Parent Coaching Open for Verbal Children and Above

Ming from Agents of Speech is reopening a paid parent-coaching program for kids who are verbal and requesting words. Parents submit daily videos of home practice and get personalized feedback via Telegram. Ming plans to eventually release most courses free and build a searchable community platform.

All right. Hi, everyone. Going live here to talk about an announcement that we are. We're doing. So what is happening is that the parents coaching is now open again. So previously we called it the membership, although, like, it caused some sort of a lot of confusion about what a membership is. So. So if you want to know the details, you can click the link in the description, which goes to an unlisted YouTube video. You can look at all the details there. And during this live, I will take questions from parents about this whole program and I'll also answer some questions for you. So the reason why we're opening up and we haven't been open for like nearly two years, I'm not sure when's the last time we opened for a very long time. All right. It's because Agents of Speech is going into a way and into a direction where it's more about coaching you. All right? It's easy to sell you a course. It's easy to get you to watch videos. But what the real problem is doing it, right? And it's. It's really easy to be honest, like, it's the best job in the world because I don't have really have a job. All I got to do is to make more videos that teach you something and put it on the Internet and, and ask for money for. From it or do a workshop or do a live. That's a zoom. A zoom call that's like three hours long and I charge a sum, right? Do it. Do a parent talk and I'll make my living like that. But I don't think that's the best way for you to learn, right? It's not the best way. I give you the most support. The best support I can give is something what I call video review. And that's coaching. How do we do this is after you watch instructions or we lay out a plan for you. What you got to do is to start video recording how you're doing it and send it to us over the Internet. Okay. And I'm assure you it's going to be safe, it's going to be secure. And everyone who is inside of the group has been very respectful throughout the three or four years that I've been doing this already. And so the reason why video feedback is the best is because actually that's how I learned a lot of my therapy skills, is the video myself. And then have my. Have myself and my supervisor watch it at the same time. Because the problem that, let's say if you're a dancer, right, it always Helps to have a mirror whilst you're dancing. But the problem is this, right? You don't have a mirror. When you are doing therapy, a lot of times you always have a plan, right? Like going into anything, you always have a plan. You write it out or whatever. Or when I talk about it here to you, it's very simple. I tell you, yo, do this, do that. But the problem is that you cannot. You can always go into a, you know, a fight with a plan until you get punched in the face, right? Like, that's what Mike Tyson said. And it also. It also resonates with doing therapy because you can have a really cool therapy plan. But at the end of the day, when you go inside of the room or you get your child to come over, the first thing he does is like, snatches your thing. Your whole plan's over, right? But the problem is that you must plan or else you're planning to fail. I'm sure you heard of this a lot of the times, like, all over the place. No matter about, like, whether it's about speech therapy or whatever or whatnot, right? So that's the biggest thing I want you to understand, right? What I want you to understand is if you don't have feedback, if you don't have feedback about doing a certain skill, it's much harder to master that. And you think you're doing it correctly, but you're not. So that's what the video feedback is all about. And inside, like right now, inside of our telegram group, which is paid, all these are paid services. We're not doing anything for free simply because it takes up our time. And, you know, like, time is not refundable. So that's why this is paid, all right? And I'm sure that, you know, there are some people who are like, oh, my God, Ming, I can't believe you're not doing this for free. And, like, you're doing for free, yada, yada. But the thing is, this is a job, right? This is my profession. So I do this for a living. And right now, inside of the group, right, we get around, like, five to six videos a day. And I go in and I look at the videos and I watch it together. I watch it myself. I video my own response. I create a video, basically, and I also type some notes for the parents, and I put these notes inside of my own recording and also share it with the parent. And so what this does is that it keeps a record for on my end. And I also know it's takes around for now from my understanding, it takes around five to six solid videos for me to know this parent is for real, right? Because a lot of times when I'm teaching, right, it's all fun and games and they're like, oh my God, learn so much, right? But it seems like parents never do anything about it and I only want to service those who do something about it, right? It's