What Every Muslim Needs To Know Before Making Hijrah

Eyoub and co-host discuss hijrah (migration) through entrepreneurship. Abd al-Rahman ibn Auf left Mecca wealthy but rebuilt his fortune in Medina using only sales skills. Eyoub earned $3,000 in six days starting from zero in the U.S., and a friend sold his 99-cent store to move his family to Jordan. The core principle: skills matter more than capital.

But when it came time to make the hijra he left everything behind. You know, millions of dollars of comparative to today's currency was left behind.
But what he did have and I started from zero. I did the challenge live where I didn't use my connections, I didn't use any of my money. I was not Abu Lah anymore. I was Ayub starting from scratch. And it was my first time in the US and I had to go from from scratch again. I made a dollar selling karakti. I made $2 collecting trash on the street. On day six I made over $3,000.
Alhamdulillah, I've got a friend myself, came from nothing and he opened up a business. He had a 99 cent store. He was making very good money. And then he decided I want to make hijrah.
He left everything behind.
He left everything behind. And people told him, you're crazy Subhanallah. He went and Allah blessed him that he has more stores than he did
in the US That's a great story for people who want to make hijra. The Sahaba made hijrah lost everything and ended up having even more than he had before.
And that tells you something. I mean imagine the Sahaba were so generous that the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam had to.
Welcome to a new episode. In this episode we'll specifically help brothers who have no capital. They want to get in business but they don't have money. They think every single business requires money. And well today use this episode to disprove this for taking the time. I'm super excited. This is one of the favorite, favorite episode I was looking for because I know this Sahaba radiallahu anhu was very, very successful Tabarakallah. And there's a specific quote that he'll mention later. Inshaallah. That is amazing. He made his wealth without having capital. And with that being said, please introduce the Sahaba.
This is one of the wealthiest of the Sahaba and one of the most pious. In fact, he's one of the 10 that was given the glad tidings of Jannah in one sitting. So no doubt from the people of Jannah, this Abd al Rahman IBN Auf,
their sayings are heard that report. If we were to convert his wealth in today's currency, it would be equivalent over a hundred million dollars.
You know there's a lot of research done by scholars looking at the wealth that he had including dinars and dirhams and land and trade goods. And so on and different figures have been given but no doubt it would be in the hundreds of millions even closer to a billion or more from today's money.
A sahaba that was promised Jannah yes
that was a billionaire and what's amazing is that he had lost all his assets while making hijrah from Makkah to Medina Subhanallah.
So he went back to zero.
Zero absolute. So what happened?
You got my attention now Abd al
Rahman auf Radianhu was very wealthy and as in business they would say a self made man meaning in Mecca he worked hard in business. He was a cloth merchant like Abu Bakr and other businesses as well and he used to make really good money. But when it came time to make the hijra when Allah made it fard on him to move from Makkah to leave that environment for the sake of his Iman, for the sake of obedience to Allah and his messenger he left everything behind.
He didn't take a single thing with
him sing not a single thing. Zero. All his capital. But what he did have even though he didn't have his capital, he had his skill set. So he gets to Medina. He was a businessman. That was his skill set.
What was the cool skill set that he had as a businessman?
Again he was skilled in understanding market and understanding what he needs to buy and how he needs to sell the honesty and the reputation he needs to build. Understanding what is the supply and what is the demand and how to match the two. Something that he had developed over time. When he left Mecca the people of Mecca took all his wealth. They kept it back. So you know, millions of dollars comparative to today's currency was left behind. He got to Medina. So when he got to Madinah, one of the Ansar people of Medina, hospitable people, generous people told him look you are my brother. And there was a khuah between the Mahajareen and the Ansar there was a brotherhood. The prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam made and that's a good principle in business today that look if your brother comes and and he's trying to break into your industry, be a brother to him, help him out, help him out. So this Ansari said look you're my brother, whatever I have, half is yours. This is how generous this Ansari was. He said whatever land I have, I'll put it in half and I'm going to write half of it to you. He goes even though when my house, whatever houses I have, half are yours even to the point that he Said, look, I have two wives. I, I will divorce one so you can marry one. This is to the level that his generosity was. But now look at the beautiful example of Abdul Rahman ibn.
What would most, before you say, what would most people do in this situation?
That's it, man. I just lost all my wealth and somebody's offering me this capital to get
going with your house.
Let's go. Let's go.
So what did he do instead?
Instead he told him, may Allah bless you. He didn't take the wealth, he didn't take anything from him.
Subhanallah.
He told him, may Allah bless you. May Allah bless you and your wives. May Allah bless you and your family. May Allah bless you and your wealth. I don't want anything. The only thing I want from you is show me where's the market. That's a key line right there. That's the quote.
Show me the market.
Where's the market?
What was his intention behind it?
His intention was that I don't want to hand out, okay?
I want to earn it.
I want that Allah will bless me with my hard work and my own wealth.
Even though he just lost everything, even though he was at zero and he was offered everything, he refused it.
And in just a few days, he traded so well. He had such barakah because he was standing on his own two feet and not handouts for the sake of Allah, that he had left everything, that he was already getting married and he was already with wealth. In Medina, the Prophet saw him with a color on him and he from the things that they would do for celebrations. So he told him, are you getting married? He said, yes. Imagine he just came with zero and
just a few days after he gets married, right?
