Why Do Therapists Lose to Parents | www.AgentsOfSpeech.com/checklist

Ming explains why parents beat therapists at teaching speech: kids spend most time at home, so learning sticks. Therapy is limited and stops, but parents can practice constantly. He estimates parents handle about 80% of speech problems when they're trained and involved.

Hey, this is ming here from agentsofspeech.com in this video, you will learn why you as a parent have an unfair advantage over me as a therapist in teaching your child communication and speech and language. Right. And the first thing I want to talk about is, you know, learning never stops. Learning never stops because your child spends most of their hours at home, especially right now when we're all in lockdown, okay? So if learning never stops, we spend most hours at home. We would want our house, our home, be a very good place for your child to learn. Another thing is children actually learn a lot from their parents, most of them from parents. So if I see children who are very attached to videos, to iPads, to nannies, so on and so forth, Actually, I see. It's my observation that the parent heavily depends on the phone, heavily depends on the nanny. And guess where the child actually learned it from? Probably from the parent, right? I'm not saying that it's you, but you have to keep that in mind because that's a pattern that I'm observing because children are always observing. So you have to be careful about what you do say and how you act at home, all right? Try not to be too reliant on therapy, okay? The fact is, therapy will stop. Therapy will stop whether you want it or not. Just like right now, because of the coronavirus, we've been forced to stay at home. And a lot of therapy centers like myself have already closed the doors so that we're being responsible. Right? Another thing is, even if, even if therapy centers still continue to open, everything's back to normal again. Therapists will leave, okay? They will leave. And you know, because life gets in the way. They get married, they have children, you know, they start their own businesses, they change career, you name it. There's a lot of things that will happen in a person's life and you cannot, as much as you want to rely on them. You cannot guarantee that they will stay with your child forever, Right. Let alone a few years. And the other thing is, even if they do, you cannot bring them home anyways. And as I said, as we were discussing, home is where you spend most of your time. Yeah. And the last point I want to talk about is parents are the best therapists and there are a few reasons to it. Number one is that you spend the most time with your child. As I told you, right? You're the go to person, especially if you're a stay home mom, right? And right now is that you spend 24 hours with them, okay? If you Include the sleeping time, which you also need a monitor and stuff. Right. As a therapist, when I teach children, I feel like when I involve the parent, when I teach the parent, it solves 80%, 80% of the problems. And this is just a figure that I. By feeling. Right. It really is. It solves a lot of problems. I give, I do something, I demonstrate it. I let the parents try it in the therapy room. They go back. After a week, they come back, whoa, the child has improved. And guess who's responsible for it? You. Right? So it does solve a lot of problem when the parent knows what to do at home and. And how to do it. Okay? So if you're in therapy right now, please try to sit in. Please try to sit in and listen and learn. Okay. The last part is where I go a little bit deeper about why I feel like you're. You're much better than I am. And that's because you love your child more than anyone else in the world, including your therapist. Including, like, for me, with my students. Right. As much as I like to think that I really love doing my work, there's no one that can replace you. Right. Does that sound correct? So when that's the case, it's more of a, you know, it's more that the parents should learn to do these things at home because no one will do it better than you, because no one loves your child more than anyone else. Right. So with that said, thank you very much for tuning in in this video. If you haven't, please like this video. If you. If you found it useful, please give a thumbs down if you thought it was not that great. Give me some feedback, give me some questions about what you want me to cover, what you want to be answered in future videos down below in the comment section. And other than that, please also go to www.agentsofspeech.com checklist. It's a free gift from me. It's a checklist for all the tools and toys, the basic stuff that I recommend parents have before they start their home therapy right now. Okay. And it's a good time to do it. Do you got a lot of time on your hands? I know you're very busy with, with the kids running around and everything and also working from home. But it's also a good time when they're sleeping. It's the time that you sharpen your. Your sword is the metaphor so that you know how to do things when. When they wake up. Right. When you're always ready and prepared. Okay. And as a parent as an educator, as a caregiver, as a therapist. Now because I'm hand the torch to you guys because I can't do it anymore at this moment in time is that you have to keep on improving yourself. Okay? So with that said, go to www.agentsofspeech.com checklist. The link is also in the description below. And I hope to see you guys in the next video really soon. Bye.
