So I'm absolutely to be delighted to. Sorry, let's start again. Sorry. So I'm absolutely delighted to be joined today by Andy Nilo, who is the CEO and founder of Alatura Naturals Beyond Organic Skincare, which he founded after a major road accident in 2011. It was a completely life changing event and I've read your story and it's so, so inspiring. And I've been using Aloe tura myself for about three years now. So I'm absolutely delighted to have you on the. A very warm welcome to you here today.
Well, thank you so much for having me. I appreciate it. I love doing these. This is how it all started.
Yeah, I remember. Yeah. And it's amazing actually to have you here because it's always. I haven't done that much on skincare and it's when I have shared episodes on it, it's always super popular because everybody is on a quest, right, to look better, but they have to kind of cut through what's out there because as we were talking before, there are so many different chemicals and things in skincare that people need to be aware of. Before we kind of go down there and down that rabbit hole, tell us about your journey because it's a really inspiring story and you were an athlete and a model previously and then you had this life changing accident. Tell the listeners what happened there.
Yeah, so let's see. Yeah, I've been an athlete, like you said, all my life. Football, baseball, basketball, primarily baseball. I got a scholarship to UC Berkeley, played in the PAC 10, transferred to Sac State St. Mary's so I played in three different Division 1 schools. Kind of bounced around a little bit in baseball, had a draft party, didn't get drafted. Kind of was trying to find myself for a couple of weeks after I graduated from St. Mary's and you know, it kind of just was getting a little antsy around the house, you know, and I just was working at Abercrombie at the time. Abercrombie Fisher was an old, like 20 years ago or whatever. It was a clothing line that I'd work at in the off season. And so I just had that going for me. So I, you know, I had friends who lived down in Los Angeles, California, and. And I transferred to the Santa Monica store, the Santa Monica location. I was just crashing on a friend's basically on his couch. I had a little futon I brought with me down to la and I was working at Abercrombie, just kind of living the dream, just enjoying my summer, not really even knowing what I was going to be doing. And a friend of mine was an actor at the time, and he was auditioning for a baseball feature film called Great American Dream. And so I was running lines with him back and forth. Running lines mean, like, I'd play the character opposite of him and just kind of give him feedback. But it was a baseball film, and I was fresh out of baseball, so I was really. I was close to the game at that time, so I still am. But I was kind of just giving him a little critique and giving him critique on just how a ballplayer talks and what to do in certain situations. And I was kind of just picking, you know, when you don't really care too much, it's kind of. You just, you know, you're not. You don't overthink things. And I was just giving him really good feedback, and I was nailing his lines a little bit better than he was, kind of just giving him critique. And he was like, man, have you ever thought about doing this? And I'm like, well, no. I mean, I've never taken acting classes or anything like that. And so this never happens. But I didn't have any representation or anything like that. But he reached out to the director, took a quick little snapshot of me, and he got me an audition for the same role that he was auditioning for Danny. It was the lead in the film, actually, so I got. It never happens, by the way, if you don't have an agent or manager, you don't get submitted. So I got an audition, got a callback, another callback, screen tested, ended up booking that role, got filmed that for six weeks in Los Angeles and got representation after that and started acting for, like, up until. I mean, I'm still doing it. But that quickly came to an end. I mean, yeah, long. It was a. It was a fun career. It still is, but it's kind of. I just put it on the back burner. Obviously, now that I'm running Altura, the time is very limited. And I'm in Nevada, Henderson, Nevada, now. I'm no longer in Los Angeles. I moved here in June of 2020 during the pandemic, which is a trip, by the way. But, yeah, I mean, that's. Well, let's slow it up a little. Back in 2011, I was just, you know, I just ate dinner and I was crossing the street, looked down at my cell phone. I got hit by a westbound heading. Vehicle lost consciousness, and I got hit in the eastbound lane and then run over by Toyota Tundra. Both cars Pulled over. I remember getting my clothes cut off me in the middle of the street, barely. I was coming in and out of consciousness. I barely remember the ambulance ride to Cedars Sinai. Woke up in a ICU bed with my chin. It was a compound fracture, so I was like. Basically, I couldn't, like, really see it, but at the bottom of my chin right here, I can see, like, yeah, my bone popping through the bottom of my mouth. Had seven broken ribs, a collapsed lung, one of the worst maxillofacial fractures that the resident maxillofacial surgeon at Cedar Sinai had ever seen. And so we had to wait around for a little bit and get a private specialist to do surgery. I got a titanium plate put in up top, one on the bottom, and that was unrecognizable. I had a long road, road to recovery, and I couldn't afford the products and serums that the doctors and surgeons were recommending that I use to counteract my scarring and abrasions that were extensive at the time. So I just kind of. What I would do is I would isolate certain ingredients. It became a total creative outlet for me because I. It was fun, you know, I mean, I was just, like, you know, experimenting with certain ingredients. Clays, butters, extracts, powders, you know, I mean, a lot of things didn't work, but some things definitely did. And I did is I just basically came up with a superfood meal that would blend it for clays. Colostrum, pearl powder, organic kelp powder, L. Ascorbic acid, American ginseng. And it just.
