Eyoub and Speaker B discuss how Muslims can build wealth without compromising Islamic principles. They contrast haram income, citing Jeffrey Epstein and El Chapo as cautionary tales, with halal role models like Abdur-Rahman ibn Awf. The speakers warn against riba and debt, and emphasize that ethical business brings barakah while illicit money brings spiritual ruin.
Chapters
On the Day of Judgment, do you want to be with Epstein? Do you want to be with people like Firaun? No.
Do you know that those people, do you know what they own?
No.
They own banks.
They own you.
Exactly.
Understand that's going to end them up in a prison cell. That's going to end them up in a grave. That's going to have them end up taking shower with a bunch of guys. And unless you're into that kind of a thing, leave that lifestyle alone.
I know a lot of the people in the audience, they're surrounded by haram. Everyone around them. Whether that's for real estate and with riba, whether that's online and people are just using haram businesses. How could people find a way that's actually halal?
That's a beautiful advice for people of business. If you want your business to grow— Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.
Welcome to a new episode. A lot of Muslim brothers nowadays want to get in business but are so tired and afraid because they believe it's so difficult to become wealthy the halal way. Everything is about riba, everything is about gambling and using shady tactics and haram behaviors. They feel like it's almost impossible to become wealthy the halal way. There's so many temptations. How can they stay steadfast?
First thing to remember, there is no barakah in haram. When you're feeding your family with haram, you're putting the fire of Jahannam into their stomach.
SubhanAllah.
The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) warned us about this. Even eating in gold and silver, pots was forbidden for us because the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said, 'La hum fid dunya wa lakum fil akhira.' It's for them in this dunya, but for you it's in the akhira. So never put haram into the stomachs of your family. And understand this, and I'm going to be explicit and honest here, even the biggest drug pimps in the world, where are they today? Where's Chapo Guzman sitting in a cell in a prison? Where's the likes of Alex Felix Cartel and those people that started? They're all either dead or in prison. There is no barakah in that risk. And if you look at the Prophet, we have a beautiful example of the Qaum of Aad and Hud (as), who was the Prophet sent to the Qaum of Aad. Qaum of Aad were very strong men. They were very strong in a community. They were physically strong. They had that pride where they challenged, is there who's stronger than us? And not just that, but they were good in business. They were wealthy.
So they were strong and wealthy.
Strong and wealthy.
Were they worshipping Allah?
But they made shirk with Allah (SWT). They did haram in their trade. They were dishonest in their business dealings. They were oppressive to people.
And those were the people who were around Hud (AS)?
Yes. And Hud (AS), he warned them. He gave them the warnings repeatedly, but they did not listen. They built huge palaces and huge structures out of kibr, out of pride and out of vanity. And they challenged people that where is anybody as strong as us? But Allah (SWT) destroyed them. And the strongest people in the history of mankind physically, as has been written, they would rip trees out of the ground, physically strong. They were financially strong. They were a superpower in the Ahqaf region of Arabia. They were Arab, the originals, right? What did Allah (SWT) destroy them with? Wind. SubhanAllah. Something that is so light.
Wind. You barely can see it.
You can't see it. You can feel a little bit, you know, but the screaming, howling, sharp, horrific wind. And then the screaming wind destroyed them. For 7 nights and 8 days. 7 nights and 8 days of destruction.
With wind.
With wind. Not a bone, not a building structure, no ruins. They were— Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) completely wiped them out to show that those that are oppressive, those that have pride, those that think that they're untouchable, Allah will take something as light as a wind and finish them off.
SubhanAllah. You mentioned Hud was amongst them, but he was practicing. Was he as successful as them?
Allah (SWT) brought Hud (AS) from them, but he was not engaging in their behaviors. And Allah (SWT) protected him and made him more successful in this world and the Akhira.
SubhanAllah. Because he stayed on the steadfast path and he didn't take shortcuts and behaved in a, with haram behavior and shady tactics.
