Hello, lovely humans! Welcome back to my channel.
It has been—
it's been a hot minute, and by hot minute I mean several months since I picked up this camera. We got a lot of ground to cover, and I figured what better way to like drop ourselves back into Contentville than doing a little repotting moment, okay? Because I picked up— picked up— I didn't fully organize or fully clean up my greenhouse. Yeah, I don't want to talk about it, okay? It's like a war my children have with my husband, and they thought they'd Whatever. Yeah, I don't want— I don't want to talk about it. I hate that thing. My kids, my daughters have a— my kids have a war with my husband hiding it places, and someone thought it'd be funny to put it in my greenhouse. Okay, okay. If it ends up in the trash, oh no, so sad. So today we are doing a little Q&A repot with me video because we can. All right, are we good here? Okay, I'm gonna go back on the other side so we're just like not not as close. Like, I know we're close, but like not this close. Okay, first and foremost— okay, first and foremost, we are going to be repotting two of my China doll plants. Um, I can't tell if they have spider mites or not. Like, I think that one does, so I already treated it. Um, this one I just forgot to water, and so it lost all its leaves. But these have been pretty heavily root bound for a while, so we got that to take care of. I also have a Pink Princess that I got from a grocery store that is in the worst like coco coir substrate of all time. I've got, I've got my Ficus Audrey that again, um, somewhere in the pregnancy/postpartum moments, uh, we forgot to water as well, so she lost a lot of leaves but has a giant root coming up, coming out of the base, so she needs an upplant. And last but most certainly not least, this ZZ plant that is finally pushing out. Some new stems here, which is very exciting. But it's also been battling scale for a while. So, you know, just, um, if you want to know what kind of plant caretaker I am, there you go. There you go. Look how dead the base of this is. It's— this probably needed to be repotted like years ago. I'm almost embarrassed to unpot this. Almost. But I'm still gonna do it. We're still gonna film it. Okay?
Okay.
Unfortunately, I'm completely out of like aesthetic pots to uppot these into, so they're going in growers pots, okay? Because that's all we have, and honestly that was hindering me from like doing any sort of repotting for a while, and then I just thought, just put them in the growers pots and I'll stick them in a basket later, it's not that big of a deal, you know? Because Lord knows I have plenty of baskets and also don't mind an excuse to buy more. Oh, I knew this was going to suck. I knew it. I knew it. Also, I picked up a really, really sticky day outside. Anyways. Watch me break this plant and like not— okay, okay, how am I going to Okay, busting out the big guns, okay? If you don't have a hori hori knife, you should get one. They are literally the best. They have a serrated blade on one side, um, and then a smooth blade on the other, so this is good for like cutting through roots and stuff. Um, not me using the makeup influencer hand to show you this, And then it has a little ruler on the other side so you can see how far deep— how deep down you've dug. One of the most popular questions was, how was the birth? The birth was great. I mean, she came out, so like usually that's like a— that's like the best, the best ending. I will probably do like an entire birth story vlog. It was my first day labor, which was really interesting. So I was kind of like gaslighting myself, being like, this is an actual labor. Like, no, you only labor at night, so this isn't— this is not real. So we'll have a whole video on that. She was my chunkiest baby yet, coming in at 9.5 pounds with a 14-inch head. To which the midwife said, "Yeah, that makes sense." I am not kidding. Okay, I just loosened up the sides of this. Hopefully that'll—
come on.
I just— I knew I was pushing it with this one. I did. I knew. Okay, but sometimes I feel like your mental health is directly reflected by how your plants are doing. And some of mine aren't doing great. Okay, some of mine aren't doing great. Honestly, I've kind of been going through it work-wise. Um, with some business changes. Well, some business changes I thought were gonna happen and then everything came to a standstill. Okay, so we're gonna repot this later. No, we're not.
Okay.
Yes! Oh! Kay, here's what we're gonna do, kay? We're all gonna feel better about being plant owners after seeing this. Kay? Look at the roots on this thing, you guys! I knew, I knew it. I knew it, okay? I did. I did. But hey, it's pushing out new growth, so it can't be— there's literally no soil left.
Okay, okay, okay, okay.