Clay was for healing, because that's the bit, I guess, that surprises me, like the ascorbic acid and the other bits are very. In the colostrum, like, very healing. But your purpose at this point was to heal those scars, right?
Absolutely. Through bringing a lot of circulation to the surface of the skin. I mean, the clays really, really do that. And during it, also, once it hardens, the blood vessels constrict. And so you get a lot of those stagnant capillaries moving, especially under the eye area, where a lot of people start to develop under eye circles. And a lot of puffiness and a lot of congestion around the nasal and the T zone. It just relieves a lot of that congestion, especially. And when you get those stagnant capillaries gently through the ingredients, not through harsh exfoliation or any chemical treatments or enzyme peels, it can be counterproductive and have extensive downtime. So the clay mask is just. I mean, I know what I'm getting Every single time. And I have very sensitive skin. So it worked out. It definitely worked out. And it was just. Like I said, I had no intention of ever starting to do this, but it was just. It kind of became my little thing because people who saw me in the hospital were completely blown away just weeks later. It's not like the scarring was completely gone, but the swelling had gone down and the abrasions were mitigated, and so most of them were gone. And so it just became fun. I just stayed consistent with that little meal. I didn't have a name for it. It wasn't a product. It was just something I was sharing with friends, you know, for about a and a half. But in doing that, that was my beta testing. I mean, I was going around LA with a little backpack, handshaking, the ma. You know, the mask. At the time, I wasn't blending it or anything. It was just. Just something that was fun, but it was. All I wanted was feedback. You know, it's kind of like making food for somebody or making a meal for friends or something. You just want to know if they. They liked it or if they loved it. You know what I mean? It was just fun for me. It was a. It was a total. Like, I never thought, you know, I'd, like, be a creative type or definitely not into skincare, but.
And you have no scars. This is what's so amazing. There's, like, no scarring that I can see.
Yeah. I mean. Yeah. I mean, you can't see. Yes. I mean, it's gone. I mean, I still pretty much do the same protocol. I mean, I don't go more than two or three days without doing a mask, and that's okay.
So you do it quite with the mask, because I love the way it's still. I have it here. It's still in, like, powder form, so it's super fresh, because you literally make it as you're about to use it. And I've been. I mix it with water sometimes. I followed your approach that I've seen on Instagram, where I mix it with apple cider vinegar, which is a little bit more. Actually, I find that brings more circulation, a bit more redness, but afterwards I get this incredible glow. Yeah, yeah. But you recommend with it going right up to the eye area, do you? I do some things. They say, oh, it's so sensitive. Be careful with the eyes.
I know. I don't want to get in trouble here, but this is something that really works for me. I mean, as long as you're not Doing really rubbing it very hard. Just let the ingredients do their job. It just pulls a lot of those stagnant cap. It just gets them gently going. You stay consistent with that. Over time, you're going to. I mean, it's. Yeah, I mean, the ingredients will do. Do the work. You just, you know, it's just about applying it correctly, not making it too runny or not making it too thick. Applying some really good essential oils that work well with you and your skin to get a little aromatherapy as well that really helps. The apple cider vinegar is a game changer. Methylene blue is another one that I really like.
Okay, now, how do you dose the methylene blue without turning your skin blue?
By the way, if you have a white sink, be careful, you know what I mean? Because I mean that it really does stain. But they're like little ways you do it. Just like get the sink, get the water going first, and just hold the. Hold the bowl in front of it. I do probably eight drops of methylene blue, which I had a little bottle.
And your face doesn't go blue now.
Matter of fact, what I do also, though, is I'll put. I'll put a little gold serum, Put like four pumps of gold serum, put two drops of methylene blue. I'll mix it and make a little. I'll do this once or twice a week. Yeah, once a week, probably, I would Recommend. I'll put 4 drops of 4 pumps of the gold serum, and then I'll put a couple drops of the methylene blue. Make it. And make a, you know, just rub it in my hands and then apply it over the face. And then use a derma roller to roll it into the epidural layer of the skin.
So interesting, the product and then derma rolling, because I've always done it, by the way I've rolled and then I put the product on.
Yeah, you can do either or. But because if you do that, if you roll the derma roller in, like, if you apply, then roll the ingredients, the product into the skin. I just. It's kind of hard to keep. To sanitize it, so you're gonna have to toss a derma roller. But for me, you know, I obviously have a lot of those derma rollers. So I do it. It's a toy. It's kind of like, you know, those vampire facials and those microneedling is becoming very popular, especially when they infuse with things like PRP and they have so many different things that they're using these days. But I really like the gold serum methylene blue combo. Kakadu plum. I could. Yeah, I mean, I have a whole little routine that I do and it's, it's just growing. I mean, I just really love this stuff just because of the noticeable results that I experience shortly after with no downtime. So.
