How This Mother Taught Her Son to Speak in 4 Week

A mother used Ming's systematic home routines to help her 1.5-year-old son Zidane catch up on speech after pandemic-related delays. Within four weeks, he said his first clear word, "open," and started imitating and using words to communicate. She preferred Ming's active approach to local services and passive screen programs.

I was very, very happy when I first heard the word, you know, open. It was like almost tears in my eyes to hear him say after imitating me. Of course. I found it convenient to be honest. There was nothing difficult in the doing so and it was actually very encouraging to have the feedback. So whatever I'm going wrong, it's like talking to you daily one on one where I'm going wrong and that I'm going correctly. So it gives. It's not like just one time. I purchased a course and it's done and you do on your own. I don't know what I'm doing. So it's very. Actually helpful. And you respond quite early. I mean I get the responses so I'm kind of okay with it. I'm more than happy to be honest. No feedback there. Okay, that's great because the, what matters most is the review, like how we are doing it and you give it on the same day. So that's actually helpful. So before we do it for the next day, the routine, we know what we have to add or what we have to do it differently.
I wanted to ask you about like why. Why do you join our course? There must be. I. I know in Dubai there's a lack of speech therapy, but there are services. Right. So. So have you been to any speech therapy at the in Dubai?
No, not really. I actually no, I haven't. Like I just visited the pediatrician. I asked them like last year it was the same time December when Zidane was one and a half years old. So they told me to. It's okay for his age that he's speaking very less so. And plus he was born in a peak pandemic timing.
Yeah.
So they told me to get him enrolled to a nursery and hopefully he will improve. So I did get him enrolled last year itself in the nursery. So he learned a lot of discipline and every other stuff. But still from the speech point of view, there wasn't much progress.
Okay.
So I was, I generally tend to google a lot, so I was googling a lot. Then I came across your videos. I saw it on YouTube and it was very systematic. So. And plus it was something that you can do yourself at home. So I prefer putting my work more instead of putting my child to someone else's work. I mean just relying. I'm sending him there in just half an hour. And plus there are lot of. I have heard, I didn't really try to be honest but there is like appointment wise, there is just one appointment you could get and that too in a very, very long time in Dubai also.
Yeah.
So I thought let's first try on my own if I'm able to succeed or not. And if still I'm not, there is no much progress for him. Then I will go for an SLPL search and I'll take him there. So that is the whole story. So. But it worked really well so far.
Yeah.
One last thing I wanted to add because I google a lot how to help him improve and everything. So I also came across Ms. Rachel there's on YouTube.
Yeah.
She also helped him in imitation a lot before I actually found your account on YouTube. Before that he started watching me watching Ms. Rachel and few of the words he started like imitating from there as well, to be honest. But. But what he used to do was only in that duration he used to do not in communication. But after doing this, he. He's. I mean he is now regularly using it. That is something I wished for like he to be using those words in actual communication, which he was not doing before.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's right. Because that was from. To a screen, right?
Yes.
You have to generalize it to. To. To real life.
So he used to sing till 20. I mean not in clear, but he knows till 20 he's singing ABC. But actual. When it comes to actual communication, he was not using it in daily commun. But immediately after I started doing your routines, I saw a lot of difference. I mean he. Before that he wouldn't imitate me at all. He refused to imitate me. He is very, very moody kid. But after that with your techniques. Thankfully he's now imitating if I'm saying new words. Also he's trying to imitate me.
That's really good to hear. Okay. Yeah.
And I was very, very happy when I first heard the word, you know, open. It was like almost tears in my eyes to day. After imitating me, of course the biggest.
Improvement I see is not the words is that he's smiling so much at you and you're smiling at him and you're not scared of him anymore. You know? I know that's the biggest thing. It's like, okay, in the beginning, the.
First video versus I understand. I mean I used to. I. What my thinking used to be like, let's not irritate him. Let's not irritate him more into like dreaming. So that's why I used to say. But I understood this is not how it's gonna work.
Yeah, yeah. Because the function of the screaming is to manipulate you. So given to that function, it's not. It's teaching him to use it instead of talking.
Right, Understood. Actually, I understood it from the first feedback. It says it's not gonna work like this.
Yeah, I'm very happy. Some parents get. Take offense when I be too direct about it.
It's good to have a, I mean, third feedback. I mean from a third person point of view. It gives a clearer picture.
How's your, how's your husband in this whole equation? Is he like supportive? How. How does it feel when you made the purchase and, and going through everything?
Yeah, he's very supportive because we were too worried for him. We tried. I mean especially I, I'm more. Every time I was engrossed with thinking like how I could help him. How is it because of talking? So he's very supportive. But most, sometimes he's very, very busy also. So whenever he is available, he's the one who is recording. He's the one sitting down there. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But sometimes he's also very busy. So I make sure, however busy I am, I'm on a holiday, no matter and where what. I will do it no matter how. So we went on a holiday. I packed his stuff separately so we don't miss it. We don't create a. Because I want him to be talking anyhow. I don't want him to be like struggling while he grew up. His peers are talking. It is going to impact him if he's not picking now.
Yeah.
I was very, very worried and I can't thank you enough. I mean, such a relief to me to hear him speak, to be honest. Really, at times I, I, you know, I even cry. I'm a Muslim by religion. I pray also a lot for, specifically for him for his speaking part. Plus I'm doing whatever I can. So I'm just very, very hopeful. The way it is going. It's very systematic and I can see an improvement. And I'm hoping that now it. We are on the right track. We found right track finally.
Excellent. Very good. Okay. I'm very happy to hear that. You know, like your husband is on board with everything that we're doing. So it's very, it's. I think it's a key success indicator when, when the, when the husband is very like supportive because 90% of the. Of the people are, are women. Right. Are. Are moms who are worried and finding stuff. So. Okay. All right, so I'm gonna, I'm gonna end this call now. Thank you so much for all your great feedback.
