Contempt kills relationships. It shows up as sarcasm, eye-rolling, and disdain, usually when partners take each other for granted. Talk about it openly with your partner or get counseling before it poisons everything.
Chapters
Today I want to talk about a relationship killer, and that's contempt. Contempt is a deep feeling of disdain. It's something that shows up as sarcasm or eye rolling, and even that— you ever do that? And when contempt enters a relationship, it poisons the well and makes healthy communication nearly impossible. And the more you know someone, the more you take them for granted, and that's when contempt can come in really easily. So if you feel that contempt is coming into your relationship, take a pause, step back, reflect about where might this be coming from, what could be the cause, and talk about it with your partner. And if you feel like you're spinning your wheels, maybe it's time to talk to a counselor or a coach, because addressing this early in the relationship prevents from further damage happening.