Yeah. And your skin is amazing. It sounds amazing.
Thank you. So does yours.
It must be the mask. I use the gold serum. Actually, I've run out. I like the gold serum. Tell me what's in that and how you formulate it. Because you started off with the mask, right. And then you've moved on to other products within the range.
Hey, so get this. What was that, 2000? I want to say 2016. I made a shaving serum because I wanted, I wanted men in. You know, women obviously could use it too, but that's a lot of serum to be putting on your legs and stuff like that. But I wanted to make a product to. As an alternative to like the harsh foaming agents of shaving cream and shaving gel. Like all the toxic chemicals located harsh preservatives. Fragrance being the number one, I would say. Or sodium low sulfate. Sulfates is another one. Phenoxy ethanol. I mean, I could go, you know, sodium benzoate. I mean there's so many just government recognized carcinogens commonly located in store, I mean, on store shelf production products commonly located on store shelves, like shaving cream being one of them. And I love to shave. And so. And we had a razor coming out as well. And so I made a shaving serum that was just, I mean, it was 95% organic. Incredible product. But men that were buying it were reaching out to me. Like, my wife keeps stealing it from me and I'm like, I mean, I felt that too. I was like, it's so much more than a shaving serum, you know. And so what I did is I kind of rolled it back and I started adding active ingredients like copper tripeptide, marine copper, collagen, CoQ10, astaxanthin, plant derived vitamin A that we. It's like, it's like a retinol alternative that we get from France. It's organic alfalfa derived, rich in vitamin A. So that's. It's one of those things where you get very similar benefits to retinol without the harsh, unpredictable downtime. Like, you know, all the irritation that you get, the sensitivity to, sun exposure. I love it. And so we just rolled it back out as a new product and there was this like undeniable glow like golden glow that you get from that product to go. The gold serum. And I'm so glad we did. That's easily our most popular product until the meteorite scrub comes out in this fall. If I'm just taking a little bit. I've been working on that for like four and a half years, but it's coming out.
Issa.
Oh, yeah, yeah, we have, we have that meteorite scrub. I mean, there's mandelic acid, fulvic acid, hyaluronic acid, pro powder, micro filtered ground meteorite powder from a meteor that landed in Morocco. I mean, it's beyond. Yeah, it's just, it's, it's. We, it's.
You hunt down the best ingredients.
Yeah. Bamboo stem cell extract. You know, bamboo being loaded in silica, it just, I mean, just really helps during that collagen synthesis process, during that cell turnover. Just, I feel like it develops a thicker collagen layer and just an undeniable brightening of the skin. I did it today. I don't know if you can tell, but it's just following that with, after using the mask is just, I mean, you just polish your skin in a way that I've never experienced in any type of med spa. That's why I don't have to. I don't go to them, you know, anymore.
So just use these. So what do you recommend then? What's the protocol? And is it different for men and women in the way that they should be using this product in the range?
No. I mean, I wouldn't say no. It's 65, 35 is our customer database, women to men. As far as just, you know, the, the protocol, ideal protocol, I would say if it's a masking day, I would start off just, you know, a warm rinse to open the pores, a few pumps of the pearl cleanser, Just, you know, in an upwards motion to get the blood flowing upwards and then rinse that off. Keep with the warm rinse and then follow with the derma roller. If you're open to using that, we use 0.25, 0.5 and 1 ML lengths of the titanium micro needles. We have a 600 needle derma roller on our site that is really effective. If you go to med SPAs, they have 1.5 to 2.5. That gets a little bit past epidermis and really lets the ingredients sink in further when you apply the product after, in this case being the clay mask. So what I'll do is I'll put. I use a lot of it. Because I'll do. I mean, I'll do whole, you know, face, neck, head, you know, the armpit detox. I'll even do the armpits and stuff like that. Just because it curls out. That's like a.
Interesting.
Yeah, it's. It's a d. It's a. It's a popular area to detox to apply the clay mask. It helps pull out impurities and toxins. Yeah. In the armpits, believe it or not. And so, yeah, that's just what I do.
And then you go in the sauna with it or. Because when I, When I go on, it says. When I've used the mask, it says to damp this face first. And then what I find is over time, it dries. That was one of my questions. Is any mask, right, Kind of starts to crack. That's when it gets uncomfortable. Should you take it off before that or you meant to wait until it starts sort of dries and cracks and could I go in the sauna then? It's. I mean, it's infrared sauna, but from the sweat, it's still going to stay quite moist.
