And we are back with another episode of the FYM Show with Ty and Yo. That's my man Ty, I'm Yo, and if you don't know this show is about wellness. You know, I think when you think about wellness, you think about how to improve your life, how to improve your career, how to improve your circumstances. And, you know, oftentimes that's what we discuss on this show. And, you know, it's September now, Ty. Um, we're just coming off Labor Day weekend. What are you thinking about? What's on your mind?
The year is gone. Yeah, pum, year is gone.
That's how I felt.
Sorry, 2027.
That's how I felt.
So like 2027, what has been, what has been some of the highlights that you think have been surprising in 2026?
I mean, I have to say the return of Drake is really interesting to me. The return of Drake. I don't know if y'all will remember The last couple of years, but Drake was not on the radio. Drake was not on the charts. Drake had kind of vanished from the zeitgeist. And to see him come back the way he's come back— I was in Virginia in July, and when I was in here a year ago, all I heard on the radio was Leon Thomas, Kendrick Lamar, and GloRilla. That was it. That was the radio. I didn't hear Drake probably— I was in Virginia for 4 days. Every day, my pops loves to play the radio when he's at home. The radio was just shebang. It was Janice, it was Too Hard for the Radio. I'm just saying, it's Drake hour. I saw a radio promoter talking about having Drake fatigue, and then just in my mind I was like, man, yo, y'all having Drake fatigue? I remember Drake was gone. He had vanished. He was—he had disappeared. So this year, to me, I think the return of Drake will always be a bit of a talking point. What about you, Ty?
LeBron to Philly. Ah, I still think that's a dream. LeBron to Philly.
I believe it when I see it. I can't believe it. Where were you at when you got the news? We never discussed this.
I was. I think I was in Ozark, Missouri. I think I was in Ozark, Missouri.
Ty, what were you doing in Ozark?
I had a golf trip.
Okay.
That golf trip, it was a, it was a very, very interesting golf trip because if you don't know or not, you know, in order to get to Ozark, Missouri, if you're coming from Atlanta, Georgia, you take a 2-hour flight to Springfield, Missouri. And then from Springfield, Missouri, you drive about 50 minutes to Ozark, Missouri. Now, okay, if y'all don't know much about Ozark, Missouri, or Branson, Missouri, uh, Springfield, Missouri is where the creator of Bass Pro Shop is from. Can't recall his name right now, but he's worth a lot of money.
Oh, okay.
And so the resort, the resort that we went to is called Big Cedar, and they had 5 different golf courses on this one resort.
Oh, okay.
Tough Hanger, Payne Valley, Ozark Nationals, and I can't remember the other 2. I lost count. But really great family-friendly resort. Me and my cousin planned it about 3 months before, and we went down, played golf back-to-back days, ate good, was good as they had out there. And, um, yeah, that's where I was when I found out LeBron James, King James, was going to the Philadelphia 76ers.
Did it ever cross your mind to buy the bingo card? I was saying, was it on yours? Where were you thinking?
I thought he was gonna go. I thought if he— I'm like, I don't think he's gonna go. I thought he's gonna go to the Spurs, to be honest with you. I wanted him to come to Miami. I wanted him to come to Miami, but, but I was like, then when I thought about it, I was like, LeBron ain't gonna go live in no San Antonio.
But did you see the mixer they had with the, uh, the I guess the social media person had— oh my, I guess he had copied it. Yeah, the video.
Oh, I didn't see the video.
Well, it was like an announcement video announcing LeBron to Miami. Yeah, yeah. So people saw it, they had thought that that was like a preview of what was to come. I don't think they have a job no more. Uh, yeah, yeah, I think they lost their gig, man.
They probably lost their kids. But yeah, so that— I would probably say that was probably the biggest cultural, you know, the biggest cultural like shebang.
Yeah.
No pun intended. But, uh, and man, you know, this year has been a very hard year on the economy. And when you think about what— where the stock markets was and all the things was last year, Man, you thought that it was going to just keep climbing, but this year feels like it was very harsh. Gas prices is up, tickets are up, eggs are up.
Yeah.
