Well, hello, lovely humans, and welcome to Engage, a wedding planning podcast for the modern day couple. I'm your host, Jamie Wolfer, and I truly believe that wedding planning does not need to be complicated or time consuming. I kind of picture these episodes like jumping on a quick phone call with your wedding planner. You get your answers and you go on your merry way. Because sometimes not all of us have an hour to dedicate to listening to super long podcasts or super long intros. So without further ado, let's just jump right on into it. Today's episode is actually a audio recording of one of my most popular YouTube videos. I don't know about you, but sometimes I just need to sit down and be able to process through the audio without the distraction of a video. So we decided to take this sweet little nugget and turn it into a podcast for you. I hope you find this helpful, my friends. Is it just me, or does everyone around you kind of lose their minds a little bit when you start planning a wedding? The dry weddings versus open bar weddings discourse has given me the most diabolical idea ever. At my wedding, I'm gonna send out invitations telling everyone, hey, guys, it's a dry wedding. No, no alcohol at this wedding. And then that'll show me who really wants to be at my wedding. And then when all the people who are like, no, we're not gonna go, or the people's like, no worries, we'll be there. Then at the reception, it's gonna be an open bar, and I'm gonna reward all of the people who weren't just boring, bad friends underdeveloped. And bad people underdeveloped with an open bar. Because you know what? You were a real one. You said, I don't need alcohol to have a good time. And then here you go. I'm gonna get this to you. So. Ha. Underdeveloped. Underdeveloped. Bad people. Listen, if you love me, you're gonna show up to my wedding whether there's booze or not. But guess what? Surprise. That was a test. Y' all passed. The underdeveloped ones, not so much. They're at home, missing out and all this booze. I told them wouldn't be here. I gotta admit, that is a little bit. That's a little bit diabolical. But I kind of love what we're working with here because there's a lot of people that have really strong weddings about dry weddings or weddings that have alcohol. We've covered it multiple times here on this channel, but the interweb seem to still be very much divided on this issue. Where do you land? I'm in camp. I don't care. Like, I will absolutely go to a dry wedding, but I will also enjoy a lovely glass of pinot grigio or sauvignon blanc or two at your event, should you choose to have alcohol present. For a lot of couples, it feels like the audacity of those guests that feel like they are entitled to have alcohol. And if they don't have alcohol, then they're not going to show up. Yeah, I probably wouldn't want those people at my event either. Am I actually liking this idea? Maybe changing my mind before your very eyes? But apparently, it's not just guests that have audacity. No. Do you want. So focus on the dress, and the video will get to a second. Okay. You can always do your content after. No, this is very low back. I remember what we're all saying, too. To be honest, I. I really like this. So as much as you like slits and I like splits on you, I feel like you're. Where are you wearing a reception dress? I don't know if I'm gonna do that yet or. No, you bring rehearsal dinner dress. I haven't decided if I'm gonna just do comfy to dance around. No rehearsals. You're doing reh dinner dress. Oh, yeah. Day prior. Put a slit in that. Yeah, give up the slit thing. I mean, we can get you a slip. It's a lot of a line. You want something hugging your body? Yeah, I want it, like, almost. Did you hear the way she said content playback one more time? So focus on the dress, and the video will get to a second. Okay. You can always do your content after. Content. You can always do your content after. I would. Every fiber in my being would just want to walk out of that bridal shop immediately. And then, like, the sassy hands. What was that about? I'm sorry. Do you have better places to be other than their place of employment? Because I didn't hire you. So if you don't want to be here, that's okay. You can go. But I literally just put it on and just, like, turned the camera a little bit. And you're rushing me to respond to a question. Are you gonna have a reception dress? You can have a reception dress. I don't know if I might do something comfortable and then turns out she just used the wrong word. She meant rehearsal dinner. I meant rehearsal dinner. Now answer it quickly. You should have known that. You should have known I meant rehearsal dinner. When I said reception dress because. Because they both start with Rs. So I. I just. I feel like some people shouldn't be in customer service, and some people specifically should not be in the wedding space. I'm infamous for saying this, but your wedding isn't the best day of your lives. It's one of the best days of your life. But you are spending a lot of money on this event. You're spending a lot of money on this dress. You may or may not get alterations out of this location. So I feel, like, a modicum of respect, you know, a kinder tone, less flailing of hands, you know, those kinds of things. I feel. I feel like that should be, like, just a bare minimum. What would you have done in a scenario like this? I would have wanted to walk out, but I probably would have stayed there and just been like, oh, okay, and finished the appointment and then went and ranted about it later, just because that's my personality. That's who I am. You know, Some people would have been like, oh, I'm sorry, what did you just say? I will have a slit if I want to have a slit. I'm not gonna give up the slit thing. Thank you so much. Is there someone else we could speak to? Someone else we could be working with? Like, literally anybody. Anybody but you? Oh, you own