Ming from Agents of Speech explains how to prepare an autistic child for speech therapy. Teach them how to ask for things, focus on what language skills they're missing rather than waiting for a diagnosis, and start early: sustained effort can change outcomes.
Chapters
The second thing you're going to teach is how to ask. If you want to understand this and you want to prevent your child from having severe autism, then you got to understand where your child's coming from a language standpoint, what they're lacking and not understanding from a social and also a language functions perspective and try to compensate that way there's a way for them to cope. You cannot prevent autism, but what you can do is to help that child who is already on the spectrum or not. If the language delayed in the beginning, don't care about the diagnosis just yet. Don't look into it, don't try to dig into it, don't think about why is my child like that? Don't think that. Just do. All right? And even if results are that your child is on the spectrum, it's not the end of the world. You can still habilitate your kid as long as you're willing to put in the hard work and putting full commitment and trying your best.