All of these day-to-day things are up and it's like the economy, I mean, you're starting to have things that just don't even make sense. From the aspect of it. I mean, obviously we don't know. We might be right in the middle of World War III, you know what I'm saying? Dealing with this new president that's in office right now. And we're headed towards midterms, which means that the president has been in the office for 2 years. So now we have the conversations coming up about voting tampering and the machines and all of these different conversations. For me, man, 2026. We're six years in to this decade. You know, this decade started with COVID A bang!
That was the shebang, right? It started with the true. And so I guess I guess I guess something something I want to flag that I think is really interesting is that I think this decade has been the decade of surprises.
Right. Yeah.
Where like, it feels like everything has kind of been out of whack. Anything that you— the way you thought life was going to be, right? When I think about 2019 going into 2020, there was a version of life that I had foresaw that does not exist at all now, right? So when you talk about LeBron to Philly, if you would have told me that in 2019, that in, you know, under 10 years that LeBron James would be in Philadelphia with a jersey, I'd be like, you are lying.
Get out of here.
You know what I'm saying? Even a second term of, you know, the president in there, I was just like, there's no way he's going back in the house. So I guess it's like, but how do you forecast the future now? Right? How do you think about the way you strategize your businesses and your, you know, your plans when it feels like everything is changing in such a dramatic way?
Well, I think that the best way to strategize your future is to go back to the old-fashioned things, tangible things, human experience things, the things that we grew up on. Because with this explosion of AI, which is another thing that was huge over the last past 12 months, Has been a has been the talk of the time. I mean, talk of the town. You think about Bitcoin, Bitcoin down by 50%. You know what I'm saying? So like you you you the cryptocurrency. It seems like a lot of things are going to be rattled into like back to normal from real estate prices to Bitcoin to you know consumption.
Yeah.
I think a lot of things are going to get back to a reality price. And this whole concept about AI taking people's jobs, I think that's going to come into a real cross path where they're going to have to make decisions. They meaning executives and companies. I mean, you got companies like Oracle that laid off 21,000 people worldwide, but they had Last quarter earnings was like $17 billion, you know. So we're in a very interesting space, and I think it's a capitalistic thing. I don't think small villages in Africa is going through the same things, you know what I'm saying? Like, I think in, in our capitalistic Western society, we're, we're experiencing things that are, you know, not as serious. as we think they are, where people are still working, still having jobs, then there's people that are considered homeless, that the different cities don't have real strategies to solve that problem, which at times it almost feels like they don't want to solve that problem.
Mm-hmm.
And we look up. And it's another year. And so education is higher, food is higher, cars are higher, gas is high, everything is just increasingly high. So I say that it's very difficult to try to celebrate wins when you can look around at your different community and people are struggling to connect the dots.
Yeah.
So I think this episode is really, really, you know, about the, the wellness of the ecosystem of what we grew up in. You know, I've been in this rabbit hole on YouTube about looking for the place that you can retire at for less than $2,000 a month USD.
Oh, okay.
So you got Portugal, You got, um, different places, different places in Ecuador. Uh, you have a few places in Vietnam. You have a few places in the Philippines.
So this is like, this is like housing for under 2 bands?
No, no, no, everything.
Everything?
The whole—
What you mean everything?
Everything.
Like eating?
Eating, everything. They said if you making $2,000 a month in these places, you living the life. You know what I'm saying? You got, okay, you got, uh, different parts of Vietnam, different parts of Thailand, different parts of Indonesia, different parts of Colombia, different parts in Ecuador, different parts in, um, Portugal is another one. Um, it's a place called Georgia. That's a country that, that it's a place in Georgia. Um, but yeah, man, these are like real things where the US dollar translating the currency is different. So like, and these are places where they're looking for, you know, like expats, where you're able to, to like go and get a visa and work and live in these places without no hard time. And, and we're talking about people living really healthy lives at $2,000 a month. Yeah.
Now, Ty, if you— let's say you lived a life where that was realistic for you to decide, like, okay, I'm actually gonna go leave the country and live off this 2 bands a month, right? What would make you make that choice, though? What would it be like the last straw? Would it be just like a financial decision? Would it be a wellness decision? Like, what would be like the leading factor? that would make you say, I'm going to take that plunge?