very easy. If you look around all the speech therapists online, right? They're always selling a course, they're doing YouTube videos, they're selling like an app, like speech bulbs or whatever, or Gemini, you can check those out. I just, I freely talk about it. It's not like I'm, I'm poo pooing on them. I'm just saying that, yeah, there's a place in time for that. But I'm not an expert about that. I only know what I know, which is from what we got results out of. The best results I got was talking to parents, getting videos from them, sometimes hopping on a zoom call with them, going through videos together, understanding what the situation is given. I have context, get them to try some things. And then when I asked the parents to try things, then I have data to support whether this is like this is going to work or not, right? And as I get more data and more and more, I use that data to help other parents, right? Use the videos, use the. No, like the whole eight week program that we were talking about, now it's closed. The whole thing came about by teaching parents over the Internet. There's no point using what therapists know to teach, to teach parents. The reason why is because a lot of times when we get our education, it's more about theory, right? But what is that? That we can distill into like a single action step, actionable step that I can tell you and you do and you will understand a whole lot of things, right? That's what we always think about when we're teaching children, right? That's one thing, one activity that can target multiple things and get them to understand something. But no one breaks it down for parents. You see a lot of things over the Internet, right? Some people say, oh, you need to do it very naturalistically. And you know, like a lot of the times if you watch like one of the very good YouTube videos, like YouTube channels. I forgot her name already, sorry. That's the speech therapist who goes, who has a podcast even. She's really good. But the thing is, how good, how, how well can you try her techniques without any feedback, right? It's Let me give you an example. So a couple weeks ago, apparently I was like, I'm stuck on this thing. I listen to you do this and I see the parents on the telegram group. They're all moving forward and I'm stuck here. Why is it like that? And then, so we go into the videos one by one, and I send her video feedback. I tell her, I look, it's because you're prompting the wrong hand. It's because you're sitting too far from him and that the table's too close to you guys. So he has an opportunity to climb on it, get rid of those. Right? Is it going to work? Right? Just like that? Sometimes, yes. Just a small tweak, right. There was a parent who was like, oh, my God, make like. Just because I changed the hand that I was prompting her with, I got a lot further than I wanted to. Right. Than I expected I would say, right? So sometimes it takes multiple iterations, right? If you take away a table, then he starts climbing on the sofa. Then when they take care of the sofa, sometimes he would headbutt the mom, right? Why is he headbutting the mom? Because the mom's putting her face too close to the kid. Right? Get rid of the distance. We're always thinking about and iterating and giving feedback. Right. A lot of times when I'm sharing things over the Internet as a class, right. There's not enough nuance. You know, it needs to be. It needs to give. It needs to give the parent specific advice. And I can't do this just in an online course, right? And obviously some parents will just say, like, oh, what do you suggest? My kid is like this. What do you suggest? It talks about? Blah, blah, blah. Well, I don't know. I don't know. What, what do you want me to suggest? Right? Do you want me to tell you about how to, how to do like, for instance, how to put, like, words together. That's easy, that's step by step. But the thing is, when you're doing it, do you even know what, what kind of like, things you're doing that are making the child stressed? Right. Or which part of the whole activity that was not fun? Right. Just now I had a parent who was doing quite a good job and, you know, she was telling me I didn't want to post in the group because every time, you know, the videos I send you, sometimes I have to threaten my kid and say, look, if you don't do this, I'll leave. And it's a very Asian thing. And so she said, oh, it's a very Asian parenting style. Should I use it on my kid? I'm like, there's no point. And threatening a kid during therapy, right? Or doing work or studying or whatnot. There's no point. It's not about Asian or not. There's just no point, right? If, if you think about, from an authority point of view, you're using your authority and putting your love on a condition. That's what I told it, right? So it's okay, it's. It's okay if the child actually likes the task enough to keep on going without a reward. But if you're like putting your power and authority over a kid to make him or her do your bidding and at the same time, every time he loses his focus and like, doesn't want to do it and become too lazy or whatever, and you try to threat that person, that's not going to work, right? So I think in this, in this live, the title is far too official. Anyways, I'll keep on