Exactly. And that's the thing with us. You may see a drug dealer or somebody doing some scams and dropshipping or somebody doing crypto scams and you see them, you know, they got this thing now with, you know, scammers taking credit cards and faking them and you see them, you see these guys in Atlanta, for example, rocking around with a bunch of plastic fake cards and just swiping away and walking out Louis Vuitton. But understand that's going to end them up in a prison cell. That's going to end them up in a grave. That's going to have them end up taking shower with a bunch of guys. And unless you're into that kind of a thing, leave that lifestyle alone.
And that's what was happening in the dunya.
Yes.
Let alone what's happening in the akhira.
Imagine the punishment in the akhira for it. And understand this, when you make money the halal way, You can enjoy it. I grew up with drug dealers, but they couldn't do anything with that money. You can't put it in a bank, you can't go buy a car, you can't walk into a car dealership and drop $100K cash and they're going to be like, "Whoa, call the IRS." So, you don't enjoy that haram money. And there is no barakah in it. But you can earn more than that in the halal. You know, people that do business in the halal way and dedicate their mind and use the right way, They can make more money than drug dealers, but they will enjoy that money. There will be barakah in that money, there will be blessings in that money, that money will be good for their dunya and akhira. But when you do the same in the haram, wallahi, you will never enjoy it.
Subhanallah. But how could people specifically, I know a lot of the people in the audience, they are surrounded by haram, everyone around them, whether that is for real estate and with riba, whether that is just on the streets and people are dealing drugs, whether that is online and people are just using haram businesses, how could people find a way that's actually halal.
And that's where we take the example from Hud (as). He saw all of those mansions around him, he saw those palaces being built, he saw that prideful people.
It feels tempting.
But he saved himself knowing that Allah is Ar-Razzaq, knowing that that would be wrong. And he found ways to make money. He was not somebody starving either. But he did it in the halal. And we find that same with the Sahaba (ra). The Sahaba (ra), when the Quraysh were oppressive in their dealings, when they were dealing with riba, when they were oppressing the poor, the Sahaba like Abdur Rahman ibn Awf and Abu Bakr and others, they saw that environment, but they withdrew themselves and did business the halal way. Withdrawing it in the way that Allah (SWT) has ordained, and Allah (SWT) increased their wealth over the people doing haram. And this is why programs like yours where you can teach people in the halal how to make money are very important for the Muslim Ummah to be able to grow our wealth, to be able to grow our stand, to be able to be self-sufficient, to have that esteem as an Ummah that we're not begging anybody, we're out there doing big things with business but within the halal.
Yes, SubhanAllah. You know, that's actually why I started posting videos. Actually, I mentioned it to you. We were speaking earlier off camera, I said I actually don't like making videos and I hate being famous and whatnot. But I realized a few years ago, about 5 years ago, I was in France. I was born and raised in France and I was looking to start a business. I was looking online, how can I start a business? Only thing I could find was from non-Muslims. And halfway through what they were teaching, I would always find something shady. And now we're halfway through the training and we're going to use a credit card. Now we're halfway through this and we're going to use— what women. Now we're going to add music to whatever they were doing, to the advertisement they're doing. And I was like, this is making it so difficult. And SubhanAllah, as you mentioned, that's actually by pushing through it. At some point it was tempting. I was seeing my friends, they started a month, 2 months into it, they're making money. I've been trying for 6 months avoiding haram. It's difficult for me. It's tempting. You see them be successful faster. But SubhanAllah, from sticking through it I ended up not having success faster, but long term ended up having more success. And subhanallah, my business sustained myself better than theirs in difficult times because I had barakah in my business from staying with halal. And also spending more time and going through the difficult path actually taught me the real skills and taught me the benefit of running a proper business rather than a get-rich-quick or something that's just shady on pyramid schemes. Exactly. Most of these haram behaviors, you'd see quick money. Like they say, whatever comes fast goes fast. You'd see people, even you probably met them, people who, as you mentioned before, in gangs, whoever is a drug dealer, whatever, you see they have no barakah in the money in terms of what Allah (SWT) gives them. But you also see them, the way that they spend their money, it feels like there's no benefit to it. They would mention it, they feel empty inside.
