Hey, this is ming Phu from agentsofspeech.com I'm a speech therapist and today I want to teach you how to teach your child to say mama. And the reason why I'm doing this is because basically I've been on some Facebook groups for speech and language delayed children. And I feel like a lot of the moms there, especially the new moms, the first time mothers or the first time dads, they feel very unhappy about a child unable to call mama. Right? And one of my clients, one of my clients, actually, the kid never called mom. The kid called the mother like the first name because of the language environment is like that. Everyone is calling the mother the first name. Therefore the child calls the mother by the first name, right? Or another one is like a child asks, call the mom biscuit. And that's just. They're not linking towards any emotion. They just think that the mom equals like biscuit. So therefore, I would like to make this video to like, tell you about my thoughts about teaching your child how to call mama. Because it's very important, okay? They have to understand that your role, your name is mom, not anything else. So first of all, I want you to understand that your child at this moment, if they're calling you biscuit or calling you Cookie or like pulling your hand or everything, they are treating you like a vending machine, okay? They think that by pressing some buttons on your body, they're gonna get what they want. So first of all, you have to teach them the gestures for calling you first. The appropriate way to actually press buttons or like ask for stuff is by tapping you. So I'll show a clip of my client noor of how we taught her son to say mama. Mama, Mama, Mama. And then, alright, as you see, in the beginning, Tenoy had to take her son's hand and pat her and say mama like a few hundred times. Okay? It needs to be a routine in the beginning. All right? Teach the gesture first, the tapping, and say mama as many times as possible so that they link between tapping and mom. And when you're teaching this, you have to tap in different places so that it doesn't necessarily mean like your hand is mama, like your thigh is mama, your head is mama. Just tap different places just to let him know that your whole body, it's your whole body, that's mama. And. And you want to keep on saying it at the right context, right? When they tap right when they want that thing, you change the hand and tap you. It's asking for permission as you can See, from the video, it started off with just the kid not caring at all to the kid automatically doing it, okay? And this is huge because nobody sees the work involved in teaching such a small thing. If you can incorporate this inside your routine right now, if you've been following our channel and you know that I like to sit the child down for like five to 10 minutes just to focus on some work, right? If you can work that into your routine. If you can do that, your child will say mama. In no time, your kid will say mama. It's a matter of time until he or she catches on. In that five to 10 minutes, you need to have high repetitions, meaning you've got to do it many, many, many, many, many, many, many times. The drill into the brain of your child that you are Mama. Okay? By tapping you, it means calling for you. And therefore, when you add the sound, they will understand. Hopefully, this will help you out.
