Are you awake?

Zach Oldham spent years building a multimillion-dollar company on autopilot until a friend's father called him a genius operating at a fraction of his potential. He read Reality Transurfing and now uses a Post-it note on his bathroom mirror asking "Are you awake?" to stay conscious throughout the day.

So I've filmed a few videos like this before, but I'm stealing this kind of format from a friend of mine called Charlie, who's done quite well with YouTube recently. And this is the first video I think I've ever uploaded that's just going to be a bit of a vlog, a bit of a rant of me talking. I've had videos like that in the past where there's one specific topic and there's probably a general topic that I'll share today, but it's more of like a personal update and this video is more for myself, for me to go back and watch in the future. And the— it comes from me reading this book. So I started reading this book. You might have seen it around. It's very popular. Reality Transurfing by Vadim Zeland. He is a quantum physicist, a Russian quantum physicist. So these are steps 1 to 4. I don't honestly know how many steps there actually are. It's translated from the Russian text. and it's kind of a collection of, um, this guy's writing. And the, the entire concept of the book is helping you navigate what Vadim describes as the alternative space, um, or the alternative sector, which is essentially the, the sector in which everything exists. Uh, so if you go deep into quantum physics, you'll discover that there are— there's the concept of multiple realities and multiple universes. It seems like that's where Vadim initially got that from. And he talks about this alternative space where every reality, the good, the bad, exists. And essentially what you can do with your mind and your actions in life to get to whatever reality you want, if that makes sense. So essentially you get to choose your reality, you get to choose what your life looks like. And then you can use different tools essentially to navigate into different realities and discover which realities are designed and suited best for you. Now, there's a part of the book where he talks about this, this concept of your mind being asleep and essentially you dozing off throughout the day. And I've always thought of this concept as being on autopilot. So I don't know if you've ever gone and gotten out of bed and you go and brush your teeth or you do something that's very habitual and you kind of just do it automatically. Like there is no, there is not much cognitive function or awareness that you are doing the activity. You just kind of go ahead and do it. And I think that we do that for most of our lives. Like we spend a lot of time actually on autopilot, just kind of doing things without consciously thinking of them. And it was actually reading this book and starting to reflect over the last few years that I started to question to myself how awake I've actually been over the last few years. There was this period of time in 2020 during the end of the year where I was incredibly focused on my personal goals, my business goals, and like my professional career. Like everything that I was doing in my life, I was very focused and I was moving with a lot of intention and purpose behind it all. And I felt very awake at that time. I don't know how else to describe it apart from the fact that I had a lot of clarity mentally and I was very conscious about things happening around me. And in that period of time, I saw, I saw an immense amount of growth within myself. And it almost seems that in the last couple of weeks, and I don't know what exactly has triggered it, and in fact I think I do, and I'll get into that in a second. But it seems that in the last maybe 2 to 6, 7 weeks, I've kind of woken up from this trance that I've been in over the last few years. And clearly it's been for the best for whatever reason that had to happen. But it seems that I was almost living this kind of like autopilot life, building the company, putting systems and structure in place that would allow the company that I ran, I run to kind of run it and operate itself. And I think I've just lost the— like, or not lost, but I think I stopped focusing on what I really, really, really care about, what I really, really want to do long term. And I've been kind of idling. So I have a friend, and his dad is an incredibly successful, powerful, I think, man. He's one of the most successful people on the planet in terms of percentile. And, uh, as a result, my friend has observed much of his actions growing up, being, being, being his son. And he, he said to me, uh, maybe 7, 6, 7 weeks ago, he, he said to me, Zach, uh, I think you are operating and moving with a fraction of your potential. And Nobody said that to me before. I don't think, apart from like when I was in like primary and elementary and high school, when teachers might have been criticizing me for behavior they didn't like. I haven't heard in the last couple of years anybody say to me, Zach, I think you're moving at a fraction of your potential. And that, like, struck a chord for me because, A, I respected his opinion and I respect the way that he thinks about the world. But B, because I agreed with him instantly when he said that, I almost like looked at myself in this virtual mirror and I was like, holy shit, I have been operating at an absolute fraction. And I don't know why. I can't explain exactly why. This is the case. Um, but one of the things that, that he said, and this was a big— something that was incredibly encouraging and something that was also very motivating for me to, to kind of reassess everything that I was— that I'm currently doing in life and, um, that I was previously doing. Um, but he said, my dad met you and said to me afterwards that you are a genius. and he was like, you have insane amounts of potential. I think you, you, you, you're one of the most capable people, uh, I've ever met and you're gonna be incredibly successful. And I've always believed that. Um, but hearing that from, from somebody who I respect with, with their, uh, I guess ability to look at situations and, um, kind of, uh, discern things and draw conclusions without lots of information, but just going off of feeling and intuition. Yeah, it really resonated with me and it made me go, holy shit, I need to get moving. I've achieved a lot so far in my life and I'm quite happy with it, but yeah, I'm just acting at a fraction of my potential. And this phrase that I've kind of landed on as a result of reading Reality Transurfing has been 'Are you awake?' And I've now got a Post-it note on my bathroom mirror. When I get out of bed, it's one of the first things I see, and it just says, 'Are you awake?' And I'm continuing to ask myself this question throughout the day as I'm going about tasks and actions and interacting with people. I'm just checking with myself, am I, am I actually awake, or am I kind of on autopilot just doing whatever my body feels like doing. And for me, that, that turned into bad habits, or that turned into, uh, just kind of puttering around throughout the day and not really, really getting a lot of productive work done. I've always been able to get a decent amount of stuff done, but how productive that is is a, is a different question. And, uh, I, I know what, I know what my goals are. I know what I really want to do and what I'm really, really passionate about, but It's— I've almost been like distracted and very comfortable with the actions that I'm doing on a daily basis. I've just been kind of like— I don't know how else to describe it apart from being on autopilot. So that's my— I think that's my rant for the day. I'm getting super distracted by these people outside now. But that's like the thing that I wanted to talk about. That's the thing that I've driven up to this mountain to discuss. And I think as part of, part of this new desire and decision to act with a lot more intent, focus on goals, I'm going to be posting more content. I'm going to be showing more of the behind the scenes of my life because I've dismissed the— I think the, the, the successes and the achievements that I've had quite a lot, and I haven't, I haven't really shared anything online. Very, very brief amounts here and there. But I know that there's a lot that I've learned building a multimillion dollar company at my current age. I'm 21 and I, yeah, I'm excited to keep building and I'm excited to keep working towards the goals and ambitions that I have as well as the people that are around me have. And I'm excited for all the things that we're working on. So I want to share more of these projects with the world. I want to I want to, yeah, show everybody what we're doing and give everyone the opportunity to tell me what they think as well. So if you watched this all the way to the end, thank you. Leave a comment. I'll try my best to respond always. So feel free to leave a comment, a question, or shoot me a message and I'll respond to you. Otherwise, thanks and I'll see you in the next one.
