Are You Living In Captivity

Matt Morris uses a dolphin-in-captivity story to argue you should leave your job for entrepreneurship and travel. It took him five years to go full-time. He encourages visiting 100 to 200 countries and building a location-independent life.

Hey, Matt Morris@mattmorris.com in Moorea for the second day. And you can probably see the dolphin behind me. We came over to the Intercontinental from the cruise ship to hang out here, do some kayaking. They have a turtle sanctuary, a little dolphin encounter here. And you know, it's funny, I'm watching this dolphin. There's three of them spread out in here, and I just saw one of them jump. And it was a huge jump. I mean, went a long way. Easily could have, you know, jumped over the railing here. And once you get over the railing, there's another little area that they could jump over and they could get to freedom. Now, chances are these dolphins, they have been in captivity so long, you know, who knows, maybe they couldn't even survive in the wild. But, you know, these dolphins are, I think, a lot like people in captivity. You know, most people stay in their little confined space here. They stay in captivity their whole life. I mean, they work their job, they traffic, they fight traffic them to and from work every day. They take their, you know, two, three weeks vacation a year. They, you know, live paycheck to paycheck. Maybe they get a little bit ahead. But, you know, most people are about six months away from bankruptcy if they were to lose their income. And, you know, if you look over here, I mean, these dolphins, they have the capacity to jump and to get out to freedom, but they don't because they don't believe they can. They don't. They're scared of what it would be like on the other side. And, you know, some of you watching this, if you're in network marketing, maybe you're a little scared of, you know, what is it like on the other side? What's it like to have to, you know, earn your income 100% based off your own efforts where, you know, when you're in captivity, you have the safety of your job, you have the safety of a paycheck, you have the safety of a boss telling you what to do. So you, you know, it's a little bit of a risk, right? And so here's the whole point is you have the ability, you have what it takes to jump out to freedom. You got everything it takes. You can make the jump, but you hold yourself back because you're not really sure what it's like. And let me tell you, life is worth so much more than staying in captivity here. The freedom that you get when you get to travel all around the world. You know, we hike these one of these mountains yesterday, did a tour all around you know, getting to see the world because you've got no constraints on time or money. And the only way you get to have that freedom is to make the jump. And sometimes you may not make it all the way and, you know, you hit and you come back and it hurts. See, it took me about five years as an entrepreneur to make it full time, but, you know, so I missed the jump a few times. But gosh, if you just keep jumping over and over and over, eventually you get to freedom. And the freedom is so worth it. So look, my friends, don't spend your whole life in captivity here. Make the jump to freedom. Go see the world. Go. Go live your Life. Go see 100 countries around the world. Go see 150, 200 countries. I mean, go experience the cultures and everything that the world has to offer. May not be easy, but man, is it worth it. So listen, appreciate you tuning in.