And that tells you something. Skills over capital. Don't worry about just having money, worry about having the skill set.
Because capital can come and go.
Come and go, but skill set, you
keep them for life.
Exactly. See podcasts and information like what you share with the brothers on here can give them the skill sets for, for them to then even without capital, develop themselves.
I even have examples. A few days ago I actually went went to America. A few months ago, Afwan and I started from zero. I did the challenge live where I didn't use my connections, I didn't use any of my money, I didn't use any of my previous businesses. I was not Abulaha anymore. I was Ayub starting from scratch and it was my first time in the U.S. the only thing I had with me was my skill set and I had to Go from, from scratch again. I made a dollar selling karakti. I made $2 collecting trash over six days. On, on five days I made no money. I made $3 on day six. I used my sales skills and my marketing skills and subhanallah by the father of Allah. I ended up closing a deal and I made, I made over $3,000 Alhamdulillah in those two days, starting from zero, only using my skills.
Six days.
With six days.
Amazing sadh. Within a very short period of time in Medina, even though this is a market, he didn't even know where the market was. In very short time, he became one of the wealthiest men in Medina.
Didn't complain, didn't go and beg. People said, show me the market.
Didn't go and just give up because he lost everything. Show me the market.
And what did he do when he seen the market? When he went there, he went, he
bought, you know, again, even though he had no capital, but at that time they would have this kind of deal where they would say, okay, look, we're going to business together. Here's my cloth. You take it, you sell it, you come back, you give me this much of profits. And he went and then he took it to different parts of the market in different parts of Medina. He went outside, he met people who needed it. He got the products to the people that needed it.
So he got to work. He actually tried to work, yeah, hard work.
But within a few days he had enough that he was getting married, that he was having a house, that he was having land.
And what happened after?
After that he continued to grow his business and he was extremely generous with it. Abd al Rahman Awfr. He used to give a lot of sadaqah. He used to give so much to the point where he would not leave that much for his family. So the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam calmed him down where he told him, like, okay, if you want to give, give away a third, right? But still keep for your inheritance, for your people, for your children. And he would, I mean, imagine the sahaba were so generous that the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam had to scale them back.
Subhanallah.
But what's very important for your audience to see is that not just that when he would give and even when his capital would go to zero, he would bring it back up higher than before by the will of Allah. Subhanahu wa ta'.
Ala.
So even if you lose your shirt in whatever crypto, we've seen a lot of people that lost money in gold or whatever. Don't give up. Even if you start a business venture and it fails miserably and you end up with debt instead of profit, don't give up. Keep your principles, keep your skill set, keep trying and you will come out ahead. Like Abd al Rahman IBN Auf Radian, who before his death, they would say he was one of the wealthiest people around. Imagine going from zero to being wealthier than people that hadn't even spent like you did.
Yeah. And actually, no, he went from zero to having money, to making hijra and going back to zero again, to building himself back up again and to being
higher than before hijra. Right. So it's not even just that. Okay, he came back up, he beat
his old score and that also proves it again. That's a great story for people who want to make hijrah and are afraid of what they leave behind. They're afraid. I have a nice house, I might be in a non Muslim country. It's difficult for me to practice my deen. But I have a house here. I don't know if I should go. I have a great job. And then we have an example where the Sahaba made Hijrah Subhanallah and from that lost everything and ended up having even more than he had before.
You know, I've got a friend myself personally. This is not like, you know, a story to somebody I know myself. He used to live in the US and he was raised in the US like I was. And he came from nothing like meaning. His family had come to the US during the war in Iraq. Even though he was a Palestinian living in Kuwait and so on, but because the Palestinians in Kuwait were not able to live there anymore. So they. His father was a professor, but he couldn't work in the US so he went to like working at a gas station. This friend of mine was living in an apartment with, you know, four or five people and his parents. Everybody together like brothers, sisters, you know. So it was very difficult. And he worked hard and he opened up a business. He had a 99 cent store. He was making very good money. So he came up and then he decided, I want to make hijra, I want to move to a Muslim country, I want to raise my daughters to memorize Quran and this and this and this. And he left the US and he moved to Jordan.
Okay. He left everything behind.
He left everything behind, sold his business, sold his properties, left everything behind. And people told him, you're crazy. You don't even know the business models over there. You don't know the environment over there. It's all about connection. You don't know people there. This, that, this, that Subhanallah he went and Allah blessed him that he has more stores than he did in the US and he has more property than he had and his daughters memorized the Quran and he's living a wonderful life financially he is stronger than what he
used to be and he also get all the ajaran and all the good
environment and hearing the adhan and going to the masjid for every salah and all of that that and on top of that even Dunya Wise is doing better.
Was that amazing? Allah
key line we need to make a shirt.
Yeah.
Show me the market
summary. Don't rely on money. Don't rely on capital. Don't rely on anything but Allah first and your skill set second. If you want to make money, don't expect handoffs. Work hard and ask show me the market and go make money. We'll see you in the next episode. Salam Alikum.
