Ming from Agents of Speech teaches kids with language delays to say what they need instead of acting out. When sensory overload hits, teach them phrases like "I need fresh air" or "I don't feel comfortable" to replace hitting, kicking, or covering their ears.

We can teach the child to cope. So what I did before was I would teach verbal. We're talking about maybe primary school, secondary school students. We tell them, if you feel sensory overload, you need to voice it out and tell other people. That's how you stop that from happening to you. Again, you tell them, hey, I don't feel that comfortable right now, or I need to wash my face. Or you might say something like, excuse me, I just need some fresh air. Whatever it is, use that as a coping mechanism that is socially acceptable. Instead of kicking stuff, instead of starting to be angry. Slapping people. There are other ways to get out of a situation, and these usually for language. Delayed or disorder. People or children, they tend to have a bad time.