It's a very, very important thing that you've said, which is that when you have fast money, it comes fast and it goes easy come, easy go. And it's dirty money, spends easy, but then it goes away and there's no barakah in it, right? And just think about those people like Jeffrey Epstein, for example. At a time, he was a billionaire. At a time, he had all those haram ways to trick and capture people and control them. I mean, he was going around the world and leaders and politicians and singers and from Elon Musk to Bill Gates were begging to go to his island. But where is he today? Where did he end up? Think about that. Right? Exactly how we should think about ourselves. Where do I want to end up? Do I want to end up as a person who had barakah in their life, that lived in the halal, that in this dunya Allah will protect and Allah will raise their ranks and give you healthy family and so on? Or do I want to end up like Chapo Guzmán in a cell, like Epstein hanging in a cell, supposedly having committed suicide, but You know what happened. Do I want to end up on the Day of Judgment with them? Imagine the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said, "الْمَرُّوُ مَا مَنْ حَبْيَنِى" (Al-Maru'u Ma Man Habbiani) "A person will be with the one they love." So on the Day of Judgment, do you want to be with Epstein? Do you want to be with those kinds of people like Firaun? No! You want to be with the likes of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم), with Abu Bakr and Umar and Uthman, Ali and Abdur Rahman ibn Auf, And those great Sahaba, those Anbiya like Hud (AS) and Saleh (AS), that's who you want to be with. So that's who you have to love, that's who you have to emulate, that's who you have to— and Allah will bless you in Dunya and Akhira.
SubhanAllah. And one of the advice I can give to the people who are watching this is, unfortunately, unfortunately, I've been around those people, and I've been around people who made bad money, and as successful as they may seem, as luxurious as their lifestyle may be, they all genuinely feel empty inside. And you can see it. And even use the example of Epstein, without getting in details, you can see at which madness extent they would go to, to satisfy their desires. You can clearly see that's not someone who's sane. That's actually someone who's insane.
They have corrupted their fitrah.
And you can see Even non-Muslims would see this and be, this does not make sense. Why does someone have to go to such an extreme? And you can see, if you look at how they made their money, the path they followed, if you looked at it from an external perspective, you're like, great, they're successful, they have so much money. But if you were to ask them, if you were to speak with them and understand their life, they all feel empty inside. They don't feel any barakah, they don't feel any happiness. It's an empty shell. And that's why they would end up using drugs, they would end up using terrible ways of entertaining themselves.
Yeah, and they can't sleep at night, they have to take medication to fall asleep, they can't function.
And you know why that is? They keep distracting themselves because they know themselves that what they're doing is wrong. It's wrong. And they keep keeping themselves busy and distracted with those intoxicants and so forth just so that they can escape this reality. And that's a big wake-up call because many people would see, yeah, but that way I can make money, that way I can, I can have this car that I want, that way I can, I don't have to worry about bills. You'll solve that problem, but you're going to create a much bigger problem in your life from having this.
And then who's going to be driving that car while you're doing jail time? Who's going to be driving that car when you're in that grave? It's just ridiculous. We have to stay within the halal, we have to stay within what Allah (SWT) has ordered, the way of the Anbiya (Prophets). Otherwise, there is no success in this world except through that. I'll tell you this, I mean, I'm going to end on this beautiful hadith, and this hadith Sheikh Al-Bani graded as authentic in the Sahih of Sunan Abi Dawud. Imam Ahmad and Ibn Majah and others have reported it as well. The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) told the people of business that business has a lot of idle talk. Like a lot of times, you have to talk about a lot of useless things in trying to get there, and sometimes there is a lot of oath-taking, you know, Allah is like this, so on. So, he gave this advice, he said, mix it with Sadaqah. Protect yourself by giving Sadaqah in your business to make up for those kinds of even wasted time. Purifies your wealth. Tells you Sadaqah will give Barakah in your business. And that's a beautiful advice for people of business. If you want your business to grow, give Sadaqah. Now imagine that, right? Like a Sahabi came to the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم), said, I don't have money. He said, give Sadaqah. And Allah blessed that Sahabi, then Allah gave him more rizq. See, people are blinded. They think riba means more money coming in, but actually destroys your wealth. They think sadaqah means that money is leaving, but actually blesses your wealth.
