. So get it created first and that will help you start to rank good on Google to where it may pop up on the map. Search. When people search lawn care near me, the next thing that you can do is organic social media. As long as you do it correctly, you do not need to go viral. All you need to do is post before and after pictures of the lawns that you're servicing. You can even do A day in the life of stuff. Starting a lawn care business. You could do customer transformations. So before and after things you could do educational, you know, why does this lawn look bad? Here's how to improve it. Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube shorts. You can document the process of what you're already doing. It's completely free. It just takes your time. Get inside of the city Facebook group the neighborhood Facebook group the community Facebook group. Post what you're doing. Take a picture of you in front of your mower. Introduce yourself. Hey, my name is Will. I just got out of the military. I'm starting my lawn care business. You or someone you know needs some lawn care this summer. Hey, reach out to me for a great price, okay? This will start to get you some traction to help get you your first five, 10 or 15 customers. It's very good. There are people inside of these groups that come spring will go on there and say does anybody have a good lawn care guy? You should be the first one to comment. Often every time somebody in the neighborhood or the city is asking for lawn care, tag your Google my business. Okay, most people who don't like sales are scared of this. This is required in order for you to a good salesperson. If you're going to try to grow a lawn care business, the one skill set you must master is sales and marketing. This is part of it. You need an upset customer to slam the door in your face. It's okay, you're going to learn from it. Probably don't want to say what you said when that happens. All right, learn from it. Just learn from it. Get better at it, get savvy at it. It's going to take a hundred no's, maybe a thousand no's for you to go and knock. But eventually, the more no's you get, the better you're going to get, the closer you're going to get to the next sale and you're going to start to learn how to convert people and be confident in and the product that you offer. Door knocking still works. The other reason why this is very effective is it keeps it a very close niche. Oftentimes I always encourage people to go door knocking locally exactly where they're going to be servicing. We built our lawn care business in our HOA residential neighborhood. So I door knocked on like the five or ten surrounding streets from my house. Why? Well, I didn't have a truck or a trailer where I could drive cities away to go service somebody's lawn. I had to literally walk with my mower and a blower to these people's houses. And that's how we got started by door knocking. Printed out a couple flyers at home. You know, I already had a printer. I just put my name, phone number. Some of the services we offer, I understand that's not free, but if you have that resource, maybe you could print that off at home. If you don't, you can ask a neighbor, hey, can I print off, you know, 100 pieces of paper of a flyer? All of these things are going to help you grow your lawn care business. Once you get going and you get a little bit of money, I would encourage you spend that money on door hangers. This is one of the most effective ways that I see try to get three to five customers, just, just a small handful and then take that money that you're earning from those, those few people that found you on Facebook that got your Google my business. Once you get rolling and you start asking them for reviews, you'll start to get more calls and more people wanting your services. Take some money. It's very, very cheap. I think it's like 15 cents a door hanger. Go get a thousand door hangers and then start canvassing your neighborhoods, the 10 to 15 streets local to your house or your neighborhood. That is what gets you started when you don't have a lot of money in the beginning. And if you do these things consistently over and over and over again and you start to roll that money that you're starting to get from the first five to 10 customers into more door hangers and more sales, that is what will drive the business. I often see many people just getting started. They fall into this trap of buying more equipment. Please don't do that. Spend the money on the marketing, get the customers, do the service. And then once you get a decent clientele, then you can upgrade the equipment. Then you can update the mower, the weed eater, the blower. I use an electrical plug in blower for like the first four months of my business. In fact, actually rewind. I used a broom to sweep off the sidewalk, the driveway and the curbs when I first started. Was it efficient? No. But it was the sweat equity that I put into the business to now grow it into what it is today, which is a 1.2 million doll dollar operation. And we don't use brooms anymore by the way. But that's what is required. That humility, that time spent. It's the beauty of growing a business. Are you willing to do what 99% of other people aren't willing to do? If so, that will allow you to reach your goals, right?