So glad we started on this now because I just feel like, I feel like it can only go up from here. Only because this is the oldest plant that we're working with today, so like there's no chance anything else is gonna be this root bound. Oh my gosh, I can't even get these apart. So So lots of how was labor, how was birth. It was great. I mean, it's still birth, you know, so like parts of it were not great, but we'll get to that later. Yeah, I'm gonna go for the 2-gallon on this bad boy because that is gnarly. Someone asked if the girls are thinking about college yet. They are sophomores in high school, but they are about to be finished with— I can't believe I left my ring on. I can't do that. That grosses me out. It just gets so dirty. Um, with the Good and the Beautiful curriculum, they are done with the language arts program this year, which means they will be completely done with language arts for high school at the end of this year, which is a wild thing to say. They do still have— they're doing geometry this year, and next year they have Algebra 2. I don't remember. I don't remember. Okay, I don't know. So This probably will not come as like a huge shock to any of you, but we're not huge, um, you have to go to college people, okay? I literally am 2 classes away from completing my degree from when the girls were toddlers, okay? The only thing I have left to do is literally a science with a lab and econ, and I just, I just haven't done it. I just haven't done it, uh, because then I became a wedding planner and it was fantastic and I loved it so much and here we are. I do want to go back and do it again someday because I absolutely love higher education. That is way too— that's too much soil. Hold on. Like, I love it. I love going to college. I thought it was fascinating. I loved every moment of it. And also Elias did some college, also did not complete his degree, and both of us have very fulfilling careers. That we enjoy immensely that don't require a degree. So they are very likely going to be taking classes at our local community college next year just to kind of explore options and see, see what's out there, see what they might be interested in. But we are by no means pushing them to make any sort of decision anytime soon, and we are not pushing them to get out of the house. I think our current thought process is that we will do like a if you're working, we'll charge you rent, if you're going to school full-time, we won't idea. But that's— we've told the girls it's kind of a work in progress. We haven't quite decided what we want to do with that yet, but that's kind of where our brains are at. Um, just so they know kind of what they're getting into, just so they know. And I also think as parents, so many times we feel like we have to make a decision and then we can't change our minds. Well, we said we'd do this, or this would be the plan, or that's, that's the option that we thought would be best. But I think a lot of times as you parent and as you go, you want to change your mind. You realize that your previous idea is probably not gonna work with this kid, or that concept that you thought was gonna be a really good plan ends up not working out at all. So I think holding it loosely and telling them, "Here's what we're currently thinking," that by keeping things kind of like not set in stone, it gives us the opportunity to invite them into this, the discussion, a little bit, not too much because obviously we're still the parents, and gives us the opportunity to say, "Hey, we changed our mind." Okay, so this is looking super good. Tons of fresh soil in there. There is already like a— some— there's worm compost already mixed into this soil. It is dry as a bone though, so I'm gonna have to heavily, heavily water those in a minute. But we got one down. So many to go. Why did I pick today to do this? Okay, long time follower, very sweet friend says, how are you doing? I'm doing Okay, I'm doing okay. I understand that that doesn't sound like the most jovial response. Hear me out. Postpartum is extremely difficult for me because I like to get stuff done. I love being a productive person. Postpartum does not allow me that luxury. I recently did something called— sorry, the soil is so dry. I recently discovered my Human Design personality. Hold on, let's take a, let's take a moment for this. All right, not as bad as I thought it was going to be. Yeah, not as bad. Still need to pot it up, but not as bad. So I recently found out about something called Human Design, which is gonna sound kind of woo-woo, okay? Take it with a grain of salt, right? But basically it's kind of what, like, what your personality is based on the day, the time, and the location that you were born. Does this sound kind of woo-woo? Why do I always do that? I add too much dirt at the base of this and then and then my plate's too high. I get— I just get so excited. And at first I was really hesitant to even like look into it because I wasn't sure how it— how it aligned with biblical principles. And then a very sweet, very wise believer friend of mine was like, if you look at it and it feels like it mirrors your personality or helps you to understand who you already are better, Is that maybe not a part of God's design? So I still hold it pretty loosely because I don't