Short advisory segment from a lawn-care entrepreneur encouraging mowing businesses to expand beyond basic mowing into complementary services (bush trimming, de-weeding, mulching, property cleanups) to increase margins, reduce reliance on low-profit repeat mowing, and enable scaling out of the physical, truck-based grind. The speaker describes a practice of upselling or offboarding customers who only want mowing.

Focusing on mowing itself is a recipe for disaster. So I encourage you to branch outside of the mowing service. In the mowing business, find other jobs that you can upsell the customer a really good leeway into. This is basic lawn and landscaping services, bush trimming, de weeding, mulch. These are easy upsells that you can take a very generic, low profit customer that only generates you 32 visits at a very fractionable cost. Once you actually factor in all the equipment and the maintenance and all of those things, if you want to do it right, if you want to really build a true business to get out of the truck, get stuck in that physical grind, and I've been here before, it's not fun. The way that you fix that is by packaging your deals or your services inside of one another. There is a reason why we only offer mowing and weed control services. We do not offer just mowing services to all of our customers because we got rid of those people. We either upsold them into other stuff mulch week, to property cleanups, et cetera, or we said, hey, if you don't want any of those other services, I'm sorry, but you're not the best customer for us.
