Ming shows how to help kids who fear haircuts. Start with dummy scissors to build comfort, then gradually introduce real ones. If a child panics, stop and soothe them with familiar routines instead of pushing through.

I've worked with several kids who are scared of scissors and razors. What we did was that we put them inside of the clinic room and we slowly expose them to the scissors. We use dummy scissors. You need to tell them that it's okay and just push them a little bit outside of their comfort zone every time and then reward them for it. Okay. So maybe they touch it and then finally you can touch it with scissors on a hair and use this. For any type of thing that your child is scared of and has anxiety towards, you can use this. What if they are already mad? Usually it's because of a few things. Number one is that it's a tsunami of emotions, right? Already very, very, very unhappy about the situation. And this fear is probably illogical because it doesn't make sense. It's just a past fear or something that they're rigid about that made them like that. So no amount of scolding or telling them what to do will work. So therefore, best choice is to remove them from the situation. Try to find a way to soothe them with something that they like and something that they have a routine with. You.