know much about it and I'd like to learn a little bit more. But I am something called a generator, and a generator likes to get stuff done. So to be an Enneagram 3 and a generator means I like to create, I like to produce, I like to see an end product. I love a checklist. When it's all checked off, nothing It almost nothing hits quite like the high of a completed checklist. I will die on that hill. Okay. Oh, she's gonna be so cute, but like in a basket like this. Yeah, okay, so I don't, I don't love the pot, but we're doing what we can with what we have. So for a long time So for a long time in my business, I didn't listen to my gut. I also think that your gut is God-given. You aren't just making decisions based on some like bizarre subconscious stream of thought. You are making it based off of the brain that he gave you and the knowledge that you've cultivated after being in his word, seeking wise counsel, etc. Anyways, so for a long season, at my job. I was not listening to my gut. I was listening to other people. I was allowing them to have input. I was allowing them to kind of take over. And now we are in a transitional period that I'm hoping will allow for a lot more space to breathe, a lot more room for creativity, um, and a lot more room to like embrace the talents and the skills and the desires that God has given me. What does that look like here? What does that look like long term? That looks like me probably hiring an editor for this channel because I've always edited this myself. It's because honestly, like, these videos are so much more personal, um, than any of my wedding planning videos are because that is me, my profession, me talking about what I know. This is just me. So it's always felt a little bit more personal, but— so it's always felt a lot more personal because it is. But the issue I keep running into is the time that it takes to edit. So I think I'm going to go ahead and make the financial investment and bring on an editor for my personal channel. And I think I think it's gonna make a really big difference so then I could just create. I can just do. I can just have days like today where the, the girls are watching Aurora for me, Amelia's taking a nap, Silas is working on his homework, and I can just come out here and replant plants. Because so many times I'm like, well, I can't do that because I have to go work. Well, I can't do that because I've got this to do. Where this can be my work if I just set up my structure a little bit differently. So to answer that question in a very, very long drawn-out manner, I'm doing okay. I'm doing better than I was a year ago, that's for darn certain. I am trying to find ways to feel and be productive. This substrate is— it's literally all coir. It's a full-on— it's a plug. And there's barely like any roots coming out of it. No wonder this little thing's doing horribly. So plot twist, I'm actually gonna pot this down because I don't think that this should be in a 4-inch pot, or at least not that size pot that it was in. So I'm gonna— I'm gonna definitely go downsize on this one and see if we can get her to bounce back, because that is— that's it. That's her whole root system. Okay, this sweet question: Do you feel like your family is complete? Do you want more children? Are you not sure? I am— I do not want to be pregnant again. We'll talk about it more in the, the, the birth video, but this pregnancy This one was—
hold on, hair clip.
This one was— it's not easy.
Okay.
All right, hair's going up. I can't— nope, hold on. Y'all, this one was not Okay. Oh, do you hear that barking? That's the neighbor that called the cops on us because our dog was barking too much. Because their 4 dogs are super quiet. This pregnancy was awful. It was awful. I not only did I have my contraction thing, which was a little bit better than it has been in previous pregnancies, but I also developed something called SPD. Something that— something that basically feels like a condition that basically was like I couldn't move my legs apart. I had these mermaid legs everywhere I went. Like, so sitting up, walking, separating my legs in any capacity would cause intense pain. It honestly now feels a little bit like a fever dream because it was so obscenely painful and it was so like just debilitating. I couldn't bend down to pick stuff up off the ground. In fact, we hired a house cleaner because I couldn't pick up the house. I had several mentee bees this pregnancy because it was just so physically taxing. And now that you know that I'm— and now that you know and I know that I'm a generator, I basically felt like a failure during this season because I couldn't generate anything. I couldn't build anything. I couldn't create anything. I was not satisfied with what I could just be doing sitting on my laptop, especially because I feel so like stifled in a work capacity. Um, jeepers. Especially because I feel so stifled in a work capacity that it just was almost a very depressive season. Not that that would be the case emotionally if I did have another baby, but physically I don't want to do that again. We have always entertained the idea of adopting though, and especially since we have 4 girls and 1 boy, we definitely have entertained the idea of adopting a little boy because I think that that would be—
oh.
