In this short instructional segment, the speaker emphasizes the importance of comprehensive visual scanning when composing a photograph. Viewers are urged to look beyond the primary subject and assess the entire scene through the LCD or viewfinder, ensuring that essential elements—such as a friend's full body or a mountain peak—are not unintentionally omitted. The speaker explains that while sometimes omitting parts of a scene can enhance composition, photographers must use judgment to decide when to include or exclude elements. Additionally, the segment highlights the creative use of natural frames—like windows, arches, or surrounding trees—to add visual interest and structure to the image.

Framing, and more framing. Don't merely concentrate on the object when using an LCD or viewfinder. To ensure you do not unintentionally miss anything crucial, make sure to scan the entire frame with your eyes. For instance, the full scene should show your friend's entire physique or the summit of a mountain. You must use your own judgment. This isn't always the case, though, as occasionally leaving something out of the frame improves the composition. Moreover, consider whether anything around can serve as a natural framing for your photograph. Imagine looking out a window at a structure or an odd tree encircling a lovely lake.
