The Power of Post-Traumatic Growth: Rising Stronger After the Storm
11 Nov 2025 · 0 min
In this solo, motivational episode of Reclaim Your Inner Rockstar, aromapsychologist and cognitive coach Amy Robinson addresses high‑capacity leaders about post‑traumatic growth (PTG). She begins by acknowledging the heavy emotions tied to trauma and distinguishes PTG from toxic positivity. Drawing on research, she outlines five key domains where trauma can spark positive change: greater appreciation for life, improved relationships, new possibilities, personal growth, and spiritual growth. Amy then identifies common cognitive distortions—catastrophizing, fortune‑telling, hypervigilance, and overgeneralization—that keep survivors stuck. To move toward PTG, she proposes five practical shifts: (1) name your survival, (2) reframe your story, (3) practice meaning‑making through journaling, (4) anchor your body with breathwork, essential oils, and movement, and (5) connect with supportive community. Throughout, she weaves in her aromapsychology expertise and spiritual framing, referencing God, Jehovah, and Christ as sources of deeper meaning. The episode concludes with calls to action for her Radiant Rockstars Transformation Membership and a private companion podcast, offering deeper cognitive‑coaching tools, aromatherapy practices, and community support. The overall message is that trauma can be a fertile soil for growth, and listeners are encouraged to honor both their scars and their emerging strength.

Hey, hey, hey, beautiful souls! Welcome back to Reclaim Your Inner Rockstar. Today we're going to have a conversation that is so powerful, and it's around the topic of something that's trending now, and that topic is the power of post-traumatic growth. Rising Stronger After the Storm. Beautiful soul, before we get into this episode, I want you to reflect for a moment. Let me ask you, have you ever looked back at the hardest moment of your life and thought, I don't even know how I survived this? Have you ever realized that pain that you swore would destroy you actually made you stronger, braver, and even more compassionate? Or maybe you're still in it, wondering if anything good will ever come from what you've been through. What I want you to take away from this episode is that trauma can change you, and it's not always having to be for the worse. What if the very thing you thought would break you was actually the soil where your deepest growth is taking root. Today we're diving into something powerful, trending, and deeply personal: post-traumatic growth. You've probably heard that post-traumatic stress we all talk about. Ladies in my community hear about it all the time. You come into my coaching space saying, I have post-traumatic stress, but There's another side to that story, ladies, a side that you may have never looked at before, a side that does not get enough airtime. Post-traumatic growth. This isn't about toxic positivity or slapping affirmations on your pain. This is about quiet, powerful truths that trauma can plant seeds of resilience. Wisdom and strength that you wouldn't have ever tapped into otherwise. So let's get it clear. Post-traumatic growth, or PTG, isn't about minimizing what you've been through. All those feelings that you come in here with, those feelings of heaviness from your trauma, I don't want you to negate those feelings. Those feelings are real. Those feelings are what you have in the moment. However, What if you could think about it differently? Because it's not about saying, well, everything happens for a reason. That's also toxic positivity. It's about recognizing that your central nervous system, your spirit, and your very being has had the capacity to adapt, rebuild, and discover new strength. On the other side of adversity. Research shows that people who go through trauma can actually experience positive psychological changes in 5 key areas. 1. Greater appreciation for life. Suddenly, what felt ordinary becomes the extraordinary. 2. Improved relationships, because pain teaches you who's really in your corner. 3, new possibilities, doors open that you never even looked for before. 4, personal growth, that deep "I got through this so I can get through anything" energy. And 5, which is my personal most important, spiritual growth. It connects you to something greater, our incredible magnificent God above, Jehovah, and the things that he put into place to be able to care for us, like nature and all the beautiful connections and people around us to be able to help us to see that our inner person is real and we are fully alive. Post-traumatic growth doesn't cancel out our trauma. It can coexist with it. Yes, beautiful soul, you can hold grief in one hand and gratitude in the other. You can still have scars and also shine brighter because of them. Here's where I need to really take a moment and to get real with you, beautiful. Healing isn't about waiting for the other shoe to drop. Those are cognitive distortions— waiting for the other shoe to drop. For example, they overlap. Catastrophizing, where you're mentally jumping to the worst-case scenario, assuming something bad is going to inevitably happen even when there's no solid evidence. It could be fortune-telling, which I call it predictive thinking, where you believe that you can predict the future, that it will all be negative. And it's also rooted in hypervigilance or overgeneralization, which is often rooted in that trauma response, that chronic stress that your nervous system stays on high alert. Those past experiences of sudden loss or pain, they can teach the brain to overgeneralize that bad things that happened before will probably happen again. You are the one who guides your life. You are the one who can ground yourself. And that rhythm that you're walking, that's you, not your external circumstances and not your trauma. Post-traumatic growth shows up when you stop asking, why did this happen to me? And you start asking, what is this truly teaching me about my power? Personally, I've seen this growth in so many ways. Most importantly, how I hold boundaries and how I listen to my intuition, and in how I refuse to settle for relationships or environments that put me in a box that put me to the side or that shrink me. Trauma cracked me open, but the growth that I was able to receive from it gave me the courage to fill those cracks with Godly wisdom, creativity, and true deep faith. And if I can do it, so can you. I want to remind you Post-traumatic growth means you honor yourself and it by refusing to let it define your future. I get it, beautiful soul. Trauma keeps us isolated. It keeps us thinking that we can't see what's in front of us, so we have to constantly protect ourselves. There are 5 things that can help you to begin to shift. One, name your survival. Take a moment and acknowledge, I'm here in this moment. I've made it. I can do this. That recognition alone activates resilience. Reframe your story. That's number two. Instead of saying, I'm broken because of what happened, What if you started saying, "I'm wiser because of what I've lived through." Number 3: Practice meaning-making. What does that mean? Journal questions like, "What have I learned about myself through this?" "What strengths have surprised me?" "Where do I want to go now that I know that I can survive storms?" Number 4, I want you to anchor your body. Use that body as your anchor, whether it's breathwork, essential oils, movement, grounding exercises. Remind your body that you are safe in the moment so your spirit can focus on your growth. And number 5, I want you to connect with others that will help you shift because again, trauma isolates us. Growth connects us. Finding safety in our communities where you can share your story, where you can feel like yourself and be seen without judgment but with love. As you challenge yourself with these 5 shifts, I want you to look for ways that you can write down for yourself how you are staying stronger each day. And be able to work through that day. Because ladies, that's where it's at. Building resilience, building forward momentum, reminding yourself each day, I am worthy of all of this. And how do you know? For you who lean into spirituality, Christ Ransom. Jesus died so that we could be joyful and happy and have a hope for a future. If that's not enough, I don't know what is. So beautiful souls, remind yourself that post-traumatic growth is a rhythm, it's a dance. Some days you're gonna stumble and that's okay. Give yourself permission to feel those days, to to be in those days and to be okay within those days without judgment but with love. Some days you're gonna soar, you're gonna feel like you're on top of the world. Give yourself permission to feel those feelings, to feel on top of the world, to be joyful, to be happy, to rejoice. It's okay. It's all within the realm of your growth. You are not defined by your trauma. You are defined by the way that you lean out of that into your beautiful growth. Need support with this?