Oh no, I got dirt all over my bug cup! I love that thing. Bad news, my camera cut off and I don't know when. Good news is we're still repotting, so since I haven't found an editor yet, editing Jamie's gonna love that. Gonna love that. Okay, wait, this— what? Nope, I was walking over to show you this. This is Ficus Audrey. She definitely— I'm hoping this repot and maybe putting her— right now she's in a north-facing window— um, will get her a little bit more rejuvenated. So repot and relocating the window location— relocating the location, yeah, um, will give her a chance to just super, super thrive. Okay, let's check the roots. But this big old monster of a root down here, goodness gracious. Yeah, she's basically been needing a repot since I purchased her. Oh, all right. Well, it's not as bad as I thought it was gonna be. It's just that one mega root down below. Okay. So actually, I'm only gonna pot her up into the pot that I've been using as a decorative one as like her permanent location. Anyways, back to the Q's and the A's. Where do you get clothing for babies? Thrifted. There is the most adorable clothing store here in town, or like down in town, um, called Cottontail Jones. So cute. And it went from being like a shop, um, and it went from, uh, and they used to sell used, and they used to sell, um, new and used clothing, but now they've gone to all used. And it is the best full consignment super cute. I feel like the owners of the shop do really good at curating the collections that they have there. They used to carry a lot of organic and a lot of clean fabrics, and now that I think they really are intentional about sourcing those as well. So that's where we get a lot of the baby stuff. The girls are hardcore thrifters. In fact, I've had to cut them off from thrifting for a while because they have so many clothes. I don't know where they got that from. And Silas will do a mix of Cottontail Jones if they have any, but now he's like He's 9 now. He just turned 9 a couple weeks ago, which is wild. So they don't have many of his size there. So we'll do basically Walmart, Goodwill, and Cottontail Jones for him. But he just keeps stretching, so our biggest issue for him is just pants that fit his smaller waist and his long legs. I love shopping consignment and secondhand when I can, especially if I can find— especially because then all the clothing is off-gas, which is great. So they don't have the VOCs that you you first get when you buy them from the store, or like buy them brand new. And it all for some reason looks like this, this like muslin-y fabric, which is cute, it has its moments, right? But also I feel like it's a little bit annoying. It's a little bit annoying because everything I own is now looking like this fabric. And that's not what I want. Look how cute this is! I don't know why I got so squeaky. Okay, you go here. "I have no question, I literally don't care what you post, I'm so here for it." I love you so much. This one says, "Still crunchy with a side of Chick-fil-A?" Yes! Still crunchy with a side of not Chick-fil-A though. You guys want to hear the worst? The worst? Also, everything's already repotted but I still want to keep chatting so we're gonna go get all of my atoleated plants from inside and bring those out and trim them, I think. Do we do this inside? Maybe we do this inside and then I'll come back out and water these to finish up the vlog with you. Out here. Now that I've made like just a cutie little mess. Also, this is a feed bin from Tractor Supply, like to mix feed in, and this is the best for just pour— I just poured a bunch of soil in there to mix around kind of all the leftover bits that I have from other soil bags. This is— it's brilliant. Brilliant. Love it. But I also brought it out so I could pot over it and then— and or to pot over this and then I forgot and I just pot— just pot it straight on the table. Just pouncing straight on people. Because I've cleaned— because we've cleaned up our diets so much, which is great, fantastic, love that for us, okay? Hello, we are so I Am Health and Wellness, okay? I also took 3 walks last week. Just getting that baby weight off, you know? 3 whole walks. Don't know if you caught that, that was 3. Bunny, go.
Go.
