Short dialogue (YouTube video) arguing for removing middle management and concentrating operational and financial control in a single general manager. The speakers recommend a single profit-and-loss (P&L) for the company (or umbrella), consolidating departmental roles (e.g., estimator as general manager) to reduce waste, increase accountability, and eliminate redundant sales/estimator roles.
The manager needs to be, in my opinion, in most of control. I feel like it's just such an efficient model. You're removing middle management. Middle management is just a drag on almost all companies.
If you do one umbrella, one company, there's one P&L. Now you could break it up into departments, you can do that. But like it all is one profit and loss statement. If the weed control department is being inefficient or buying the wrong products or buying too much product, it sits in the storage unit for six months not being used to make money. That does affect the these other departments because it's 1P and L. And so when you completely segregate them, like you said, it gives the general manager that full ownership of the P and L and those decisions.
I'm sure in your location the general manager is going to be the estimator.
Yes.
Yeah. So it's so efficient you don't have to have a separate estimator, a separate salesperson. You just have one person at the top that has takes full accountability. You cut out all the waste and all the crap.