the place. Okay, well, you gotta. You got a review coming your way. How many stars? Oh, you'll find out. It's gonna be a treat for everybody. Sitting here listening to a podcast is all fine and dandy, right? But sometimes you need an actual person to be asking some of these questions to, and you may be sitting there going, you know what, Jamie? Actually, yeah, that. That makes a lot of sense. I would love to be able to ask you, guess what? You need to join the master plan. You've heard me talk about it, but do you know why I love it so much? You get over 10 lessons that walk you through planning your wedding with videos and spreadsheets and other detailed resources along the way. Join me and my virtual clients over in the master plan and get all your wedding planning questions answered. Literally thousands of couples have gone on this journey with me, and I'd love for you to be next. Check it out@wolferandco.com tmp that's wolferandco.com tmp Listen, wedding budgets suck. They're just, like, the actual worst. And the hardest part for me is that weddings are not cookie cutter. They're not one size fits all. And I think it's important to make sure that you're budgeting according to your priorities. Build a budget that works with your vision and you'll be on the path to planning a wedding that you really want. So if you want my recommendations for making your perfect budget for you and your partner, head on over to weddingpriorities.com okay? It's important to have boundaries. Even with your vendors. You deserve to be treated respectfully. You deserve to enjoy your experience. And there's quite a few vendors that are going to be in your face on your wedding day because they have to be there, right? It's your photographer, it's your wedding planner or coordinator, it's your videographer. Most likely you're barely to see your florist on the wedding day, but you do have a lot of time that you're going to be spending with these people. So you have to make sure that you actually like that, that you trust in their work, that you believe they're going to put forth their best effort on your wedding day. And you should get those vibes in the very first meeting. I have a whole list of vendor Q and A's if you are interested. I'll link it right up here. It's in the master plan. It tells you all the questions that you need to ask from each and every single vendor and the answers you should be looking for to make sure you're not in a situation like this. Although, to be fair, in the alterations category, I don't have Are you sassy? And do you have strong opinions about dresses with slits? Maybe I should add that on there, you know, just for future reference. This is why it's important to figure out who your vendor is, what's their style, before you purchase with them, before you sign a contract, etc. Because the last thing I want is this bride going back to this location if she does choose a dress from there, and getting the same level of attitude from the sales rep over and over and over again. Because that's honestly going to make for a miserable experience if you have a catering manager who's talking down to you. If you have a photographer who the sound of their voice annoys the living tar out of you. Because in my opinion, if you're doing this for the first time, you're not supposed to know what you're doing. This is all brand new. You're being thrown into an entire industry you know next to nothing about, unless you've already worked in it, which most of you probably haven't. So getting vendors that not only make you feel good about yourself but empower you with decision making skills to make sure you're making the right choices for your wedding day is, in my opinion, of the utmost importance. If you want to have a stress free planning experience, which, by the way, you should jump on down there and subscribe. My name is Jamie Wolfer. I'm your online wedding planner, here to help you plan. Easy. It's stress less. Boundaries are important people. It's our favorite B word around here. Other than bride. Bride than boundaries. There's still people on that list that could remove themselves by next year, so. Yeah. Yeah. Depends on how they behave. We're still in the audition. We love a guest list boundary. If you're gonna act unhinged, you don't get to go. This one's short and sweet. Just remember that people can uninvite themselves to your wedding based on their behavior and based on your boundaries. It's not you that's making the choice, it's them. Oh, that got deep. You're engaged. Congratulations. Let me see the ring. Ah, thank you. Here we go. Oh, my God. Yeah, I'm very lucky. It's huge. Thank you. How much did this cost? That's. That's definitely. It's very pretty. I'm glad you like it. That's really nice. I need to get it cleaned. There's like lotion and whatever. Oh, like it doesn't sparkle enough. I think it's. I think it sparkles. Okay. I. Okay. People say the most unhinged things when you were. When you're engaged, when you're planning your wedding. I will never forget when I got engaged. I selected my ring before we got engaged because we knew, we knew we were heading this direction. And honestly, my husband would not want to be released into the world of engagement rings and just go out and pick one. I literally sent him a link. I was like, here you go, here's my size. I will be shocked, I promise. But to be honest, he actually did get me. I didn't know what size ring he was going to get me. Like, what size carrot on the stone. I got a moissanite ring. We got it from a company called Rosado's Box. Shout out to you guys. Love you so much. Love your designs. And I will never forget when I went into work the next day or the next business day after getting engaged, and I had this boss at the time and I couldn't. I couldn't stand him. And he started making all the comments. Wow, look at that. It's like a planet on your finger. How much was that. What are you doing working here? Looks