How To Become a Strong Muslim Man In 2025 (feat. Sheikh Oduro)

A live YouTube workout/conversation between two speakers (including Sheikh Abdullah) combining practical strength-training instruction (rows, clean/press, squats, breathing and bracing cues) with a spiritual framing: the body is described as an amana (trust from Allah), workout intention (saying bismillah/alhamdulillah) can turn physical effort into ibadah, and physical discipline builds mental and spiritual strength. The transcript includes setup chatter, step-by-step coaching cues, and short reflections linking fitness to service and faith.

Muscle ups. Pull ups. Muscle up.
Can we do it here? Let me see. I'm pretty sure those. It might work.
No, look how close it is to the ceiling, man.
Well, it actually works.
Unless you got to lean over and then go up. Hey, Y. That worked. Yeah, it worked. See? Yeah.
Legend, Can you.
Yeah. Okay, we're ready. We are ready.
Just set up the nice angle. It's gonna take the thumbnail on the first.
Okay. Yeah. Abdul Hakim is calling me. I don't know why he wants.
That's for moderation. Tell him just text you right now. It's not gonna work. Please. One second. It's fine, but please never call this phone again because that's the WI fi that's using the stream. If you do that, it's going to kill the stream. But it's okay.
You didn't know. It's okay.
Just tell me the question and never call again.
Okay. No. Can you send me over the information insh. Relation?
Yeah, this. Okay, fine.
You can.
No, no, I got it.
I got it. Come. I got it.
That's the thing, you know, you could.
He didn't know.
Just put it on. Do not disturb. Put it on this so the phone doesn't ring.
Excited.
Just.
Are we good? Probably want to come on this side? Okay. Let's just start with some rows. All right. So the main thing with rows. Feet shoulder width apart. All right. I have to come straight down. And the way I think. What I usually start with my. My palms out. Actively trying to break the bar. The reason you're doing that is to make sure that your muscles are activating here.
Y.
Right above the shoelaces.
Yep.
Lift it up with your legs. Stop at this angle here and just try to pull it to your belly button. Okay.
You don't go your back further here. You stay. This is the level.
You go further.
Okay.
When it gets heavy, you can come up a little more.
Okay.
I try to get almost at a right angle.
And your back stay straight back. Stay straight.
Far right below the kneecaps. Okay. One, two. Okay.
Makes sense. Let me try one side.
Yeah.
Right now I'm gonna get.
Okay. And then try to bend the bar. It's gonna bring your elbows close, legs slightly bent. 5. Nice live workout with Sheikh Abdullah. So I usually do this when I come from the gym or when I come from traveling.
But I give them confidence because they have no idea we lie, who we are.
Bless us with his presence. Alhamdulillah Bilalamin. So being that we're all travelers, our travelers in this dunya. But here, traveling in the gym, we always travel around, going around the world, trying to help people in different ways. Alhamdulillah, worshiping Allah, Subhanahu wa ta'. Ala. When I usually come home from traveling, sometimes I go straight from the airport to the gym and I just do a full body workout. You know, I'm 48, so I just want to make sure it's not about the muscles. It's about the.
Why is it so important so. To get you off? Why is it so important for you to work out?
For me, it's. It's an amana. I mean, the body is an amana. The body is a trust from Allah. So making sure that I stay fit, stay lubricated, that my joints are lubricated so I'm able to perform for myself, for my family, and to help the Ummah. Inshallah. That's mainly why. Just to see what Allah blessed them good. So I do. Some will call it five by fives, but sometimes I'll do all five, depending on warming up. Right now? No, we just did the warm up early with the band. Okay. Oh, look. He said, are we warming up? He tried to look serious. He tried to look serious.
I was gonna say I'm warm. Like, let's stop warming up. Nah. Okay.
One thing. Yeah.
Trying to take the laptop out. The stream is extremely laggy on my side. I don't know if it's.
Take it up for me. It. You can move around. All right, what's next?
You tell me.
It's maybe a little. You usually do shoulder press at all? Huh? You do shoulder press at all with the bar?
Yeah.
Yeah.
You do? Yeah.
Just hope this won't be a little hyper.
We'll see.
So I usually start off with my palms out. And the only reason I do this is to always act like you're going to break the bar. Okay. To engage the muscles initially. So you see my back here?
Oh, yeah.
When I come in, come straight above the clavicle area. Boom. Come on. This is a little too low for me when I'm doing this for. Are you? Yes. But I can still get used to it. So glitch, come under, and I lift up with my hips. Okay. Lift up my hips. Boom. Step back. Okay. When you lift, it's about lifting above your head. So it's bam. You lift so much above your head. One cue that you can find out if you're lifting it correctly is if you lift it, it should hit your chin. You literally have to get your head out the Way. Bring it back under. Boom. And when you rack it, don't bring it forward. You'll mess up your lower back. When you get my edge, come.
What did these things do? I can talk. All right, look at this. Look at this.
Mashaallah.
That's life.
That's a lie. Come on, bro.
Come on.
Your battery's little. Yes. Let's go.
Okay, so you said hands here.
Yeah. So this is called. It's called the noeller. Right. So, okay, where the smooth meets the rough, that's generally where you want to go. Or shoulder width apart. Okay. Yeah.
It's like this.
Yep.
You come like this.
Try to bend. Break the bar. Yep. Bend the bar, huh? Boom. Okay. Wait.
Should I step in?
Leg. Step in with one foot. Yeah.
Here?
