A woman describes how the hardest part of her divorce wasn't the split itself but grieving the life she'd imagined. She found relief by throwing herself into work, reinventing who she was, and surrounding herself with independent women who showed her how to live alone.

I thought the hardest part of my divorce was going to be to tell him that I was done, but I was wrong. The hardest part was the grieving. It was the uncertainty, the grief over the things that would never come to pass, the children that I would never have, and the uncertainty of whether or not I would ever meet somebody else who would want to be with me. And there are 3 things that I did to help me to cope with that. And the first one is this: I became a rock star at work. Like, I was already performing well, but man, I went into overdrive. Drive because it helped me to not stay in that negative mindset but focus on something positive, something that I could build. The next thing was that I became super intentional about who I wanted to become. I looked at it as an opportunity to just recreate myself and rediscover really who I was and what I wanted to do, and I looked at it as an adventure. And the last thing was that I surrounded myself with really very strong women who were living life on their terms. So I had great role models. So I want you to know this: if you're going through a hard time right now, you don't have to have all the answers right now. All you need to do is keep putting one foot in front of the other and show up for yourself. Now, if you have a way that you can do that right now and you'd love to share, I'd love to hear your story.