Um, but I'm now at the point where MSG gives me a raging headache. Ranging headache, and every sandwich or every chicken there at Chick-fil-A has MSG in it. So I can no longer eat that. In fact, I had some sort of like— what was it? Oh, oh, oh, those Fruit Riot frozen grapes. I'm kind of considering doing keto, which like we can talk about later. And by kind of considering, I mean totally considering it, but I don't want to go too hard on keto right now because then I'll have the toxin dump and I don't want to do that while I'm breastfeeding. Okay, wait, I'm just gonna finish this thought while we're out here. So I broke keto, my, you know, lazy keto, the other day and had some of these Fruit Riot grapes because they're supposed to be like sour candy coated. One thing about me is I get down for some sour candy. Not that often, and honestly, I don't have sweets that much anymore, so I can't take too much. But I tried. I had 3 of them, 3 grapes, 3 whole grapes. Turns out there is maltodextrin in it. Raging headache, woke up the middle of the night, couldn't go back to sleep for hours, still had a headache the next day. It got so bad that I took acetaminophen. Your girl doesn't take acetaminophen unless she absolutely has to. So yes, we are definitely still crunchy with a side of fill in the blank, but unfortunately we're now aware and we can tell when like the kids have to— oh, that's cute. This is the best filming angle I've ever, I've ever done. We ordered wood off from someone off Facebook Marketplace and he literally came and just threw it in the corner instead of stacking it like he was supposed to. And then we just left it. Uh-huh. So yeah, crunchy with just no food dyes and no MSG, but definitely, definitely can get down with some takeout once or twice a month, if not more. This idea Sounded like way more charming in my head, but it's really hot out here. Okay. Uh, for decapitation is my Monstera Thai Constellation that I paid an obscene amount of money for years and years and years ago. Um, and she's sad. She's sad. Okay. She lost a leaf during the great freeze of 2022, right? Or is it 2021? I don't recall. I don't recall. Remember the big freeze? Like, not the recent one, but like the big, big one a couple years ago? Like, she got freezer burn on one of her leaves and it fell off. And this— and she— that's probably the best she's ever looked. Okay, this is where— this is where we're at. So I usually get pretty hesitant with like chopping plants like this, but seeing as I found a brand new Thai Constellation at our local, like, at our local, um, greenhouse, Bonnie's Greenhouse, for for a fraction of what I paid for this, I'm gonna— I'm just gonna— okay, we need to— we need to be in this shop together because part of this feels a little bit traumatic. Okay, we're doing it, we're doing it. Ah! It's hurting more than it hurts you, okay? Okay. So I'm also going to— I don't even know if I'm in focus. I'm stressed out. We're just gonna keep rolling. I think I'm gonna cut right here so I can keep this leaf and then these 3 can go off on their own for a new adventure. Okay, and then the plan is we'll put these in water together and then this will live out in the greenhouse and hopefully sprout new situations. Although the— I'll show you in a sec. Okay, did I bring water out? No, sure didn't. Sure did not. Is it going to stay in this glass? No, but I'm having so much fun filming this and I didn't have any of my supplies ready, so I'm just grabbing whatever is the most convenient and not necessarily aesthetically pleasing, cuz this isn't— that's— it's giving this, it's giving this. And I'm thinking this will get a, a little repotting because it's lit— she's, she's hanging on by a thread. Just, just a single root. So I'm not actually gonna put it in a different pot. I'm just gonna bury her— oh, there's roots coming out the bottom.
Great.
Okay, solid root system, but I think I'm just gonna repot it into this same, same exact pot, so then it'll just focus hopefully I'm gonna use one of these. I have them floating around my greenhouse. I've never used one. I'm gonna use it today, right now. Right now it feels good, you know? Full FAFO. But because she's got such a healthy root system, my hope is she'll produce a lot of great growth, especially if I leave her out here in the greenhouse. There's gonna be no leaves to burn in the sun, and I'm already planning on rehabbing some plants out here anyways, so she'll be tended to, she'll be watered. And if I forget, y'all remind me. Okay, okay, so now we just have a little, little— it's a nubbin just hanging out. She'll get a deep watering and then she'll live out here until she's happy as a clam. Am I still potting over the table instead of either one of the plastic vessels that I have out here? Yes, I am. So glad you asked. Thank you for paying attention. This question cracks me up. "Leah, what's your middle name?" I'm not telling you. Okay? 