I think that the leading factor for me would be, do I want to retire and live comfortably for the rest of my life at a young age? Meaning that if I want to retire at 50 years old, if I want to retire— I'm 42, so if I want to retire at 47, you know what I'm saying? I have to look at all the different options. I can't think about nothing but me and my immediate family, meaning that myself, my mom, my brother, my, um, girl, and if there's any kids in the future, right? Right. And I'll be sitting down, I'll be thinking like, man, if $2,000 a month in Ecuador or Portugal, or I wouldn't want to live in Vietnamese Vietnam. I probably would live in the Philippines. But—
Okay.
If, if you can live and have the best private housing, private, uh, affordable healthcare, food that's not as contaminated as the US food, and, and, and you can live a, a really good life at $2,000, listen, bro, I'm outside on the beach, like, like just off investment revenue. Like, just, you know what I'm saying? Like, I ain't even gotta— I, I'm like, what? I'm— that would drive my decision is knowing that I can go there at 47 years old and never have to work another day in my life and can have a really dope spot. Well, listen, boy, I'm outside. I'm gone.
You don't think there'll be any survival guilt?
Survival guilt?
Yeah.
Well, listen, boy, the only thing that'll keep me here, boy, is my mama. If my mama is like, well, you know what? I'm down. If my mama down to come over for at least 6 months out of the year, well, we outside. We got my crib over there in Vietnam. I don't know if I'll go to Vietnam though, but even if I'm going to Africa, like Cape Town was on there. Yeah. Okay, big boy, big boy crib.
Big boy crib. I ain't mad at you. I mean, I guess the way I think about it is it's possible, right? It's so possible. You get out there, it's a beautiful landscape, it's a beautiful home, you got your people with you. But you, you don't think you look at America and be like, man, I, I lift. I don't know. Nah.
I'm gonna tell you this right here, bro. All I really be caring about is trying to reduce how much work I need to be doing, bro. That's it. That's all I be caring about. But I like, I don't wanna do a lot of work, dog. Like, you gotta realize as you get older, like that body— I'm finna go work out for the first time. I'm finna go outside and do like drills, like workout drills to try to expedite getting more in cardiovascular shape. Right, man. Bro, I don't— like, I'm convinced that I'm not trying to be a lifer in the music.
You're not a lifer?
I'm not alive, bro. I'm only a lifer for life. Like, that's it. That's it. Like, I want to be able to wake up places where it's tropical weather year-round. Yeah. And have some really good mentorship going on, some philanthropy, all those different things. But bro, if I can spend 6 months out of the US living on a budget that's very, very realistic, yeah, that is like, that's the, that's the driving force of like, man, what, in 5 years I'm getting all my debt done, all everything's getting cleaned up by 5 years. I don't got, I don't have no debt, and any revenue that's coming in Bro, I'm going over to— I'm going over to like somewhere where it's safe. I'm not mad at Cape Town and Portugal. It's probably like my 2 top, top 2, top 1, boy. Like, boy, listen, I'm like— I'm so deep into that on YouTube, they're just sending me recommendations now. I just get recommended videos of like affordable places for Black retired people to go to.
I think realistic time, most people would dream about that though, right? That's like a dream. That's like, that's, that's the new American dream, getting up out the workforce in your 50s, not having to spend all your money, and, and living a very easy life. Like the, you know, the soft life. Yeah. As they like to call it these days.
Let me tell you, bro, the truth of the matter is this. I was telling this, I was bringing this down to my cousin because his sister She um, she got disability or whatever. Her disability, you know, probably she probably make about thirteen hundred dollars a month. And I told him, I said, "Man, listen, if I'm her, I'm taking that thirteen hundred. I'm still young, bro. I'm going to Colombia. Probably won't go to Colombia, but it's Colombia's a but I'm in the Philippines. Why? I'm in the Philippines. I mean, I'll tell my my brother. Hey, my brother, I need you to. I need to use your address." For my disability check to make sure that they still got me a local. I'm finna go over here to—I'm finna go over here and live my life. Not have to worry about nothing else ever again.
Yeah, it ain't go as far in the U.S.
Four million over there, bro. That's how much it is in in Philippine Philippine currency. Currency? Four million. Yeah. Yeah, get you good housing for $400 a month, man.
What?
