Your Body Isn’t Breaking Down. It’s Responding to Nervous System Overload!
23 Dec 2025 · 16 min
In this solo episode of Reclaim Your Inner Rockstar, aromapsychologist and cognitive coach Amy Robinson speaks directly to high‑capacity women who appear steady outwardly but feel overstimulated, exhausted, or “depressed” inside. Drawing on 25 years of work with scent‑based regulation, Amy reframes low‑energy states as the body’s intelligent signal of nervous‑system overload rather than clinical depression. She explains how self‑betrayal—taking on emotional weight and staying in roles that no longer fit—creates a hidden form of burnout that manifests as anxiety, chronic pain, high blood pressure, and emotional overwhelm. Amy positions these symptoms as boundary‑enforcement messages from the nervous system, urging listeners to recognize and honor them. She offers concrete, in‑the‑moment regulation tools (deep breathing, jaw unclenching, shoulder dropping, aromatic cues) that signal safety and retrain the body’s stress response. The episode also introduces the Radiant Rockstar Regulation Collective and private coaching, which combine aromatic regulation, cognitive clarity exercises, and structured emotional support tailored for women leaders. Throughout, Amy emphasizes that the body is not breaking down; it is asking for recalibration, and by listening, leaders can regain clarity, stable power, and a calm that is reliable rather than performative.

Hey, beautiful soul. Welcome to today's episode. Before we dive in, I want to speak directly to the high capacity woman who's listening. If your life looks steady on the outside, but your nervous system is overstimulated, pressured, or even quietly exhausted on the inside, the Radiant Rockstar Regulation Collective was created just for you. This is where scent-based science and cognitive regulation come together to help you create calm that's reliable and not performative. You'll learn how to regulate your nervous system in real time so that your clarity your leadership and your decision-making feel grounded again. The link is in the show notes. Let's get real. Today's episode is one that I have been struggling with for a while, and because I've been struggling through it, I feel that I'm able to have this conversation with you guys. We're going to be honest in this episode because there's a moment when your body stops asking nicely for things. It does not send those polite signals. It doesn't wait for the calendar to clear. It doesn't care how capable you are. It just says enough. Personally, I have been going through a bit of a low capacity energetic space, and it's been happening for a while. In times past, I labeled this as depression, but the more that I started to understand how my body flows, I stopped using the label of depression and started to use the label of low energy and low capacity. It helped me to get to the root of really what was going on, and because of that, I was able to really learn how my mind and my body function together and when it starts to say that enough is enough. So if you've been dealing with physical symptoms that feel confusing, inconvenient, or honestly a little scary, or if you've labeled those moments as depression or anxiety, understand that I know exactly how you feel and actually where you are. If your nervous system feels like it's buzzing, heavy, or tight without a clean explanation, it feels like failure, but really what it is is your body's intelligence. With that, I want to welcome you back to Reclaim Your Inner Rockstar, the space where high-capacity women stop gaslighting their bodies and start listening to what their system has been trying to say all along. There's an uncomfortable truth that most of us leaders try to avoid. If we ignore it, it's not there. If we don't focus on it, it will go away. But here's what nobody wants to say out loud. Most high-capacity women don't burn out from workload. We burn out from self-betrayal dressed up as responsibility. You can handle pressure. You've proven that. But what your body won't tolerate forever is carrying emotional weight that's no longer aligned, staying in roles that you've outgrown, holding it together when your system is asking for safety, not strength. And the longer you override that message, the louder your body is going to get. It doesn't want to punish you. It's trying to protect you. So this is important to recognize because A lot of times we feel it as anxiety. Our body starts to tighten, our mind starts to race, but what it's trying to tell us is it's a boundary. You're crossing your own boundary. What if we took a moment to reframe something radically? What you might be calling anxiety Or you might be labeling as something is wrong with me. What if that is your nervous system enforcing a boundary you refuse to set consciously? What if your body is saying, I will not continue this version of life without consistent regulation. For women, we have built success around competence, around steadiness, around emotional control. So this can feel very, very terrifying. You're not used to needing to slow down to stabilize. You're used to pushing through, continuing to keep going. If I suck it up, buttercup, I'm gonna be just fine. But what if that's total body and mind denial and betrayal? Pushing through is no longer the skill that this season in your life requires. Here's why so many high-capacity women fall apart when you're highly capable, your nervous system adapts to pressure. It becomes efficient at functioning under load. Until that load changes. Until your identity shifts. Until your values evolve. Until the life you're building demands internal coherence, not just performance. That's when symptoms start to show up. That chronic illness that's unexplained, the many doctor's visits trying to find phantom pain. It's real physical pain, but doctors can't find it. All that struggle, the anxiety, the worry, high blood pressure that comes as a result, the exhaustion, the constant crying. All of it. Those symptoms are real. Your system is telling you something. So what if you took it as your body telling you, I need to recalibrate, not collapse? Transitions feel destabilizing. Before they feel freeing. I've lived this from the inside. I felt all the symptoms that you feel, and I've chosen to pay attention. And when my body starts to get low, I listen. I've had to learn that. It's a raw truth from my own season. There's this quiet grief in realizing that what once fit in my life no longer does. I need to allow my body to feel that grief. That's the way we are able to process our pain. The way you used to cope now costs you too much. Your body is done negotiating. It won't continue at that pace anymore. And All the dollars in the bank, all the accreditation that you have doesn't mean anything if you are not emotionally regulated on the inside. So what does that look like? Listening to it. It doesn't slow your life down. You can use it as your strength to lead. It just takes paying attention. So I want you to take a moment right now and pause. Pay attention to your body. Right now, unclench your jaw, drop your shoulders, exhale a little longer than you inhale. This is not so much to calm down, it's to signal safety. When your body is not used to breathing, it will feel like an attack. It will feel like panic. So it's important to retrain your body and your mind to see breathing deeper as a safety. And not a stressor. Because your nervous system doesn't need motivation, it needs permission from you to slow down, to feel safe, and to enjoy this season that you're in. So it makes you think. I know it made me think at one time, what is this season actually asking from me? What does it look like to not hustle from the inside out? Because here's the thing, what happens with most of us, we can say it, I'm not hustling, I have a great routine, I have downtime, I have self-care. But do we really? Does your mind and body agree with your statement? When we're used to masking, saying one thing and meaning another, betraying our boundaries, this can feel incredibly uncomfortable. So start with asking yourself, what is this season actually asking of me? It's not asking you to quit. We're leaders, we don't quit. It's asking you to lead yourself differently, with fewer explanations, with clear boundaries, with regulation that is intentional, trained, and repeatable. Does this sound like you? Are you nodding along while feeling a little exposed? Good. That's what you call resonance. See, your body's not breaking down. Your body is incredibly intuitive and powerful. What it's doing is pushing back against a life that no longer fits the woman that you're becoming. And when you stop fighting that message, clarity returns, your power stabilizes, and calm becomes something that you rely on, not chase. If this episode hits close to home. Don't ignore it. Inside the Radiant Rockstar Regulation Collective, we work with your nervous system intentionally through aromatic regulation, cognitive clarity tools, and structured emotional support designed for high-capacity women. And if you know you need deeper personalized guidance through a transition like this, Private coaching is available by application. You don't need pressure, you need regulation that works. All the links are in the show notes. Have a beautiful day. I'll see you in the next episode.