like you don't need the money anymore. And I'm. And of course, you better get that thing insured in case it gets stolen. To which I laughed off the way that all of us do when we're at a job where we can't really stand our boss. Thank you so much. Mm. I won't be working here for much longer, but joke's on me because I lost that ring and it indeed was not insured. We were gardening and it fell out of my pocket. We were planting an orchard of trees that didn't live, by the way. They all died, so just insult to injury. Couldn't find it. Got a metal detector out, started scanning the ground. My husband went all over the place. We have about two and a quarter acres and we couldn't find it anywhere. And then, as you know, I start working with Briteco, which, by the way, they're sponsoring today's video. And I'm in an interview with a CEO and founder and he's telling me about their jewelry insurance. He's third generation jeweler that really didn't like how jewelry insurance worked and decided to start his own company. And as we're chatting, of course he tells me all of the various things that their jewelry insurance covers. Theft, damage, loss, and mysterious disappearance. Now, back in the day, I didn't even think I could insure a moissanite ring. And I shared that with him. I said, I, you know, I didn't. I just guess I didn't think I could with mine. And he was like, oh, yeah, yours would have been so inexpensive to cover. Thanks, man. Really wish I would have known that couple years ago before I lost it to the abyss of Texas clay, never to be found again. So if you have a ring on your finger, you should probably check out Briteco. This one's even more fake than the last one because apparently I can't be trusted. But if you are engaged and you don't have insurance on your engagement ring, highly recommend. Check out Britco right here. We would all love to think that we're always gonna take 100% perfect care of our rings. Always and forever. Let me be the poster child for saying that's not true. It's not true. You could lose it to a peach tree. But unfortunately, insurance doesn't cover idiotic commentary. So if you too have a planet on your finger and a boss who likes to say things they shouldn't, then congratulations on your engagement. You should probably ensure that rock. But of course, the Audacity of humans doesn't stop simply because your wedding day started. Abe. Abe. Tell everyone to shut up. Just. Abe. No. Hey, hey. Stand up here. Don't say anything. Everybody will shut up. Just go. Then don't do anything. Do it again. Do it again. Do it again. Do it one more time. Louder. Are you guys ready for this? Yeah. Someone's shut up. Right up close to your mouth. Don't shut up. Closer. Yeah, closer. There you go. Like that. Yes. No, no. Actually, yes. You should indeed hold the microphone close to your mouth. Let's deal with that little thing situation first. Get rid of the vlog camera. Pretend this is Mike. Because I can't move this one. It's too sensitive. The cord will fall out. You want. When you are giving a toast, okay, Not. Not like this, okay? We think rock star, not ice cream cone. Okay? We want to talk into it like this. You want to hold it with command, arm out. Don't do any of this stuff because then the DJ is going to be fiddling around trying to get your sound. And definitely don't do this. Please and thank you. If you are Italian, maybe consider going with a lav, a lapel mic, or a mic stand so you can flap to your heart's content or per cultural requirements. But yes, indeed, when you are giving a toast, it should be. It should be here. Okay? Not here, not here. Here's the issue with this particular situation. I don't know if they have a dj. The DJ probably should have said something. Ladies and gentlemen, we are going to be beginning our toasts with the. What's his name? Abe. Abe. I was paying attention, sort of. And we're kicking off the toes with our best man, Abe. Everybody, eyes to the front. Bunny ears. Thank you. Of course, if you are in a situation like this and you do want to get people's attention, you could do more than just. Or shut up. Which if my kids heard me say that. We're not supposed to say shut up. We say our house. Shut up is a bad word. So mommy just cursed a little. Sorry, children. And last but most certainly not least, the audacity. I'mma explain a little bit beforehand because it's. It's got music in the background, so I'm gonna have to play my own over it. I thought it was gonna be a copyright strike, which is super dumb, but whatever. Come on, YouTube, get with it. I'm not trying to make money off of this song. One of the best friends of the groom kept messing with the bride. And so she, she, she, she did that. Diabolical. He's at a table by himself. This is. This is the level of petty that I subscribe to. Listen, you were rude and a punk the entire time, so you go sit by yourself. So listen, at least he was a really good sport about it. And he knew. He knew what he did the second he saw his name all by himself. Plus, everyone else was just first name. His was the whole name. It's like, you know when your mom uses your middle name, you know you're in trouble and you're like, oh, no, I got multiple named. She got me. Well, Chris Campbell, I hope you learned your lesson. Whatever that was, I want to know what he did. Kind of. Is that bad? Just want to know what. What the issue was. Any hoodles? If you need to set boundaries with the people around you, you probably do. Actually, that's what makes wedding planning more difficult, is people kind of crossing over boundaries. This is an excellent example of you crossed a boundary, you messed around and you found out. Chris Campbell. The fact that I know the whole name, it's just so much better. Better than Abe. I mean, Abe was great, don't get me wrong. But Abe also refused to hold the microphone properly. So that's what we have for today's video. Guys, thank you so much for watching.
