In this solo coaching video, certified high‑performance coach Alex addresses women professionals who feel unfulfilled despite corporate success. She explains the concept of "golden handcuffs"—the salary, 401k, bonuses, RSUs, benefits, and other perks that create a perceived sense of security but can also trap individuals in unsatisfying roles. Alex then outlines three practical steps to loosen their grip: (1) ask hard, introspective questions to uncover the root cause of the need for security; (2) imagine an ideal future using a "magic wand" exercise to visualize an exciting, fulfilling daily life; and (3) identify the skills, relationships, and changes needed to bridge the gap between the current situation and the envisioned ideal. Throughout, she encourages viewers to reflect, take incremental action, and reach out for personalized coaching support.

Do you feel bound by the golden handcuffs of corporate? If so, stay tuned because I'm going to give you 3 things that you can do to start to loosen the grip that the golden handcuffs may have on you so that you can actually live a life and have a career that is fulfilling and that's going to leave the legacy that you want to live. So don't go anywhere. I'm Alex, your certified high performance coach, and I help women who feel feel unfulfilled despite their success, to clarify what it is that they truly want and make lasting changes in their lives so they can create an impactful and meaningful legacy. So let's start with the basics. Golden handcuffs. I don't know if you've heard the term, but it's a term that I used quite a bit when I was in corporate, and it's all of the things that come along with a corporate job that gives you that perceived sense of security and that perceived sense of certainty. And I say perceived because if tomorrow your employer decides that they no longer need you, it doesn't matter. You're going to find yourself out the door. So when I say the golden handcuffs are corporate, what's included in there is, aside from your salary, it's the 401k, it's the bonus, it's the restricted stock units, it's— if you're in sales, maybe you have a car, it's your benefits. It's all of those things that make it very difficult and very challenging to think about either walking moving away, or even just very simply changing jobs. So here are the 3 things that you can do to start to loosen the grip that the golden handcuffs may have on you. So we're not talking about breaking free, because that's a huge step, right? So we're just talking about starting to think about, okay, what can you do so that the golden handcuffs don't have as much of a grip on your life? So the first thing you need to do is ask yourself some hard questions. Why do you have that need for security and because at the end of the day, that's what the golden handcuffs are. They fill that desire and that need for security and for certainty. They certainly did for me. So getting to the root cause of why you have the need for certainty and security is really critical to start to dismantle some of the stories that you might have been telling yourself that could be a result of experiences that you've had along the way. So getting to really understand the foundation for why you're feeling that need for security is really the first step in starting to break up that pattern a little bit. The second thing that you can do is once you've identified, you know, what the root cause is and you can start working on that, it's start to imagine a better future for yourself, right? You don't have to be in the box that you're in. You don't have to stay doing the things that you're doing. You can open up the visors or the blinders and think about, okay, you know what, if I had a magic wand today and I could just choose whatever I wanted, what would I do? And through that exploration, you know, you start to see that there are other possibilities out there. You have skills that you can use and that are transferable to, you know, other careers or other organizations, whatever the case may be. But really understanding, like, okay, like I said, if I had a magic wand What would I do? And start to picture what does my ideal day look like if I were to show up every day excited, eager, and really like ready to take on the world? What does that day look like? How does it start? What am I doing in the morning? How am I finishing the day? What happens in, you know, in between? Really to start to get you excited about the possibilities because you start to see an alternative to whatever it is that you're experiencing in your current situation. And then the third thing is, if there's a gap between where you are and when you want to be, figure out, you know, what do you need to do to grow so that you can get closer to being able to be in, you know, in that ideal day. So what are skills that maybe you need to develop? Are there any relationships that are missing from your life that you need to nurture? Are there things that you need to let go completely so that you can make room for other things to come into your life that are going to serve you in breaking— eventually breaking free of whatever, you know, the, the hold that the golden handcuffs have on you? So those are the, the 3 things that I wanted to share with you. If you are in a place where you are asking yourself questions and you want to talk and see if there's a way that I can support you in getting rid of your, or starting to loosen your personal golden handcuffs, let me know in the comments.