What do you recommend? Here's. I mean, ideal optimum is when it starts to crack. That means it's completely dry. You do these like, like weird little face exercises to kind of like get it cracked and like get the circulation, getting the blood vessel constricting. And then you hop in the sauna, obviously, it's, it's, it's. It hits it from the inside too. It's. That is. I mean, I think, I mean, I have one of the therassage, which is incredible. You know what I'm talking about? Like the portable sauna unit. Yeah, yeah. So I have one of those. But it doesn't get the face, you know what I mean? Unless I get in there. I've even done that too. It's kind of because they have like the little. The hole for your head to come out. But. But I'll even go down in there to get a little heat from the sauna as well.
But that's kind of cracking. And then you go. Yeah, I've got an infrared sunlight, so I can go in there.
Oh, perfect.
Starts to crack. Right.
Do that and let me know how you feel.
Okay.
Like as soon as it's completely dry. Completely dry. How long? However long you can take it. I mean, I'm talking 10, 15 minutes. I didn't know you had one of those. Absolutely. Do that. And then ideally, if you had a little cold plunge pool or something like that, or like, well, I'm going to get one of these here at my place, just like a horse trough. And whenever I use it, maybe I'll just go out and get like a few like three, three 20 pound bags of ice, fill it up with water, hop in there. Right after, can you imagine, 20 minutes or whatever, 40 minutes in the sauna with the clay mask. Right after that you're just pulling out all those impurities. Your skin's growing, you're hopping that seal it in to close those pores. Talk about rejuvenation. I mean that, that's ideal, that's optimal.
I would say that's awesome. I'm going to try that, I'm going to try that and then finish up in the ice bath. And so with the mask though, is it a once weekly treatment? Is that what you recommend?
Because one to one, to say one to three. But I mean I'm four to five, sometimes six. Oh, yeah, yeah. I mean it's not, it's not that harsh and drying like so many clay masks out there. And that's because, I swear it's probably because of the colostrum or the pearl powder, which are very gentle. Kaolin is really gentle too. The highlight that we have is just so fine, it's like silk. So. And the bentonite as well, we get out here, source from Nevada. I mean that's the particle size of these clays. And then also like I said, the pearl powder and colostrum are so healing that. Yeah, I mean I'm using apple cider vinegar too. But then again I'm, I'm like really, really intense with this stuff. But even if you're using water, I don't know, I don't want to get in trouble because some people. But I have very sensitive skin and that works for me. So I'm not. Yeah, I mean I recommend 1 to 3 just because I want it, you know, but if you want to go a little extra, just make sure.
For me, we were saying I did a kind of intense retinol thing before doing it. So I kind of, I go too aggressive sometimes. Could you, could you put it on? And because I often get asked with red light therapy, can people put these things on before red light? And you know, there's some research around like green tea and increasing the anti. Oh, you got yours on now. So I was thinking, can I stand in front of my red light as well with the mask on?
Absolutely, yes. Like there's. Yeah, I mean and the red light.
Is still going to penetrate through the mask.
So that's. That's one of those things where I feel like it does. I feel that warmth, I feel that activity. And I feel like. How many times am I going to say I feel it if I'm feeling that? It's just whether it's just, you know, placebo psychologically, because there are some people that say that it doesn't. It can't get past, like the aqueous. I forget the term for it. But if it's something that's a solid, the red light can't get past that. But I just disagree. I don't know. I mean, I'd have to talk to Scott. He's the founder of joovv. I'm not really sure, but I definitely feel the warmth, I feel the activity, and there's something going on there. Whether or not it's just me standing there and just getting the red light from the skin that's exposed, aside from the mask, that's beneficial too. But that's just what I do. I absolutely have the red light on.
You know. Do you know, the way I love to finish it when you're talking about the ice bath is one thing I'll do is if I have. If I'm not about to dive into something cold is I'll take an ice cube out of the freezer and then I'll run the ice cube across my face all over afterwards. And that just feels so good.
All right, so that's good too. Do you have one of those little jade rollers?
Yes.
Throw that in the freezer.
Okay.
And do a little lymphatic drainage after. You know what I mean? That'll close the pores as well. And also just up and over, up and out. You know what I mean? Yeah, we're going to be making one of those here soon.
But.
Yeah, that's good too. The ice is good too. There are a lot of people in station. Put ice directly on. I don't. I don't have a problem with that.
But it melts as soon as it goes on your face. Do you know what I mean? So it's kind of quite nice. I don't. I mean, it's not like sticking. I've seen my daughter have an ice cream stuck to her tongue before. That's like. Isn't it? I'm not quite doing that. And the gold serum. Tell me about that then. So it started life as a kind of shaving thing, but obviously now it's. And it sounds like you've got more female customers. 65, 35.
