What Does it Mean to Be Consistent on Social Media?

Angelica Govaert says consistency beats perfection for yoga teachers building online businesses. Post daily on your main platform, 2-3 times on Instagram, and focus on solving a specific problem like back pain rather than sharing personal content. Quality matters less than showing up repeatedly and helping your audience.

The number one thing keeping you stuck as a yoga teacher and not getting you where you want to go online is that you are not consistent. Consistency is the key to your success online. And that may sound really simple, but it's actually quite multilayered. And this is how you get consistent. Hi, my name is Angelica. This is the Yoga Liberty Podcast or just the YouTube channel. I put it on both places. You can listen to it on Apple, Spotify, iHeartRadio. Music, YouTube, lots of other Amazon Music. It's a lot of it's on a lot of places. But wherever you're watching, thank you for watching. I'm so glad that you're here. My mission is to help yoga teachers understand the business of yoga and just the business part in general. And I think a lot of us will split those up and we'll think that like the business of yoga is somehow different than business, and it's not because traditional marketing can be used to help you grow your yoga business. Listen, here's the reality: I've been practicing yoga. for 40 years, but I also understand in that time I've met all kinds of really great yoga teachers at the highest level, people who have humongous and huge followings. And they all had one thing in common. They use traditional marketing to build their business. So if you think that somehow, if someone's a guru, that they're not using sales funnels and they're not using social media to leverage their following, you're wrong. They are using those things. And there's nothing wrong with it. We've got to take the shame away. All right. So let's talk about consistency. What does that even mean? What does it mean to be consistent online? Well, it means posting and it means doing it a lot, but what does that mean? So my coach always told me to do something every single day, choose what it is that you want to be good at, and then just get good at that thing. So if you want to be a great YouTuber, then post every single day for a year on YouTube. Over that time, what's going to happen? is that you're going to learn how to be better at YouTube. And the ones that you do in the beginning, they aren't going to be very good. And the ones that you do towards the end will be better. And then you'll look back 2 years later and be like, wow, that's what I did 2 years ago? So you get better by doing reps. You don't get better at it by being perfect before you even do it. A lot of people will Not get started on social media because they think they have to be perfect before they get there. But a lot of people will also make the mistake of posting the wrong things on social media. So what you don't want to post is like pictures of your dog, your family, what you had for dinner. No one cares about that. You're not a celebrity. You're not Kim Kardashian. No one even really cares about Kim Kardashian, to be totally honest, but no one really cares about that stuff. To be honest, most people don't even know anything about me. And I like to keep it that way because my family is for me. And what I do on my personal time, that's for me. I don't share that with social media. That shouldn't actually be interesting to people. When you go to a business, let's say you go to the pizzeria down the street from your house. Are they telling you everything that they did last night and what they had for dinner and where they're going on vacation? Probably not. They're probably not doing those things. And if they are, it's because you have a very special relationship with them. But even I live in a small town and even in this small town, like I don't know everything about the people that own the pizza shop and we actually really like them. So that's the same way as your social media. You've got to start running this as a business. It's not for your friends. You have to start running it as something that you're serious about. You see social media as an algorithm and the algorithm wants you to be social with the people that It thinks that you like. So if you are posting about what you had for dinner or practicing yoga or doing your dishes or whatever, it's going to put you in front of people that are doing those same things.
But if you're saying to the algorithm like, hey, I'm actually really interested in, I'm really interested in helping people understand how to reduce back pain through the practice of yoga.
Well, now the algorithm's gonna put you in front of people who wanna reduce their back pain, right? Because it's thinking that you wanna be social with those people. It's not business It's social media, and once you make that click and that understanding that it's about service to the people who are watching the videos, then you're going to start creating a better level of content just right away. People don't really care about like the quality of your content. Honestly, in the age of AI, people would like it to see it less polished. What people really care about is that your content conveys the information that's super helpful to them, and so every. Everything that you create, you want to have it under that lens. How can I be most helpful to other people? This whole video is about how can I be most helpful to you to understand what consistency really means. So it means posting at least once a day on your chosen platform. Do you want to do a podcast? Once a day on that podcast for a year.
You want to do YouTube?
Once a day on that for a year. Get to be an expert on it. You see, this thing takes a long time. We're in a society now that feels like everything should just happen really quickly, but that's not really the reality of growing a business, whether it's online or in person. And I realized when I started my online business, see, I thought instantly I was going to make money and that's not really what happened to me. I didn't make money instantly, at least not anything that I could quit my job. I had to still have a second job in the beginning. And I realized, right, when I opened my yoga studio, it took about 3 years before it was really consistent and solid. And it was a little bit faster online, but Not that much. You're starting a new business.
