Abu Lahya: How to Stay Focused #muslim #entrepreneur #business #islam

Two speakers discuss how deep focus requires insulation from external noise. One realized that obsessing over politics and other people's drama was unproductive, so he shifted toward self-care and long-term goals. Both argue social media platforms profit from stealing your attention, while real progress comes from directing it inward.
Now what I was telling my son, I see how he doesn't even know some of the current events. That means that he's locked in, he's focused. You don't even know what's going on around you at times.
I realized after being so involved in everything, it didn't benefit me in any way. And even if I wanted to be of benefit or help, I wasn't capable of.
So I was like, what's the point of me being so involved? Some people see that as a flaw, but I don't see that as a flaw because when you're really focused, you're not concerned about a lot of other things that you may, may have been in the past, but it's not directly contributing to what you're trying to do.
I used to follow like politics and what's going on and what did this guy say. But then I realized, like, I'm so focused on this, I'm not even focused on myself. I can't even help them. So why not help myself? And then I could actually be of benefit later on. I was over-focusing on other people. And then I realized, if you look at it, when you see on the long time frame— so if you look at 1 year, 2 years, why have you achieved, why have you done— you're going to be aware of all the updates, what's happening between this and that guy and the drama and how it was solved. But if you ask yourself, what was the actual benefit? What did I get out of it? How did my life change over the past 2 years? And you realize you're at the same spot, that's when you're like, okay, I gotta actually focus on myself.
And social media, their currency is attention. The more attention, the more views, the more eyeballs, the more money they make. But those eyeballs are looking at so many different things and not looking at themselves.
