A short advice video by Ming @ Agents of Speech addressing parental concerns about child language milestones. Ming recommends waiting until age two for a full speech and language assessment, and advises parents of younger children to focus on language-facilitation techniques (learnable from online speech-therapy resources) rather than immediate formal testing.

So milestones is something that us therapists, we look at and use every day. And parents do go online and check milestones. So there are general guidelines and there are also detailed milestones on the Internet. And sometimes it's not the best idea for parents to look into it and drill into it. So I have parents coming at me and asking me, ming, my child can do this, can do that. Inside of this website, it says this and that. To answer you this question, I'll just tell you what has been working for us as an online parent coaching company. And I'll tell you that first of all, any child below 2 years of age, you should wait until 2 to do a full speech and language assessment. Any time your child is not yet at 2 years old and you see that there's a delay, the best thing that you can do is to do a lot of language facilitation techniques of which go on YouTube and listen to other speech therapists. Doesn't need to be me. Learn about what language facilitation is, okay?