'Cause I know how the internet works. Next you're gonna be like, "Oh, it's a Q&A? What's your social? You know? Just tell me your social." Just kidding. My middle name is Michelle. What are you gonna do with that information? I already live my entire life online. Oh, sorry. Here's another super, super, super atoleated Monstera that I'm gonna hack up. And again, with roots coming up out of the top. Are we picking up on the theme here? Jamie puts plants in the places that don't get enough water and then just hopes for the best and then can't figure out why they all look like absolute crap in 2 years' time. Okay, so this one's getting the same treatment as the Thai except for this has got like a pretty decent set of nodes. So I think I'm actually gonna trim it right here and maybe I try sprouting roots on this in like a greenhouse box like Harley G does. You know what I'm talking about? Can we get an updated house tour? Here's the deal. Goodness gracious. Did that just fall? It did. The first plant fell over when I put it there, so why would the second plant not fall over when I put it there? I do want to do a house tour. I do feel like I have denied my desire to design for a really long time because of things that were going on with work. And now that I'm kind of feel like I'm like finding my footing again, I will probably jump back into design. I already have concepts for the other rooms, but we are currently in a no-spend because we're trying to tighten up our finances because we were getting a little too liberal, just a little too much. And so I think every once in a while, uh, no spend— if you haven't been around, you haven't heard us talk about this— is where we literally try not to spend any money for a whole month. Uh, nothing at all whatsoever. Uh, did we have to cave and buy a lawnmower? Sure did. Do we have to even buy a battery for our new old Suburban? Sure did. But the intent is to practice and train your mind into not wanting to just hit purchase on everything you see on Amazon. So what does this have to do with the house? I have ideas. I don't want to deny my ideas or those ideas anymore, and I really want to pursue them, but we're not doing a house tour until I get a few more updates in some of the bedrooms because I've been dying to do these. I have wanted to own a home my whole life, and now I've owned one for almost 6 years, and millennial gray still covers 85% of the walls in my home, and I find that deplorable because I hate gray. So once I get my booty in gear, maybe we'll do it then. Maybe a little reno series and you guys can just make me feel really, really guilty about it to make sure I keep doing it. How about that? How about that? How about that? Okay, another little nubbin to go with the original other nubbin.
Mm-hmm.
Okay, so the camera died. Um, should I call the cops? And I had a couple more things I had to get done, so I went ahead and filmed all of the etiolated— the rest of the etiolated plants off camera. I had my Rhaphidophora tetrasperma that I had to take care of. I had one super etiolated golden pothos. And now I'm just going to take my super ratty torn up broom head and clean up. One thing I'm trying really hard to do is clean create cleaner spaces because when I have cleaner spaces or less cluttered, I'm more inspired. Oh, here's one of the ones I potted up. It's lived in water for like 4 years so who knows. But today I decided to F.A.F.O. and see how this is gonna go. Okay? Once this baby starts sleeping through the night, it's over. It's over for all y'all. Okay? It's over. Between a housekeeper and an editor, I'm gonna have so much free time. I'm gonna have so much free time. It's gonna be glorious. It's going to be absolutely glorious. And do I realize what a privileged statement that is? Yeah, but we worked really hard to get to this day. And I hope that serves as something that's encouraging for a— Is that a privileged statement? Yeah. Yeah, it is. We worked really hard to get to this day. And I understand that we are privileged to be able to employ people like this. But honestly— but honestly, if I've been doing my business for about— woo! Okay. Yeah, you could have told me this is what my hair looked like. If I've been doing my business for about 10+ years, if I've been doing this business for about, you know, 10+ years, I should probably see just a few perks from it, right? We're a decade into this, so we should probably just see a little bit of fruit from that labor. Pun very much intended. I have to figure this situation out and go get a thumbnail because I forgot, I forgot to get one in the beginning, okay? And I'm beet red. This is why we don't do garden footage, guys, okay? But at least I'll be back there and I can throw a filter on it. Anyways, thank you so much for watching. I miss you guys. I'm so glad to be doing this again, and I'm really, really, really hoping that we can make this a lot more consistent now that I'm just listening to the way the Lord is directing me and the gut that he gave me. I'm I'm hoping I can use that to create a lot more. If you have any questions about that, let me know. I don't know anything about it, but I know enough about My Drive. But I'm just starting to learn a little bit on that journey and I'd be fa— okay, there's a wasp. If you have any questions about that, feel free to ask. I'm not saying I'll have the answers to them, but you can ask them. So that's what we have for today's video, guys. Thank you so much for watching. Here's what I have planned for next. A spring property tour. We've got baby animals, teeny tiny baby goats are just precious, scrumdiddlyumptious. We've got garden. I went with all starts this year, no seeds, which was very exciting and super freeing. Highly recommend postpartum. Highly recommend doing that postpartum. As well as just a few like aesthetic backyard furniture changes. It's not aesthetic, so just bear that in mind. It's just— we made aesthetic changes. Changes to the aesthetic. Anyways, stay tuned for that. Oh, and the birth story coming up pretty soon. If you haven't done so already, jump on down there, like the video if you like the video, and subscribe to this channel. And until next time, bye guys!
