What “Rich & Wealth” Actually Means for High-Functioning Women!
10 Mar 2026 · 0 min
Amy Robinson, an aromapsychologist and cognitive coach, redefines wealth for high-functioning women beyond money to include nervous-system peace, emotional freedom, and deep connections. After a nine-month financial break from burnout, she discovered that constant high performance keeps your nervous system in chronic activation, undermining the experience of richness. She teaches scent-based interventions and cognitive tools to interrupt spiraling thoughts and reclaim internal steadiness.

So today's topic, we're gonna have a conversation around the idea of what rich really means. So many women, think of wealth and being rich as the ultimate goal in their life, especially high capacity, high functioning women. But I wanna have a conversation around what most people don't talk about because so many of us, maybe we come from a spiritual space or we battle with this of what really is wealth and what is riches and what does that look like in my life? It does mean something different for everybody, but most of us We're trained to think that rich is only one category. It's money, it's income, it's revenue, it's success metrics. And don't get me wrong, money does matter. We have to pay our bills, we have to live, we have to survive in this world, right? Financial stability matters. Being smart with our money, that is so important. To be able to live our life the way that we want to live it. But how much is too much and how little is too little? That is really where the question lies and where our nervous systems have some major triggering moments around it. What I've observed in the women that I work with, and honestly, really in my own life, is something very, very interesting. Some of The most capable women I know are financially successful, myself included, and privately we have been exhausted. As a matter of fact, I'm just coming out of a 9-month financial flow hiatus because I was so exhausted. I needed to take that time for rest, but even within that, I created this podcast and I was able to shift my energy to be able to support in a different way. And that's where you find me here. Many of the women I've observed, the women that have been in my space, my coaching space, my life, they've built businesses, they've managed teams, they've handled complex decisions every single day. I know personally I thrive on those things. But internally, our nervous systems were constantly running in the background, like a computer with too many tabs open. Does this sound like you? We look successful, but our bodies are exhausted, our capacities. We function, but at what cost? A high-functioning woman is incredibly good at endurance. There's a hidden cost for being that strong one. You're able to negotiate deals, you're able to lock in on contracts, you're able to lead conversations, you're able to hold families together, you are able to solve problems quickly. But the question that I've started asking more often is, is the life you're building actually allowing you to live, or is it just something you're managing? Because a lot of women are running extremely sophisticated lives, yourself included, but your nervous system— their nervous system— never gets to exhale. There's always going to be a contract. There's always going to be a conversation that needs to be led. There's always going to be a space you need to walk into. But what are your energetics, beautiful? Are you running on fumes? Are you performing calm, or are you living it? So that leads me to talk about richness that I have found in my life, my version of what being wealthy and rich really are. And I've noticed this in the lives of the women that I've helped transform. When I think about rich now, it looks incredibly different. When I first started out in my business, I I set my intentions on making my first 6 figures, and I did that. I surpassed that. I did it fast. I did it unapologetically. I landed it. And at the end, I was exhausted. I was bracing. I was so tired, which led me to my 9-month hiatus. But in that time, that's when my creativity started to shift, and here I am. For me, being wealthy, being rich, is waking up without my nervous system already bracing for the day. I don't set an alarm unless I have to. Yes, I have responsibilities in my life. I lead a very rich spiritual, emotional, physical life. We lead a very rich life. But I also value slow mornings, coffee steaming in the kitchen, waiting for me and Hubs to get up and have our coffee time. We get up every day and have coffee conversations. Because for us, being wealthy and being rich is having a strong marriage, having a close marriage, intimate, deep conversations that need to be had. We love our quiet. We live for our quiet moments, but we also lean into the beauties and joys that life presents to us. Because being rich, being wealthy, is the ability to say to the person you love, let's go somewhere new this week, let's explore, let's try a new spot for breakfast, let's enjoy this new environment we're in. It's not about escaping our life. See, the world in general has wealth and rich completely wrong. So many people reach for the stars so that they can retire and have it all, but they miss out on their life while they're doing it. That to me is not wealth. That to me is not riches, because it has nothing to do with what I have in my bank account. I've chosen years ago to not escape my life. I let go of the 9-to-5 for that very reason. I wanted to create space in it. So rich to me is having time to explore new things, new towns, new streets, new cafes. Not rushing, not performing, just living. That kind of wealth is deeply underestimated. My husband and I have had 10 international moves. We have explored new places. We have lived. And it's amazing what people say when we tell them our story. A majority of them lean into, why do you move so much? What's your problem? And yes, some of our moves were forced on us. Some of those were through the time of COVID where we were living in Mexico and we're visiting our family in Canada and the country shut down. Canada shut down its borders. And so we had to make some tough choices and we chose to live in Canada for a year and a half while COVID was happening. And so that meant not going back to our beloved home in Mexico for at least 4 years. And yeah, that was a struggle for us, but at the same time, we were so grateful for being able to have the freedom to do that. We were so grateful to be able to have the opportunity to be safe in an environment that was safe. Yeah, it was in another country, but it really is amazing how it challenges people's thinking when you live the life that they want to live and don't know how to live. That is true wealth, isn't it? It's not about money, it's about freedom. And that's right before you when you lean into it. One thing that I want to lean into in having this conversation is the importance of having the nervous system peace most people miss. Freedom doesn't feel good if your nervous system is constantly activated. You can be sitting on a beach and still feel anxious. You can be on vacation and still feel like your mind is scanning for problems. That's why emotional regulation matters so much, because wealth without internal steadiness still feels like pressure. Your nervous system has to learn how to settle. That's where the work I teach comes in. I've been there, I've experienced that, I've lived in that space for a long time. And so because of that, I am able to support you through capacity expansion, cognitive tools that help you interrupt spiraling thoughts. And scent psychology helps you shift your physiology quickly. Certain essential oils are able to communicate directly with the limbic system. They help your brain to register safety faster. And when your nervous system registers safety, your body actually lets you experience your life. I've been on both ends of the spectrum. I've been able to embrace massive situations with ease, and then when new things came my way and I was in a beautiful situation that I later came to appreciate, in that moment my nervous system wasn't ready for it. So I know what the two feel like, and I can differentiate what that can be for you. For you, the woman listening, I want you to have financial success. So whatever that looks like for you, because it's different for everyone, is important. We're living in a world where inflation is growing quickly. Just to live each day, the cost of living is rising. So of course it's important to have money coming in. Absolutely. But even more than that, I want you to feel rich or wealthy in the places that actually change your life. What are those places? Your time, your calm, your clarity, the ability to sit across from someone you love and not feel like your brain is still at work. The ability to explore new places without carrying your stress with you. That kind of wealth is real. If something inside you settled while listening to this episode, that's exactly the work I coach.