Yeah. Try to get your elbows under the bar. Just throw with your waist. Boom. Now come back one step. Boom. Feet shoulder width apart. Bismillah. Boom. Nice. Boom. Perfect. Perfect. You'll find people, when they lift, they'll lift it in front of them, and that can eventually mess with their lower back. 3. Go. Breathe in. Good. That was far. Okay. Boom. Back. Racket. Racket. Perfect. Good, good. You, sir, are you? Yeah, I got it.
One second.
Which one?
Just gotta put a thumbnail on. It's gonna be very good.
Shekhanah. Okay. Why do you train? What's the main reason that pushes you? It's the amana. It's an amana. It's a trust from Allah. Subhanahu wa ta'. Ala. It's what Allah has given you. You're using it in a way, taking care of it, maintaining strength, even for strength of the body is strength of the soul through the strength. So challenge even. Even though it's strength of the soul, strength of the body, it's strength of the soul through strength of the mind. Okay, so like, for example, man, I got shoulder pain. It's not that bad. This is not my heaviest. I don't want to do it. Bismillah. I'm going to do it. Bismillah. I'm going to do it pushing myself. I'll feel much better while I'm going through the set. When I feel it's difficult. For example, what did I say at the beginning? Bismillah. What does that mean though, right? I'm doing it in the name of Allah, not in the name of looking in the mirror. Looking at my aesthetics. Oh, yeah, they all gonna be on me. No, it's like when I go in the mirror, I'm saying alhamdulillah. So when I bend the bar, Engage just this in and of itself. It gets me in a mental mode. Right. This is in a manner from Allah subhana wa ta' ala that I'm using. And I'm pushing myself. Right. How many of us make the hajju? Don't answer the question. Right, but you have to push yourself to wake up because you probably even, even though you had a rough night, still push yourself. Oh, get under it. This is what I do right now. Yeah. If it's that last one instead of a barbell, what is it? Dumbbell. No, what is it?
What?
What is it? Instead of this being a barbell with 25 pound plates, what is it?
That's a guy.
It's a rock. You're pushing it off a young girl's foot in Gaza. Boom, boom. Right? That's how it becomes spiritual. Okay. You're going in a different realm. You're pushing yourself. Okay. And that's what you need mentally to push to get that last rep. Right.
So you. So we're working out physically.
Right.
But by doing the hard thing, it strengthens your mental.
Right.
And allows you to strengthen your iman.
Right. Because when you strengthen that mental, you're conditioning yourself. Say, yes, I can do it. Okay. And that's why you say bismillah, which strengthens the spiritual connection as well. So it ends up becoming what? It ends up becoming Ibadah. Because you realize it's from Allah, it's an intention. Why are you coming here now? Are you. You up straight?
Yes.
So remember, bend the ball shoulder width apart.
Yep.
Bend it to where your elbows are basically facing the ground instead of outward. That's the goal.
Then it's just.
Yeah, well, it's lifting it up to where the bar would hit your chin. You want to get your face out the way to ensure it's above your head. Because when people usually lift, they'll lift like this. Yeah. Goes all to the lower back because you got to keep your. You don't even realize you're holding yourself up like this. Okay. Yeah. So you get lower back pain and you get my edge. You don't want that. Okay. Especially if you only have one wife, but you have more. You want to make sure you have.
You gotta be healthy, strengthen.
Yeah, man. Think I'm playing. She'd be like, it's okay, it's okay. Try to keep your hands. It's okay. There you go.
Yep, yep.
Huh?
Spin left.
One. Woo. Let's go. Extend all the way. Extend all the way. Yes. Come on. Control, control, control. Uh huh. Extend a little above your head a little more. Huh? That's the one. That's the one. Two more. Come on. Let's relax.
Go.
Whoa. Let's go. Ah. Rack it. Rack it all the way. When you rack it, you'll find people that rack it. They'll rack it like this. Nah, it's lower back. Go. Okay, so you hear it? Makes sense, right? All right, next we're gonna go to squats.
I might need to pizza stream. You know, I think it's a cold or something.
All right, so with squats. Yep, pretty much the same. So the person's anatomy can differ. You know what I'm saying? Because me, I like to have my feet 45 degrees out a little further than my shoulders because I have a long femur. If I squat regularly, I have what's called a. I don't know if you heard, it's called a butt. Wink. At the very bottom, you're going to see this lower part go in.
Yep.
Right. So putting my legs out a little more gives my feet liberty and allows me to sit in between my knees a little more with a little more grace. Right. So, you know, with the squat, also, you want to make sure the bar is above your traps, so you kind of push your elbows back like so. Here, See, when I push my elbows back, it's tighter upper back. Sitting on a platform, again, use your waist to lift the bar up. Boom. Two steps back. You don't gotta dance to come back. It's two steps back. Okay. And for me, I extend my back out just a little because of my long femur. Then I go straight down with it. Breathe in. And the whole rep is underwater. So what's that?
So you breathe in. Then as you're going up, you exhale.
You exhale when you're done. Okay. So you're underwater. Water level is here. So it's here. Breathe in. And when you breathe in, the whole purpose of breathing in generally is to distend your stomach like a balloon to keep your spine tight. That's why people wear a belt. When Russians wore a belt, they would wear the belt when they breathe in. Brings that pressure to the spine, keeps everything tight. Right. So really, when you lift weights, you don't want to be moving like this unless it's the heaviest. Your last part. Yeah, you want to stay as tight as possible as still as possible to keep your core strength tight and then just move accordingly. Just the movement. Right. All right. What.
What muscles am I working out right now?
Your quads, your core back kind of isometrically basically come up. Focus on keeping those elbows back. Oh, it just went off then.
I don't know.
It looks.
Looks fine. Y. Y.
It's not really leaning forward. It's really like someone is pulling your shirt just a little here.
Makes sense.
And it come down.