Oh, yeah, yeah. It won think dirty's best serum in 2018. We were runner up second place in 2019. And yeah, that's easily our most popular product bottle in maroon glass. Their whole motto is preserved by the bottle, not by toxins. It's. Yeah, that's our most popular product for sure. I mean it's very, very noticeable results. Just a quick tip. If you're traveling, just keep a little derma roller, say in your pouch. Let's say if you have a little travel like just a carry on like say if you're taking a red eye, just going straight into a meeting or something like that, whatever it is, I mean it just reduces that puffiness. Just a quick roll of the derma roller right there. Just pat around a little gold serum into that. You look fresh. It's just instant amazing. Yeah, that's, that's how. Yeah, just a little. The night cream too during the flight to. Just a couple pats just right around here. Just because you know when you're going up 30,000ft, it's so dry and you have that artificial circuit, artificial air circulated all around. It's. It's very dry and kind of just drains.
All your products basically can go up to the eye area. They're light enough that they're not going.
To cause swelling or I've actually done videos where. And this isn't. I mean a lot of people have differing opinions on this. I just. Our products are not harsh. We don't have any really like intense chemicals or synthetics that are going to irritate. I mean this is all from the earth. Most of it's plant based and it's very, very gentle but very, very healing and effective at the same time. I mean you get, you just not. I mean I get, I get, I even go in the lid. Not with the mask. I'll go in the eyelids with lightly with the gold serum. I don't do the night cream around there because it gets a little, you know, it's a little thicker. But I'll stack the night cream and the gold serum. So I'll do a thin layer of the gold serum at night before I go to bed or sometimes even during the day, depending on where you live. I'm out in Nevada right now. It's very dry. Utah, Colorado, Arizona, not necessarily California. But if you go up north there could be some really more of a dry areas where that'd be ideal to use something like even the body lotion on the face. I mean the products are just, I mean just very clean and Very healing.
And not harsh and anti aging at the same time. Right. Your skin looks. Yeah, thank you.
I mean I just, I stay consistent with that routine. I just know what I'm getting every single time naturally from it. Not with some, some like harsh enzyme or chemical peel that's going to give me unpredictable downtime or create even worse irritation than there. There was before. That's what I don't get about all these like microdermabrasion facials and chemical peels and just really, really harsh vampire facial. I just, yeah, I'd rather just use the stuff that I make. But yeah, I mean teach their own. But that, that's definitely my, my routine just, just seems closer to nature.
You're using the gold serum, what twice a day and then the moisturizer at night or if you're traveling or something like that.
Well, I'll do. I'm pretty much every now and then I'll do a couple pumps. I'll stack the gold serum and moisturizer. Because moisturizer is a little thick, a little thicker than the gold serum. The gold serum is more concentrated with the active ingredients. But they both have similar benefits and they smell amazing together. And so I'll do a couple pumps of each and then use that during the day as needed. And then at night what I'll do is I'll stack the gold serum and then the night cream just all over the face and neck and spot treat certain areas if I need to. But yeah, just very, very healing. The night cream has two different plant derived stem cells. K Factor 16 Manuka Honey 10 Hyaluronic Acid Colostrum Red Clover Chaga Coq 10 I mean it's sea buckthorn oil. It just smells amazing too. It's like a very popular product.
Yeah, the. I'll tell you something funny. My Labrador likes to eat the leftover clay mask. He wants to lick the bowl after I've mixed it up.
See the thing is though, that's awesome. I love hearing that. I mean if it was anything that's food grade, basically, I mean, yeah. I mean the only thing in there I wouldn't really recommend kaolin. It's super chalky. But I mean it's just a mineral. It's good. And then rasool clay. It's just. I mean there's really good minerals in there, but it doesn't taste. Everything else in there I supplement with basically. I mean kale powder is basically algae, you know, blue green algae, colostrum obviously I supplement with pearl powder. I definitely do vitamin C. I definitely do. I light. I do. And then the bentonite clay I do every now and then. Just as like a detox protocol. Yeah.
Can we talk about that then from the inside out? You were saying? So you supplement, do you supplement with colostrum on a continual basis or do you sometimes just use that as a kind of healing repair therapy and cycle on and out, on and off it?
I do a post workout, so I'll do a couple scoops of colostrum and then the bulletproof collagen protein and then some coconut cream and then blueberries and cherries and I'll make a little like post workout. And then some glutamine. Yeah. And then it tastes amazing by the way. And then just make it up, mix it up. Yeah, little IGF1 growth factors and just really rich. Because it's collected within the first four hours of milking. It's apparently it's the only first four hour milking grass fed colostrum on the planet.
Which one is this that you're using?
That, that's a source. I mean our sources. Well, that's Synertech. Synertech, yeah.
