Ming (Agents of Speech) explains that conventional clinic-based speech therapy — intensive, toy-filled 30–40 minute sessions that push children to speak a lot — is stressful for children. He notes children often become exhausted after sessions and parents may blame themselves when progress isn't maintained at home. Ming argues parents cannot realistically recreate the high-pressure clinic environment at home and that home should instead be a low-stress space to avoid making children upset.