going so that I'll get people starting to watch or whatnot. But I think if I go on live tomorrow, I'll probably change the title of this. So this is. The coaching is open. You must understand that all the parent just now had to do was just to give a reward at the end, that's all. And she thought she was stuck forever and she wasn't. And it takes someone from the outside a third eye to look at it, right? And you might say, oh, it's not about me or whatever. It's just that I've been doing this for quite some time now. I've been teaching parents over the Internet for what, four years now, right? And I've learned how to become a better coach. And that's why this year I made the hard decision to not take any more physical clients. After Covid. After Covid hit, I think really like there was a huge opportunity to just jump online and do whatever because I couldn't see any kids, right? But now there's an opportunity now, right? And I was sharing on my email newsletter that, you know, there's loads of different opportunities because now I have somewhat of an online presence. People are asking me to do things and me five years ago would be very happy, you know, like opening a clinic, become a clinical director or whatever, become a senior therapist. Seeing, seeing kids again, having a full schedule, you know, all these are great, but I feel like the only way that we're going to leave a mark in this industry and teaching parents all over the world is to do this, right? There's no other way at this moment in time, really. I'm not going to go on tour, you know, like those Netflix series, and say, oh, I'm going to teach kids one by one. I'm not going to do that. So. And I want this whole thing to become a legitimate educational business, right? I want it later on to be that people can apply for an educational sponsor to get trained as a parent, right? So that they can do it on their own at home and they don't need and require any, like, funding from, from themselves. And the only way to become a legitimate educational business like this is to collect data. And the only way to collect data is to do as much work as I can and collect as much videos and to have as many, as many testimonials, as many people saying that this works so that I can hire more people to do the thing that I'm doing right now and make it better and have more resources online and making it free at the end of the day, right? That is my, that's my goal. But at this point in time, that's impossible, right? So that's why I've made this whole online thingy, right? So now the parent coaching is open. I want you to, if you're watching this, go down to the description and click on the unlisted video. All right? Watch that. Listen to me talk about what it is all about, how it works, how much it costs. And then at the, at the description box of that unlisted video of that private video, there is going to be a place where you can apply. There's a form to apply. I want you to go through that form one by one, slowly and tell me what, what's it about? And there's also a part where you upload a video that is essential for the application. So I want you to show me how it is right now that you're doing what you're doing at home already. How are you teaching your kid, right? When the kid wants something, how does, how does he, he or she say something, right? Show me all those things. Show it to me so that I can, like, I can see what's going on and tell you if it's a good fit or not, right? And if it is, then, you know, by all means join. If not, then don't join, right? Because the biggest problem I had before was that people joined, paid and didn't do anything about it. I didn't like that at all, to be very honest with you. I would love your Money. Right. Don't get me wrong. It's. It's my. It's my. Like, it's what I do. But if I'm gonna be like a commercial German and harp on the. On the. On the fact and hope and pray that people won't show up and I earn money, that's not cool. So as I was saying, I'm trying to. I'm trying to build something that is that we have enough evidence and data that we can use later on to become a legitimate educational institute. Right. So it's kind of like the Hannah program. Right? So that's. The Hannah program is great. You know, like, different podons are great. They all have something in common, is that they have data to back it up. So. And they also have, like, people who have gone through the program as experts to help parents. Right. So I'm not looking to go all the way, like, into, like, turn it into an expert or whatever. Right. But we don't need that. What we need is, like a community of parents who are willing to provide data in a private setting, go through the training, share the goals that we were doing, and then we can think about where to go from there. All right? So I think that's. That's not a lot to say. There's not a lot of people online now because basically the whole title is like, the coaching's open, come join. Right. And obviously by now people are knowing, oh, this is gonna be like, paid or whatever. That's why not a lot of people are. Are really that interested at this moment. So, Kuyan, what's up? Yeah, trying to get there. It's gonna take some time, right? Gonna take some time. And at this moment, if you have any questions, just