Why I’m Shifting My Work: Emotional Regulation, Clarity, and the Next Evolution of This Podcast
9 Dec 2025 · 15 min
Amy Robinson, an aromapsychologist and cognitive coach, is shifting from trauma-focused work to serving high-capacity women leaders. Years of intensive trauma coaching depleted her emotional bandwidth. She now focuses on emotional regulation and nervous-system mastery for women already beyond raw crisis, through her Rockstar Regulation Collective membership and private coaching.

Hey, beautiful souls. Welcome to Reclaim Your Inner Rockstar, the space for high-capacity leaders who lead boldly yet often feel overstimulated beneath the surface. I'm Amy Robinson, aromapsychologist and cognitive coach with more than 25 years of helping others find emotional clarity through scent and science. My work began when I realized scent could instantly shift my thoughts and regulate my entire inner world. And I knew women like me needed access to that same power. Each week you will receive grounded tools and conversations that help you steady your nervous system and think more clearly. Are you ready to feel like yourself again? Then you're in the right place. Hey lovelies, welcome back to Reclaim Your Inner Rockstar. Today's episode is one that I've been sitting with for a while. It holds a lot of truth, a lot of evolution, and a lot of intention. By the time we finish this conversation, you'll have a deeper understanding of why I'm shifting the direction of this podcast and how this transition is gonna impact you as we start this next season. This episode is about clarity, it's about capacity, it's about growth, it's, and really it's for both of us. So let's go ahead and begin. For years, I devoted my work to women navigating trauma. That trauma went deep. The emotional pain behind it and that process of healing from their past was something that I was so passionate about. It was an honor to sit with these women in their most vulnerable moments, to guide them through their emotional releases, to bring in aromatics and cognitive tools that supported their deepest level pain. That season for me, it had so much purpose. But something else became true over time, something that I couldn't ignore. As I sat in those private sessions, there was a pulling for me. Working so closely with trauma, day after day, year after year, began taking its toll on my emotional capacity. It required an energy that was truly no longer sustainable for the season of life that I knew deep down inside I was starting to step into. I didn't realize how deeply I was carrying that unspoken weight. After sessions, getting off crying, having to consistently recenter my nervous system, my healer within me was feeling the weight of it. I didn't realize how much that unspoken weight, the retelling of pain, the emotional labor of holding space for so many women who felt stuck in their past had affected me. And here's the elephant in the room, because y'all know I love to talk about the elephant in the room. I will point to it, I will bring it to life. The part that many of you have sensed, because you, beautiful soul, are intuitive and aware My spirit was asking for a shift long before I was willing to accept it. I thought it was burnout, but it wasn't. I thought it was avoidance, but it wasn't. It was my body's way of gently preparing me for the evolution of where I'm going now. I began noticing that the women who were thriving the most with me were the women who had already moved beyond the rawness of their trauma. The women who wanted clarity, emotional regulation, nervous system mastery, better thinking, better leadership, and a life shaped by intention rather than survival. These were the women who showed up ready to rise. And I, in that moment when I saw that, when my ideal client came through my container, I recognized her immediately. It felt good. It felt easy. And I realized something very profound. My gifts are no longer being called toward trauma. They're being called toward transformation, a transformation on a higher level with women who are already self-led, who are beyond ready to be open, to surrender, and to allow openness for what will come in. Talking about that toll for me is not easy. You've seen it. You saw me pull away. You saw me stay quiet on social media for a while. What you didn't see was the agony that I went through to make this decision. Supporting women in trauma is a very protective work. It deserves respect and reverence, something that at the time I had the capacity for. But the emotional intensity of that work also requires a level of capacity and bandwidth that I no longer carry, not in the way that serves them well, and not in the way that honors my own nervous system health and calling. Because here's the thing, when women are working on their trauma, they tend to shift blame, attack, avoid, shrink. As a high capacity coach, it's not my place to force or make somebody do something they don't want to do. Over time, that takes its toll. That's what happened with me. I noticed how deeply trauma-heavy sessions lingered in my body, how much emotional residue I held after supporting someone through repeated crisis states, how difficult it became to bring my best, sharpest coaching mind into spaces that required constant survival mode. Stabilization. At some point, I had to acknowledge what was genuinely true, and that truth is I cannot keep holding that level of emotional weight and still step into the leader, the teacher, the guide that I know deep down inside is what's coming out of me. In this next chapter. That recognition was alignment for me. It allowed me to see the path ahead with stunning clarity. You may ask, where are we heading? What is going on? What is going to happen? You've already felt the shift in this podcast, the language, the tone, the direction.