Okay. Okay, amazing. And so let's talk about like some of the other things you do because you're obviously incredibly busy and successful. So what is your routine? Because you're also like we were talking about 40 years of Zen for the show and how you fit everything in. So you're completely into biohacking and health optimization. How do you, what does your day look like? How do you start your day in the morning?
Oh man. So I'll just say today, I mean, woke up like five. I mean, for whatever reason, I'm not really sleeping in as much as I used to cut some things out of, you know, just lifestyle wise. And you know, just over time, you know, I want to optimize, you know, I want to be on point. I have to be, you know, I mean, we have a smaller team and we're almost doubling what we did last year. And so like, obviously the work has increased the work. I mean it's really, really, it's been a strenuous year. But I'm definitely not complaining just because I love this stuff. But I mean, yeah, I mean, so I wake up, take a four minute cold shower and when it gets, when it gets colder here in the winter, it probably gets in the 30s. I have a pool right there, saltwater pool. So I'll just like wake up before I don't even think about it. But I can't wait to start doing that. Because that's like, that's the best way to wake up. Just hop in that pool. I do three dunks and then a four minute shower, cold shower. I mean that just completely rejuvenates you and it's just very invigorating. I come out, you know, I'll hydrate either Pellegrino or just filtered structured water. I'll add some trace minerals, some electrolytes. It's very hot and kind of just getting dehydrated. You can get dehydrated out in the desert here pretty quickly. So I'll start that off today. I used to not work out until the nighttime, but I'm starting to work out in the morning now a little bit more. So I work out, hit the sauna, come home, do a post workout shake like I just said, with the colostrum, cherries, blueberries, collagen, protein, coconut milk.
And these are actual cherries and blueberries rather than powders?
Yeah, yeah, yeah. It just adds a little tip for taste and you know, antioxidant properties as well orac value there. But. And then I'll have a bulletproof coffee. And so, so I use the French kick. The original bulletproof is pretty good. I like the mentalist as well, but I'm on the French kick right now. I don't know if you. Do you drink cold proof coffee?
No, I do. You know I sometimes do but I'm not a massive fan of. I like my coffee black. I actually that's how I prefer it.
Okay.
So I tend to just drink straight black coffee.
Yeah, yeah, no, no, I do, I.
Know what it is. Sometimes I do. Like I've experimented different ways so sometimes I'll whiz collagen up in it. Makes it a little bit creamy. Sometimes I'll put MCT oil and things. But I found that I don't like it that creamy if it's. It tastes quite rich for me so I tend to just drink coffee black. Yeah, I know there's a ton of benefits to having it that way, but yeah, I just like.
Yeah, they're no teach their own. I mean there are a ton of benefits of just drinking it black as well. Yeah, I mean I like it from time to time as well. For some reason it hits a little different than the bulletproof. Sometimes it could be a little heavy. But I mean I swear on. Yeah, just the, the grass fed butter, the brain octane oil. I had a little Ceylon cinnamon in there, a little stevia, cacao powder, lion's mane, cordyceps, cayenne powder just for a little kick. And then what am I missing? SR12, which is a combination of 12 different mushrooms that I get from jing herbs. And then I'll blend that up, tastes pretty good. But I'm just locked in until, I don't know, 6, 7pm after that. Yeah. And then I'll eat and have. I usually stick with some. I'll go if I don't have like a little snack during the day. See, the thing is, I used to intermittent fast. I'm just starting to work in right. Right now, work out in the morning. So say if I eat dinner at like 6 when I wake up at 5 and say I don't eat until 9 in the morning. So 6, 9, 15. That's not really, you know, it's not, it's not really getting in that 16 to 18 hour sweet spot for intermittent fasting. Which whereas in the past I would go, I would say like 9 and then 9pm and then the next day at 2pm Whereas that's, that's right, the 16, 18 spin. Right. 17 hours. So I mean it's, it's working for me right now. I'm good energy. I like working out in the morning because it just kicks off my day.
I do as well. I feel like my productivity is better and I also, because I love working out. I feel like if I try and work out later in the day, I've almost got to carry that around in my head all the time.
I know.
It's like a drag, but I love it. And it's kind of like, why is this mouse like feeling? I don't know. Because it's on my to do list of something to do. Whereas if I basically work out in the morning and also for women, otherwise you've got to kind of, you get, you get ready for the day, then you start work, then you get all hot and sweaty again and you've got to like shower and do all your hair and your makeup and everything all over again. It's just easier to do it in the morning, I find.
Yeah, and it's more fun too. You kind of get it. I don't want to say get it out of the way because I enjoy working out. But you knock it out and you're like, and I have nothing, nothing to do.
You know, it's a win for the day. Right?
It's a win for the day. Yeah. Plus you're rejuvenated and you just kind of got, you know, all those endorphins and serotonin running from just pushing Yourself, you know, it's such an early stage of your day, so. Yeah, it sets the tone perfectly for me.