let me know here. Even if the end. The. The live has ended, I will still look through the comments and let you know. Okay. I'll try my best. So other than that, let me just tell you one last thing before I go. And it's this, right? The whole coaching thing is probably later on going to be the only way that we make money. And the reason why is because I feel like courses are great courses or whatever. They're all good and stuff, but it doesn't bring the parent any closer to. It doesn't bring the parent any closer to the goal. Right, Kuyan? Yes, of course. I don't mind. Share it as much as you want, right? Share everything. I don't care. Share it. It's even better. You're doing me a favor. Right? Go do it. Yeah. So coaching is something that is keeping you accountable as a parent. Why? Let me tell you why. So everyone knows how to get fit. Everyone knows how to lose weight. Everyone know how knows how to become healthier, right? All you got to do is just basic, right? Don't eat so much, move more, right? That's all. But why do gym gyms exist? Why do personal training exist? Why do nutritionists exist? They keep you accountable. They tell you something, that all this information is online and all you have to do is take the time to read it. And then taking action is the hardest step, right? I'm telling you that in this year, 2023, my goal is to keep as many parents accountable as possible. I just sent out an email about this whole thing and then some parents are like, oh my God, it's is open again. I'm kind of lost about what video to send you because last time we talked was this. I haven't done anything. I don't like that, right? I mean, like, I understand that people have lives going on and stuff, but at the same time, you have to put this as a priority, right? If you're not putting this in a priority, then, you know, it's better that you don't join. That's even better, right? So you have to remember that most of the time I'm just keeping you accountable, right? Giving you feedback. But you need to show up. If you don't show up, the person who suffers the most is yourself. It's not even your kid because you're gonna, you're gonna sit there and feel so guilty all the time. I have some, like, some parents who buy courses and they never log in. Like I just pull up the numbers right now, 75% around.75% buy and don't log in. How. How do we become an educational institute like that, right? And but then for the coaching stuff, right? More than 7065 have longed in. Yeah, there's a lot of like just because number one, they pay more, number two, they have to send videos. And it's been like has been communicated to them already, right? And as a matter of fact, from what I'm seeing here is like, parents who Send More than 4 videos Keep on sending and they get better results, right? So all I got to do here is to get you to take one more step at a time and send me more videos over and over and over again. Obviously there are going to be cases that are going to be difficult, but it's better than keeping your arms crossed, reading stuff on your phone and watching videos and think about what if Right. Well, maybe you don't need to do anything and your child's gonna get better. Maybe it's that even if you do a lot, it would be the same as you doing nothing. Right. But never has anyone said that the more you do, the worse it becomes. Never. Right? So I think that's all I wanted to share today, and that's a bit about it. I'll talk. I. I'll probably go live again tomorrow to talk more about specific learnings I had during the. The coaching stuff I've. I've been doing. Right. Let me know in the comments. Any questions you have. Doesn't need to be within the parents community thing, the. The coaching thing, but the way that we're gonna do it from now on is that all the information will be free. All the information, as much as we can. Sometimes I'm not. The reason why some of the information is behind a course and you have to pay is because I want you to watch it. It's very dry, you know? It's dry. You know, if I talk about what's a phonological disorder, you're gonna. You're gonna fall asleep. I want you to pay so that you'll pay attention. Right. But I'm just gonna make it free at the end of the day, if it's something that is not. So, like, if I tell you to do something, I hope that I can see it and know that you're doing it correct. Instead of I tell you to do it, you do it, and you're like, dude, it doesn't work and you stop doing it. Right. There needs to be context. So that's all for right now, and I hope that this message gets to you. You watch the video at the end of, you know, like, the video inside of the unlisted on the unlisted YouTube video, which is in the link in the description of this one. So it's like, it's a little bit Inception, you know, I'm saying, like, there's a video within this video, and watch that and you'll know what to do. Right? So, Kuyan, I'm strict and straight coach. I. I'm not that strict, but, you know, like, yeah, yeah, you don't need to log in and watch the things, Koyan, that are not applicable to your kid yet. Right. You need to be like, a lot of times when you're learning something, it's all about just in time, you know, Just in time. You don't have to do the things that you have to do. Like, you don't