Your "Free" Wedding Might Not Be the Best Idea...

I am a member of a friend group in which one member we'll call her Coral. What a great name is getting married. She said she's been seeing a lot of people on TikTok and Insta showing how to plan free weddings. Weddings where the couple spends $0 aside from the marriage certificate fee, I guess. Don't cling so hard to the free wedding that we lose sight of this event and bringing people together. Okay. That we lose sight of the fact that you were hosting this event for your family and friends. So we want to make sure that the ask is not too big of an ask. Okay. So if in lieu of gifts, you want people to bring meals instead, great. Don't make them do all the brain work of figuring out what meal they should be bringing or what side they should be bringing and where they should be doing the setup. If they're doing a meal, don't have them do any setup or tear down. If they're working on florals, don't have them do other things. I would simply say I would be more than willing to contribute some cookies and some brownies to a dessert table, but I don't feel comfortable taking the entire responsibility of a cake. That's a lot of pressure. It's too much for me.