It's going to take time.
Don't think that it's going to be overnight. Don't think that you'll start in a week or a month. You know, people have been doing this a long time before you've heard of them. I remember one time looking at an Alex Hormozi video and being like, who is this guy? He just popped up out of nowhere. So I went to his podcast and was like, how many episodes does he even have? How did he get started so fast? And He had 600 episodes. 600 episodes. I thought this guy was like brand new. He'd already done 600 episodes. Do you know how long it takes to do 600 episodes? I mean, even if he was doing one every day, that would be 2 years, but he probably wasn't doing one every day. It had been years and years. In fact, I found out later that I was just following in his footsteps. I went to my first Inner Circle meeting and Myron Golden said to me that I was just like Alex Hormozi years ago, asking the same questions, standing up on the same stage. And that's when I realized that this guy had been at it for like 10 years and I was just getting started, right? Even though I'd been doing it for a while. So you've got to put in a lot of time to have what some of these people that are, you're looking at and thinking like, oh, that girl, she's been posting just for about a month and somehow she's famous. You know, there are people that get pretty big followings in a short period of time. But that also generally comes with a lot of burnout because they don't know how to handle it. And they aren't really sure exactly how they got there. It's kind of like your yoga practice. You know how, when, I don't know, some people aren't like this, but for me, it was really hard to learn how to do everything.
So, you know, the first time you pancaked in Paschimottanasana, well, that took me a really long time to be able to do that. Or the first time you did Bakasana, crow pose, right? It took a long time.
It was a lot of practice and sometimes it was years.
And that's how online is too. Sure.
There's some people that get up there and they do the best crow pose straight away and they can go right into headstand from there and then come back up, back into Bakasana.
But that's not everybody. In fact, it's not most people. That would be an extraordinary result. So you have to remember that that would be an extraordinary result for you as well. If you were to just come into social media and suddenly blow up, you've gotta practice it. That's the reality. Now, if you wanna be consistent on other types of platforms, let's say you wanna be consistent on Instagram, that typically means posting at least twice a day. Are people going to get bored and annoyed with you? No, no, you can't post enough for people. I'm telling you right now, like they would love to watch.
If they like you, they're going to watch all your stuff.
You can't post enough to satisfy their needs. Like, think about it. Like if I were to post 2 videos a day on YouTube, like maybe you couldn't watch them all, but you would be like, wow, she has such a great library that I could look through. Right. That's not going to annoy you. You just are going to watch what you want to watch and not what you don't.
All right.
And then the other thing is TikTok. Let's say you want to do really well on TikTok. Well, TikTok's a whole different strategy and there's a lot that goes into it, but the rule there is like at least 3 times a day, if not more. I don't know if you know about this guy named Victor that's on TikTok right now and he's just blowing up. Dude is posting like 7 to 10 times a day, 7 to 10 times a day, right?
Like, how does he even have time to do this?
That's because his videos aren't perfect, right? But what he does have in the video is a really high quality video. So all of us have really Really high quality video. Right now I'm filming this on an iPhone, right? So you all have high quality video at your house. Use your phones. Even if you have an older phone, they have at least 1080p. Like if you can film in 4K, film in 4K.
The social media algorithms, they like to preference iPhones that have 4K.
If you don't have an iPhone, well, that's all right.
Some people who don't have iPhones make it too. No, I'm just saying you have a great camera.
So use that. You don't need anything fancy. I have a microphone. My first microphone was $20, and honestly, it was better than this microphone. I use this microphone because it has a longer battery life than the $20 one, but I have to modify the sound every single time. So don't worry about— you can just get a $20 microphone. In fact, in my Amazon shop, I have all the gear that I use. I have a light right in front of me that was $60. This light behind me, that was $24, right? Like nothing very expensive. The tripod, that this is on, it was $30. And that's because it was a fancier one that I can put in my purse. So you don't need anything really expensive to get started. You just need consistency. Consistency means doing your chosen social media every single day. Do you need to post on everything? No, not right away. Eventually you might want to reach out to more than one platform because what if a platform shuts down or what if a platform stops pushing you out? I've seen that happen to friends of mine who got really big on one thing. And that's why I actually run a lot of paid advertising. Anyhow, they work hand in hand. That's a whole other video. If you want to learn more about how does paid advertising and social media work together hand in hand, then comment below that that's something that you want to learn about and I'll make a video about it. Anyhow, thank you for watching. And I haven't even had my coffee yet. I'm going to have my coffee.
Mm.
Coffee. It's the one thing I'm not giving up.
Anyhow, it's early in the morning, but what do I want to be? I want to be consistent, right? So that I can Get more videos out to you so that I can reach my mission, right?
