Do you ever feel like life is too hard and you have too many responsibilities? Well, I'm here to help you reframe the idea of responsibility from something that feels like a burden to something that feels more empowering. Hey guys, Natalie Moore, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist , here, and I'm really excited to talk about this idea of responsibility because I think the word gets a bad rap. When we think about it, we tend to think of things that are a burden, things that we have to do, things that are more societally expected of us or come from an external source of obligation, as opposed to something that we want to do or feel pulled or compelled to do. But like I said, I'm here to change that notion for you. So this morning I was at a Kundalini yoga class, and the instructor was talking about how this word responsible, if you actually break it down, it's response and able, or for responsibility, response and ability. So the ability to respond in any given situation. And I love this reframe because first off, it's empowering. It's focusing on what we're capable of doing and what we can do. And secondly, the idea of responding takes so much pressure off because it's not like we have all these obligations that we need to attend to right now. It's What's happening in the present moment? What do I need to just respond to right now? It's kind of this call and response, a give and take. There's more flow to it. So I was just talking to a client about this today who said that he feels like he just wants to be a kid and doesn't want to have adult responsibilities. And I helped him reframe this idea as it's not so much that these are things that you have to do, it's these are things that you get to do, right? We get to go to work and make money. We get to have social events with our friends. We get to volunteer. We get to exercise and move our bodies. Not everybody can do these things. And so I hope that this shift will help you think a little bit more positively and a little bit more in an empowering sense about the responsibilities that you have in your life. So thanks so much.