I mean, a very good example you're mentioning here with the riba. Do you know that America is the country with the most debt?
Yes.
And we can see how inflation is coming.
Trillions of dollars.
People don't realize it. They think inflation just means the prices are rising. But they don't realize the country is printing money because of the loans and the inflation they created with fake money. Yes, they basically took money and added more money to it without creating any value.
It's not even currency anymore. Yeah, they don't even have paper on hand, less than 1/10 of what's out there in some banks, 7% of paper, let alone gold or anything worth anything.
And you can see most people who are living in this economy, specifically when it comes to riba, you can see more— I think the data said more than 80% of them, the reasons why they go bankrupt is because of the system and how they're using riba. It says it chokes you until you have— basically, it squeezes you until you have no more oxygen because the interest rate goes up. You borrow money, you have to— you stay in the hamster wheel. You, you're paying off the debt, and then you get another debt, and you pay off the debt, and you stay squeezed.
You use one card to pay the other card.
Yeah, exactly. And people people see it and see as an advantage. They say, oh, if I could take a loan, I could do real estate, I could do this, because they see the benefit, they see the good side of it. People own real estate. I don't think, I don't think people understand how bad it actually is, specifically in the economy. I can see people who ended up worse than you could ever be just by getting involved in those things, getting involved in real estate with riba, getting involved in business loans, getting involved in things they couldn't afford. There's a reason why Allah (AJ), the Lord of the world, the one who created wealth, made this haram for you. Allah (AJ) cares for you more than you care for yourself. And if he said don't get into this, he knows better than you.
Yes.
And he's saying this not for you to be poor, he's saying this for you to be wealthy. He made the rules. Allah (AJ) created the rules and he said stay away from this.
100%.
That's a big, big reminder.
I've seen it in practical life. I'll tell you this, you know, we see In America, a lot of people in real estate, and you see young people, they take out sub-mortgages and subprime loans, and you see them end up being homeless. I've seen it myself. People that I know that were buying $600, $700 million houses and then were homeless because they couldn't pay it. And I've seen people who are not Muslim but are very powerful, successful, businessmen, and they come in with all cash offers.
Yep.
They're not going to the bank. Yep. They know better. They have set that system to enslave us, but they themselves—
and a big thing, and we can end on this, and I don't care if this gets taken down— many people would push get riba, use loans, borrow debt. There's some big gurus that mention this. An advice I'll have for you is do some research. On who those people are without naming anyone. There's some very famous people who wrote very big business books that constantly speak about borrowing, buy debt, use debt to, you know, buy real estate and so forth. Do you know that those people, do you know what they own?
No.
They own banks. If you go deep. Yeah, interesting. Yeah, if you go deep, why are they so promoting it? Why are they so interested in you getting debt? Because they end up owning the bank.
They own you.
Exactly. They're going to end up owning all the money that you'll make, and they'll choke you until the last dollar that you have, until you go deeper in debt, and then you go another loan. And then people sometimes, you see, spend their entire lifespan living paycheck to paycheck just because they have to keep borrowing and keep paying.
You're just working for them.
And it's, again, that's another reminder. It's beautiful to see, specifically in business more and more as I get more exposed to non-Muslims and their business practices, I'm actually very thankful that, alhamdulillah, we're Muslims and we have those rules when it comes to business in Islam. Because if you think about it, Allah is actively protecting you from harming yourself with business with the rules that he made.
Alhamdulillah.
Subhanallah.
Alhamdulillah.
So in summary, if you're watching this video and you attempted to go with something that's haram. A lot of people around you are using shady tactics. You're seeing things online that you know are either grey or haram, and you're hesitant about getting involved in it. I promise you, stay away from it. Follow the path of Hud (على السلام). Stay steadfast and know that Allah (عز و جل) is the one who's going to provide for you. And just like He managed to destroy all the oppressors and He protected Hud by staying away from haram, He will destroy all the oppressors and protect you. And that being said, that was an amazing episode, and I'll see you in the next episode, inshallah.