Yeah, me too. And do you meditate or is that.
Part of your starting to. I'm starting to. I never thought I'd be able to. Yeah, I never thought I'd be able to. I actually had a friend of mine who's a hypnotist, and she was trying to work, walk me through some exercises. And, you know, when you focus in on one point, I'm like, you know, you can't. And then, I mean, I couldn't, but now I can. I mean, that 40 years is in, I swear. And I'm not just trying to promote it just because, you know, Dave's a business partner of mine. Like, it's effective, period. I can't. Something changed and I'm grateful for it.
What's the biggest thing you've noticed after 40 years of Zen?
My internal chatter is gone.
Is it?
My internal chatter is gone. My thought. I don't have worry. I don't have that fight or flight. My fight or flight is gone. It's just worried that I'm not. I don't want to say worried like I'm a big worrier, but, you know, that sense of urgency, of always go and go, go, go, go, go, go. Having to do something, I don't have that. I'm at peace. I'm in that zone. Just. I don't want to say all the time it's work, but I know that sweet spot that I have to get to just to. To maintain and to be optimal and to slow down. It's such a. I mean, I was really emotional over the weekend. Such a beautiful feeling, you know what I mean? It's what I wanted. I mean, this year, I mean, I was overloaded, flat out. Reach burnout, no doubt about it. But I mean, I love what I do. And it's just, you know, you powers through it. You put, you know, perspective in place and you do your mechanisms to fight through that burnout. But it's tough, you know, I mean, formulating, creating products, getting back. I mean, doing literally everything for the business. And then as you grow and it's a, you know, it's pretty, you know, medium, medium size. So it's not small. It's a lot. And especially the way I started this, which is very unorganized, which is kind of with one product, right? And you start to get bigger and to create more. And we have 22 with. Once I finish these out. And these are all different SKUs and they're all different purchase orders with like nine different suppliers. And then on those different suppliers, on all the ingredient that you know, that I source from all around the world, they all have different lead times and they're all like our. And aroma oil, our, you know, our floral essential oil blend that we use for a pro cleanser. I mean that takes 12 to 16 weeks because they have to pick the fruits and nuts, you know, to make the butters, the, you know, to let the, you know, for instance, the robot oil that we have, they pick that they have to sun dry that, you know, and then press it, cure it. I mean it's just, it takes, you know, and that's just one ingredient for a product, you know, I mean but.
That just testament the quality that you're using, right? You're uncompromising.
Oh yeah. No, it's, it'd be absolutely. But that's the fun part of it. It's just what do you want to do? You want to like just have something to make money or you want to have something that. Nobody goes to those lengths? Nobody goes to those lengths. There's no way. No, it's because it's just, it's not smart business wise. But this is small batch hand cure, handcrafted from small curators. It's beautiful. I mean we have pictures. We're talking to people from all around the world who I've worked with for years. You know, lead out in the Amazon, like just. It's beautiful. I love what I do.
That's amazing. And have you had, I'm curious, have you had any results from people who have skin conditions like eczema? Eczema for example? Yeah. Have they got results with that?
Yeah, yeah. That's the most. That's like the magic behind all this. It's seeing that skin transformation that is really life changing. It's, it's pretty emotional for both, for everyone involved. You know what I mean? People reaching out to you for like advice and certain things and like just. Yeah, because you know, it's crippling. Acne is crippling. I mean it's just like you don't want to leave the house. We have like a little, just something. It's bugs you. It's like why I'm doing everything right, trying to, you know, eat right and see if one little thing, it could be a stressor, it could be a hormonal, who knows what it is, could be a deficiency, something, minerals, who knows. You never, never really know sometimes especially with cystic stuff, you know Women have it very bad with the, you know, the fluctuation of hormones and balancing that out. But, you know, everybody in general is different. So just, you know, being a small part of that process of bouncing back and getting clear skin and seeing the joy in the face of, you know, a customer or friend or whoever, it's just, it's why I do it, you know, it's so fun. You should see some of our transformations. It's. Yeah, it's pretty magical. We actually have a couple of our employees, our customers turning employees. Krista, Olivia. Yeah, they're going to be with us at the biohacking conference. You should see their. Oh, man. Yeah, I'll send it to you. I mean, just very, very, very profound skin transformation from really, really intense acne.
Oh, yeah, please send it to me and we'll add it with the show notes on the podcast on my website so people can actually check it out and see because that's amazing. Yeah, that's phenomenal.
Yeah. Feels so good. I've been. I mean, I've been quite at that level, but just like something. I just know that feeling of something that bugs you and just doesn't make you want to leave the house, you know? Yeah, I've definitely been there. What am I talking about when I have my jaw wired shut with my teeth gone? And after the accident, talking to people like this, trying to go to, you know, just. You go to the grocery stores and you talk to checkers and people that, that you see every day or every other day or whatever. It's just like they look at your eyes and they look down at your jaw and it's like out to here, it's unrecognizable. It's embarrassing. Makes you very self conscious, you know.
