GoodByDesign Preview

The BOSS Group, a 25-year-old creative staffing agency, runs GoodbyDesign, which connects pro-bono designers and marketers with nonprofits that can't afford their own creative teams. Nonprofits get high-quality design work; volunteers gain experience and community impact. Partners like Goodwill and CDIA share space and equipment to make it work.

And the Boss Group is a creative staffing agency. We specialize in placing marketing, communications, graphic design, interactive, and editorial professionals on a freelance, temp-to-hire, and direct basis. We've been around for about 25 years, and we have offices in Metro DC area, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New Jersey, Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas. So we're growing. It's hard to remember all of them.
Passion into this project, and, um, that's where we are today. Uh, like I said, this is our second time, and I couldn't be more pleased with the turnout. Adam and the folks at CBIA for donating this amazing space, their technology, their equipment, their printers— like, all of this couldn't happen without him and Seth and CBIA. Student volunteers, you guys rock. Thank you so much. I'm sure it was really hard to get up this early on a Sunday.
Well, Good by Design for us is it allows us to do what we're good at, which is placing people on projects. And the flip side of it here is we are finding causes that actually need creative talent support. So we can use our, I guess, staffing mojo and understanding of the creative community for good, to provide a good outlet for folks who are looking to give back to the community, as well as give an opportunity to worthy organizations who need some creative support but might not have the funds to pay for it.
So the Boss Group has always been committed to supporting and serving in the communities in which they reside.
My name is Tom O'Keefe. I'm a web and graphic designer. I'm a design manager for Goodwill of Greater Washington. Definitely being a nonprofit, whenever you can get volunteers, whether it's for retail stores or for this purpose of designing things, it's kind of hard for me being the only designer within the organization to kind of stay on top of things and keep things fresh and new.
You know, we work for CDIA in response to providing career opportunities for all of our students, whether it's internships, full-time jobs, opportunities like this, such as Good by Design, which is very reminiscent of our practicum program. We work with athletes with intellectual disability. Our goal is to integrate them into mainstream sports and help them accelerate on the international level when they're competing against their peers. around the world.
I think, I mean, most of the things we're doing, we're just, we're so focused on the program aspect that we're like, oh quick, we need some symbol on this, or quick, the clothing company needs this, and we just have to like put it together without there being like a structured organization that's not just starting out. You have all those resources sitting somewhere, and we just jumped right in with the work because we joined the organization INAS in 2009 and 3 weeks later we were taking a team to the Czech Republic. And you just needed all of these things so quickly. So, and then you just, they just hang on for a while.
Yeah, right.
You just need to go back to them and revisit and redo them. So that's why we're here.
The BOSS Group is one of those places I think that's, it's a really special place to work. It's hard to explain to people outside of why it's a great place to work, but it's because we have really good people working there who truly care about each other. And I think the way that we embody this is through Goodbye Design.
Goodbye Design is a nonprofit organization that aims to create a world where