have to watch the things that you don't. Haven't reached yet. All right. Charlene. Hi. It's been some time, right, since we chatted. So what are some good tips to stay on task on summer kids out of the routine. Summer is like always difficult, I think, like, you really have to think about what is the one thing you want to do with your kid, right? Just choose one thing. Yeah, my son don't do well out of school routine. Yeah. So it's, you know, when, when someone loses a routine. I'll talk about my, about my dad here. It's not about like a person is. It's not about if a person is autistic. On the spectrum. ADHD or whatever is someone that has had a routine and requires a routine, and they like a routine. If you don't have a routine for them, they're gonna go nuts, right? Like my dad when he first retired, literally, it was quite hectic when he retired. So about all this, right? You gotta understand when a person requires a routine, you need to give a routine. So, so therefore, during summer, you should have a summer routine. You should craft one. And if you go online, right, if you go online and take a look on Google and you write something like rehabilitation schedule, right? Or like rehabilitation routine or like a day in the life of like, you know, like just rehabilitation in general. It doesn't matter what kind of rehabilitation you're talking about. There's always going to be a timetable. So for I remember, your son is a little like, little more mature, right? So it's best that you have a visual schedule for him for what he's supposed to do during summertime, right? I want to go out more and stay active as well as. Okay, so you might want to fix a schedule that has in. In categories and you can swap out the activities, right? Yeah, I remember that. Something, something along those lines around like teenage years, right? So in the morning, it's always that morning routine, right? For breakfast, if he cooks the breakfast himself, make sure that he knows what he's doing. Even cooking breakfast could be part of the routine. Making a coffee for you is part of routine. Don't think that it's always you trying to serve him, right? Think about how you can tell him to do something and that serves as a routine to serve you, right? So making breakfast, cooking, whatever. If you live in a western country and you have a garden, maybe mowing the lawn, mowing the plants, you know, have him do things that are productive as well, that are, that are like. That makes sense within the House, right. And. And later on you can have, like, in the afternoon, you can have a slot for activity of which he can choose out of, like, a bunch of options, like going to the mall, going for, like, I don't know, rollerblading, swimming, whatever. And he can just swap it in whenever he wants because he's a little older. So for younger children, we always, like, just help them with it. But for more mature kids, if you give them a choice, they think that they have a lot of freedom and they actually like it. So. So, you know, like, you can try that and make sure that he's. He's also, like, thinking about, like, the lunch and the dinners that he's cooking. If he likes cooking, that is. Right? So, yeah, you just need a timetable for him and to keep him on schedule. And you should always have, like, around two, half an hours that you're teaching him something. No matter what it is. Like, it could be read the book, could be some math, could be whatever. Do something with him on the. At the table. Just table time for 30 minutes two times a day, right. Other times he can. He can arrange it. You can arrange it for him. You know, there's a time for TV or whatever. Even. Even that's fine, right? So, yeah, the only way I can tell you if this is going to work if. Is if you try it and you let me know. And that's why we have the parent coaching thing, right? So that I can keep tabs on what's going on. And it's, you know, like, sometimes I go on live and it's just all over the place. Like, someone asks me, yo, remember, like, two weeks ago you told me to do whatever. I'm like, no. First of all, I'm not. Like, we don't have a lot of followers, but if you go to, like, the Facebook messenger thing, it's just like, there's a whole bunch of stuff on messages that I. I can't keep up with. Like, emails. Wow. Don't even talk about the emails. I'm very thankful for it. YouTube comments again, loads of them. So my only way of grasping it is that what we're going to do now is we're gonna make another community that is not a Facebook group. And it's going to be another platform that's going to be free, right? All the, all the FAQs, all the, all the things will be searchable there. We have a community manager there will delete all the posts that parents are saying that are irrelevant. Like people basically saying, oh, like saying, oh, I Have stuff to sell or whatever. Like you don't have those, like Facebook lives to share. Like this one, like this one. Just share onto that, the groups, right? So we want to make that. And make that the main hub where parents can get in touch with us, right? So you can check that out later on. I think like in July we're going to kickstart that and then all the, all the courses and stuff will go inside. Most probably all the courses there will be free