Yeah.
What? See, I guess the thing is you just don't really think that you can just take your money and go, man.
Listen, you gotta— sometimes you gotta renounce. Sometimes you gotta renounce your, um, your citizenship, you know what I'm saying? Yeah, you gotta renounce your citizenship. But man, listen, start doing that. Let's start doing that. Hey, let's start doing that math, yo. I ain't gonna lie to you, boy, that math— you start looking around like, boy, I got some good Starlink. Get some link, but I can drop this podcast wherever, you know what I'm saying?
I mean, it, it's crossed my mind again. I think I just have a— I'm an attached American. I know I am. I gotta detach.
Now the money start coming in, you might be like, wait a minute, hold on, I, I can go where? Because I'm, I think I'm gonna do an experiment where I'm gonna go somewhere in December. I ain't figure out where it was. I'm gonna go in December and just live as a local. And kind of like, see, I already been looking up on Verb as a local. I've been looking up on Verb, boy. Hold on, what's that thing?
You're very serious about getting up out of here. Verbo, that's what it called.
Verbo. I was looking at Verbo, bruh. Oh, Crete, uh, Crete, Greece. Oh, Crete, Crete, Greece, bro. I'm looking at the housing over there, man. The housing for the month, man. The cheapest one.
Crete going for the LO.
$936 for 28 days.
What?
Crete's beautiful.
Yeah, nah, nah, I know Crete. I know a thing or two. That's crazy. I didn't know I was going for that though.
Yeah, I'm like, I'm looking at Crete like, what's the— what's the— what's the— this don't turn into a travel channel.
What is it, Crete? I mean, I— we trying to help people understand part of wilderness is knowing where to live. Let's go.
You want to remove yourself from this bull, you know what I'm saying? Hold on, let me see. One of the wettest months with around 7— oh, so this is like— so in Creed during that time, it ain't really that good of a time in Creed, you know what I'm saying? And that— they're saying that— they saying that it's all— it rain a lot, you know what I'm saying?
I don't need no rain. I don't need no rain. But I'm, I'm open to what, what the Lord wants me to be at. Okay, I'm gonna say that. The Lord want me there, that's where I'm gonna be at. Yeah, but I guess my question is, so you just not— you're not attached to America at all?
Bro, I'm attached to life, man. Good life, man. I could be a Christian anywhere in the world. I can— the Holy Spirit gonna be in Thailand too, you know what I'm saying?
You're not wrong, kid. You're not wrong, bro.
I'm looking it up right now, bro. We can talk about it right here on this thing, boy, because this, this is wellness. Like, think about it. Like, if you got, if you got, you know, a nice investment put together, or let's say you work remotely, right? I ain't gonna lie, Vietnam, they ain't saying the budget. $1,500 a month. They said luxury apartment.
A luxury apartment, $1,500.
For $1,500, luxury apartment.
Well, you can't get no luxury apartment in Atlanta for no $1,500, my boy. I can tell you that right now.
But this is not just for the apartment, bro. This is for everything. This is for living. Excellent food, wellness, golf nearby. You know they put the golf in there already for me.
Yeah, yeah, they threw that in there for you. They knew.
Second one was Cape Town. I ain't gonna lie to you, I might go to Cape Town. But see, when I was on Cape Town, all the people be coming over in there, you know what I'm saying? Doing that time frame.
But like, yeah, December. True, true, true.
If you want to mold your life, you might have to go to Cape Town, man. This one might have to go.
I might have to go to Cape Town. Let me ask you this. What makes you want to go stay as a local?
Like, why? You gonna get the local fees. You can't go stay— you can't go to no resort. Resort, they gonna treat you like American. You gotta go—
You wanna be on the ground?
Yeah, on the ground. I'm looking at this thing right now. What is this? This cost too much right here. See, Cape Town a little tricky. Cape Town, you know what I'm saying? Cape Town is like the US, you know. They organized over there. You know what I'm saying? They got a little bit more infrastructure, but it's still like, they still, you know, it's still US dollars is banging over there.
Yeah, it's up. The dollar's up in some places. Yeah. Now, now, but all right, so let me, let me ask you this. When it comes to budgeting, can you trust yourself to stay within that 2-band budget or 3-band budget?