That'S the thing, isn't it? It's wrapped into your own kind of self worth at that point when people having these problems. One thing I wanted to ask you, because I see you do it and I see Ben Greenfield doing it because he puts the clay mask up. You've both got amazing hair and he puts it into his hair. And I know like Ben's done a ton of podcasts recently and research on hair loss and the genetic component, but are the ingredients in this going to help people who are getting a thinning hair hairline? Because I think you roll it up. Don't you do derma roll before I do putting it in into the hairline?
I do. I mean, yeah. I mean, I wish I could. I wish I had some studies or as far as Claims go. I swear by it. I swear it's done something for me. There's got to be something. There's something to be said as far as, like, just getting, you know, using. I use a 1 millimeter derma roller. Right. So if you're. If you're rolling it in the scalp, you're getting past that initial layer, you're reintroducing really good, rich nutrients. You're introducing the colostrum, which has that good IGF1 growth factor just past that layer. And who knows, maybe it's creating a healthier hair follicle. Maybe it's creating a lot of circulation to that area that's helping create a healthier hair follicle. I'm not really sure, but I just know the feeling of the hair is. The texture of the hair is softer, softer and thicker, but just more. It flows better. The only problem is, like, I just don't. I can't. I don't want to recommend it. I don't. I don't know for people to color their hair. I don't want to get yelled at. You know what I mean? And it maybe, maybe it may be a little. Maybe a little earthy, too, with the kelp powder, but I don't mind it. I'm just all about performance. I swear by that. By that. Yeah. I wouldn't. Every time I use a mask, I always throw and make it as close or put it as close to the scalp as possible. Yeah.
Amazing. And so these ingredients are designed to enhance collagen production as well. Right. They've got the circulation from the clay, but they're also designed. Yeah. Which is amazing. And then you add the collagen from the inside out as well in your shapes and things. You're kind of coming at it from.
Both angles, both ends.
Yeah, it's perfect. So what's, what's, what's new? Before you go, what's new on the end agenda? You've got a new product coming out in October. What's new for Alito? Because it sounds like things are moving fast now with the company.
Yeah, no, it's, It's. It's good. It's just taking a little bit longer because it's all me putting together stuff, putting this stuff together. I mean, the meteorite scrub should have been out last year. The formula has been done for a while. But just putting together, getting a sugar cane tube, I don't want to, you know, give you guys plastic. Right. So I just, you know, sourcing that has been difficult. But anyway, so get excited. For that. Because that's going to be one of the. That's going to be talked about after I'm long gone. Trust me, that's going to be our most popular product, hands down. So the meteorite scrub is coming. Sunscreen, Alatura Sol. It's going to like. It's Spanish for sun. And then two different deodorants, Hair and body wash, lip plumper, an eye gel and a travel pouch. A leather travel pouch that. Wait till you see this thing. Let's see. And then. Yeah, there. I mean, there's just so much. It's just. But I want to put a bow on those before I move on to something else, you know?
Yeah, that's a lot coming out. A lot. I guess the last question is, in terms of things like the mask you mentioned essential oils, are there certain essential oils that you recommend mixing with it for amplifying those effects? What would they be?
Ylang, Ylang, Buckthorn, Clary sage, lemongrass. Lavender is pretty good. Yeah.
Okay.
You should see Australian sandalwood. I probably have 20 different ones in my bathroom. I just, I. I'm telling you, this is. I just, I'm obsessed with this stuff. But it just provides a great. Just aromatherapy as well as skin activation. There's something that it does to the mask. It just works very well for me. And then, yeah, just. I recommend anybody who has. Who has really has some essential oils that work very well with their skin throughout. And then they like, obviously the aroma to help mitigate some of the earthiness of the kelp. Pow. Throw it in there. The pink grapefruit works really well. Sweet orange oil as well. And obviously the lemongrass too. Oh, man, there's so many. I know I'm missing one. Blue chamomile.
Are there specific brands of essential oils that you use?
Mountain Rose Herbs is pretty good.
Mountain Rose herbs.
Mountain Rose Herbs is pretty good. Okay. Yeah, yeah, that's what I use. That's all I use. I'm trying to think of some other ones, but I can't.
Amazing. We'll link to all of that in the show notes and so where people can buy it because I have to say, I absolutely love it. I'm going to play with it in the sauna and hold on afterwards as well and stick some essential oils in because it's fun. So, yeah, I'll cover it all on Instagram. I'm losing the light here. It's kind of. We're in darkness.
Yeah, no, it's. What time is it here? 1120.
Where we're 1120. Okay. So you're about eight.