to some extent. And we just want to have a place where we call home. And there's going to be a mobile app for that that links that community and you can watch things, you can search things, you can ask questions. We can create geographical groups inside that, you know, like just chapters. Like those, you know, what do we call, like fraternities? Like those, those kind of like business groups. Like we have for chapters, like we might have an agents of speech Malaysia chapter, right, Like Koyan. And then we have resources there, like readings for Malaysian people, you know, readings for UK people, you know, like resources for whatever. And then we have links about all the, all the toys and whatnot. And like what I want is like, oh, I've finished using this toy, I want to send it to someone and you can do it in that, that free community, right? And if you're okay with all the free stuff, you learn all stuff and you want more coaching, you can upgrade and pay money, right? You can ask for a help and then that's where you can get the instructions step by step laid down to the T. Right? Because we don't want to give that out for free. Because what's going to happen is people are going to do it and they think it sucks because it doesn't work the first time. Even in the paid group, people are doing it the first time. They don't send videos. When they send it, they're doing it totally wrong. They're doing it absolutely, incredibly wrong. And they're like, what's going on? How come it's not working? And then I'm gonna say watch the instructions again. Look at what, how people are doing it inside the group. Yeah, and then it gets better, right? So I think that's all for tonight. It's been 30 minutes somehow rambling. I'll probably go live again tomorrow just so that I get all bases covered by the same time. Let me know any questions here. Check out the, the YouTube link in the comment section, right? Watch that video. Watch another 17 minute ramble from me about the details of the parent coaching. If You're. If a child is not yet verbal, don't join that. Okay? Don't join. It's only for verbal and above, right. If verbal and above, they're using words to. For requesting without any prompts. Okay, you can join. And that's when we can also put a lot of. We also put a lot of emphasis in teaching speech sounds. So that's where we're gonna do a lot more like speech training, like pronunciations and stuff. Yeah. So I think that's it for now. And yeah, I'm just really grateful about all the things that has been happening. I'm very happy that the membership, although we haven't opened it in like two years and a bit maybe, and now, like, we still have parents there. Kuyan's one of them. Shout out to her who are working tirelessly with their children, you know, and right now we're changing it and putting it on Telegram first. But we're not gonna, we're not gonna stay on Telegram forever. Right. As the group gets bigger, you know how like big WhatsApp groups or whatever, they get really cluttered and it goes like boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. Like, just keeps on going. We don't want that. Right. But at the same time, we're also thinking about how to make it a very good experience for everyone. So if you're looking for free things, the free community off of Facebook, off of YouTube, off of whatever, on our own platform that we can control, will be available in July. All right. And in July, we will put the majority of courses that we use to sell there for free. Right. Because I'm saying this, it's gonna hurt my sales. I don't care anymore. I'm just gonna put it there for free. And if you bought the courses before, what's. What you can do with the, with that? Obviously it's not fair for you. Right? But if it's not fair for you, then you can use that money that you paid me before. Paid us before, and you can get a discount on the coaching. Right, fair enough. Right, fair enough. So that's, that's what we've been doing for the eight week program. There were discounts on all the coaching that people like for course buyers before. Right. So hopefully, you know, like, agents of speech is always about transparency. There's nothing hidden under the rug. Because I just, I just don't like being shady. Hopefully I don't have to say that because like, sometimes, you know, you get, you get some, some emails saying, is this a scam? I paid for this course. I never got the like a password. Well sometimes you have to check your spam and sometimes you can press forgot password right and sometimes you even set your password yourself so so it's not like it just feels strange to me. Right. So that's why I would personally think that it's better to provide a high touch service much rather than making a course and just selling it and just, you know, just sitting there receiving money and answering emails. That's not the life I want certainly. I don't know if being coached or like having to send videos to me is a is a life that you want but my cat just turned off my light. But anyways that's all for tonight. I hope to see you guys very soon and get videos from you guys to see if you're a good fit for the, for the training for the. For parent coaching and that's it really? I said that's it for five or six times already so good night guys.