You ain't got no choice. You— when you look at what the cost is, but it's only in this one spot, it costs $75 a day, man. That's USD.
$75 a day, man.
Listen, man, all I'm saying is this: freedom. True freedom is controlling your time. So if you asking me today at 42 years old And you say, hey, in 5 years you can control your time only if you move to another country where the cost of living is lower. And you're my financial advisor and you're sitting down with 47-year-old Ty and you're like, hey, Mr. Bates, listen, you know, you brought up retiring a few amounts of times and I think we should present you these options that we've been getting and that That if you want to retire and not have to work no more in your life, you can go live in these 5 cities.
Mm-hmm.
You don't have to make the decision today, but if you wanted to stop doing everything at 47 years old, and now all you want to do is just focus on your kids if you have any, or focus on your significant other or, or your wife if you're married, and You can literally reduce your cost of living, your overhead, by living and moving into another country that mainly has good weather year-round. You know, they have like a little tornado or some tsunamis— what they call them?
Tsunamis.
Tsunamis. Yeah, not tsunamis, tsunamis, right? You have to think about those things, but All in all, you can you can kind of pretty much live how you want to live for for for for the type of money that you're thinking about. I'm like, ah, I think I think we're gonna be out this thing, man. Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey. Payton is really good, but I ain't gonna lie, they keep throwing up this Vietnamese man, Vietnam man, you know. Vietnam look kind of beautiful, I ain't gonna lie.
I hear it's nice, you know. I hear it's nice. I had a couple friends go over there.
Oh dang, nah.
But I respect what Ty's saying because he's putting the wellness first, you know, that he'll go live in a place he's never been.
Well, listen, bro, this thing here, $56. For the— how many bedrooms? This one bedroom.
Get out of here, bro.
It's right here, right? It's a mile from the beach. $42 a day, bro. Mile from the beach, bro. Mile from the beach apartment.
There's nowhere in the US you can get that, bro.
A mile from the beach and the weather gonna be great. We might have to go test this Vietnam out, ain't gonna lie to you. All right, go check this out.
How long is that flight? Tell me that before we get up out of here. How long is that flight?
The flight? No, flight— that flight is going to be a flight, you know what I'm saying?
You're gonna be in the air for a minute. Yeah, you're gonna be there. You're gonna be in the air, but that's why when you touch down, you're gonna be there for a while, bro.
They got this one spot, boy, it's $652 a month, bro. Half a mile from the beach.
And it's nice on the beach, bro.
I'm looking at it right now, bro.
Listen, this is how you should spend your post-Labor Day weekend. Look up and see the places that you can retire so that way you don't have to be doing the labor until you're in your 80s and your 90s.
If you can generate $30,000 a year, um, without having to go into nobody's office This is the lifestyle you can have, you know what I'm saying? That's all I'm saying. We might have to do another episode about this, I ain't gonna lie to you. I don't think people really know, bro.
We gotta find someone that's doing it. That's my thing. That's our challenge. If you are living the expat life, if you have found a place that you have moved to because the cost of living is so much more significant to your budgeting, yeah, and you are living a fabulous life, please contact me or Ty. We want to have you on the show. We want to ask you some questions. Yeah. And inform our audience about ways that they can stretch their dollars and live a very nice life. Because we only get one life, right, guys? We only get one that we know of, so we might as well live it to the fullest. You don't have to live in the US. You don't have to live in Europe. You can live it in somewhere tropical. Nope. Beautiful. Yeah. And cost-effective.
Listen, man, you know, I'm looking at this thing, man. This thing be looking good every time I look at it, boy.
I'm like, you call it Ty. Well, guys, that, that is another episode of the FIM Show. Ty got drills to run. Yeah, I'm gonna get on my Google searches. I'm gonna find me a nice little spot that can, you know, work on my $30K a year. Yeah, and we will see y'all next time. Oh, leave us a comment, man. Have you already been plotting your escape from America. Let me know where you're going.
Remove yourself from things that don't serve you. And the unit might be the thing that don't serve you.
It could very well be. Absolutely. You do not got to be here. All right, y'all, we'll see y'all next time. It's Ty and Yo, the FIM Show. Peace.
