The excerpt is a hosted conversation between a host (labeled SPEAKER A) and Jen, a stay-at-home mom and TikTok Shop affiliate. They cover Jen's trajectory from modest earnings to hitting about $30K in a month, how she found a viral perfume product, practical content tactics (hooks, redoing successful videos, conversational car-style videos, sentence-level scripting), the role of the Miss Affiliate community/coaching, time-management and batching challenges, involving her husband in content, and concrete advice for other affiliates. The format is an interview/Q&A about growth strategies, workflow, and creator mindset on TikTok Shop.
Chapters
When did you hit 30K?
Last month. Like the other day, it was like $3,000 a day for me. Last year, my highest day was $600. Like I randomly just saw it on my For You page and I was like, I'm gonna try it. This was my first video and then it blew up. Saying things that piss people off is huge. Like 90% of people in my comments are not talking about the perfume, but it's boosting.
What did you say that rage baited? All right guys, I'm here today with Jen and she is a TikTok Shop affiliate and I'm honored because She consistently goes viral. She crushes it. She is beautiful. And she also hit 30K in a month. I don't know if that's your current record or is it more now?
It is. Well, I don't know about this month. Okay. I might go past it.
You might go past it?
Maybe.
It's August. What's the date?
It's like mid-August, so maybe. What are you at so far this month? I think I'm at— I'm so bad at like checking. I've been trying to do good at not checking.
That's good.
I like forget to check for days, which is good because I used to check like every hour. Yeah. Um, I might be at 15.
$15,000. Okay. So you might pass if you have maybe like 5 orders.
I definitely have hit Ruby this month. I'm trying to get to Emerald again because that was my first month getting Emerald.
Yeah. When did you hit $30K?
Last month.
And was it the same product?
Yeah.
Dang. Okay. So let's start. I want to kind of hear your story first, but I also want to come back to where you're at now. But let's go back. When did you start TikTok Shop Affiliate? What were you doing before? What got you into it? Like all of that.
So before, I'm just a mom. I'm just a mom.
Just that? Girl, never ever.
I'm a mom of 3 little babies. So before I was really doing nothing except being a mom, which was amazing. My husband works really hard days as a construction— he owns a construction company, so he's gone most of the day, works really hard. And so my goal as like a TikTok Shop affiliate is to let him Lessen that workload. Wow. Yeah.
W life.
I know. No, I'm going to get him into TikTok Shop. We already made a page.
Skits. Do skits together.
Yes. We've already done a little bit. We have to work on his being more comfortable because sometimes I'm like,
dude. You're not.
But anyway, how did I start? My girlfriend told me about TikTok Shop. When was this? This was like October or maybe September last— or 2 years ago.
2 years in September.
Okay.
And she's like, you have to get on TikTok Shop. I'm like, TikTok Shop's for like little kids. I'm not going on TikTok Shop. She's like, no, you can make like tons of money on TikTok. So I started doing like lifestyle content, like mom day in the life, gardening. We homeschool, so I did like tons of homeschool content. And then I got into TikTok Shop and just kind of went from there.
Did it take off for you right away? Like, what did that look like? No. Okay.
That's why I signed up for Miss Affiliate, because I I did TikTok shop for a year and a half before I joined, and I made like decent money where it was like, it was livable but not like crazy. I wanted like that stupid money where people are like, how are you on your phone all day and you make that stupid money?
So you were doing like $5K months?
More? Yeah, $5K to $7K. Maybe $5K to like $9K.
Okay, okay.
Which is like good, especially for like being a stay-at-home mom.
Not doing anything else.
Right, like my husband's like, how are you making close to what I'm making and you're at home? But I wanted to make like $30,000, $40,000, $50,000, $60,000. I wanted to just make stupid money. So I joined Miss Affiliate. I, before, was grabbing straws. I would just film this, then I would film this, and then I'd film this, and then I'd see that, and then I'd film that. I'd get a bunch of samples and just film that. And I would never remake the viral. If I got a viral video, I would just never—
Kind of let it do its thing, but you never thought to—
I never remade it. I never would do the product again. And so anyway, Miss Affiliate was something that Directed me
in the
right way. I'm so glad.
Okay, when did you join? Was it—
February?
February?
I think the end of February, just before the dinner in—
In LA? Yeah. Yeah. Okay, so what has helped you the most with Miss Affiliate, or just like joining community in general?
All of it is amazing. The girls, like, we've all become really close, which is amazing. Like, we text separately and have like relationships separately. We pump each other up on social media, which is incredible. And then just, of course, the coaches, like just listening in every week. Sometimes I still will catch myself in days like, okay, what am I doing? Where do I go? This day's not as good as yesterday.
It's so normal.
Right. And so if I just log in and I go on to a call, it's like, okay, we're gonna be okay. So I feel like there's a bit of direction in that way. Like your masterclasses, as far as finding viral products, I never knew how to do that before. I would just see something, I had no idea if it was gonna sell, I would just, see a water bottle and you're like, let's just try it. Yeah. So anyway, it's just given me direction.
Okay. So joined in February, but you're still also like, it's you putting in the work. So how do you feel like you have evolved as a creator that you're like, oh, now I feel like I'm actually doing something different than before? Just kind of like advice too for maybe an affiliate watching of like maybe someone that's stuck at like $5K a month, it doesn't have direction. What do you feel like clicked for you?
100% just redoing, doubling down on the videos that work. Like, okay, if you sell Do it again.
That's some kind of proof that it works. Totally.
Yeah. If you get— if you never get over 3,000 views and you get 4,000, do that one again. Like, do the meat all the same, change the hook.
Yes.
You know, like,
yes,
you don't have to like reinvent the wheel, as you say. You can just change. I learned like most recently, for me, I feel like you learn what you're good at. Like, you have like the nurse authority, whereas like I'm more conversational, like girl to girl, sit in the car.
Yeah, just chat. I'm so good at that.
I'm not as good as like, okay, I need to teach you why this ingredient works. 'Cause like, I don't know.
Yeah, which is honestly refreshing 'cause I think some people think, oh, I have to be like Jenn or like Anna. But like my content is so different from this girl's content who's viral, from this girl. It's like—
You find like your— Your thing.
Yeah. Yeah, and I feel like it's a mix of like understanding the framework, being conversational, but then like the product too. Like you have to double down when you see it.
Right, and for me, like if I realize Like, my car videos, my conversational girl-to-girl videos are what sells. Like, why am I gonna try to be you when I can do what works for me? Do that.
Yeah. Take also, like, every coach too, I think, brings their own unique principle that, like, I've learned from even Kaylie or, like, other girls thinking, okay, she tried it in her kitchen and it worked. Like, there's so many ways to do it.
Yeah. And I think I used to, before joining, I used to think, well, Annamaria does it like this, so this is how I need to do it. Where it's like, If my videos are selling when I'm doing it in my car, why change it?
Exactly. And honestly, I feel like the car videos are so much more relatable.
They are. They're just authentic. I think people like that it's not so salesy.
Yeah. Especially—
I don't know, somehow you still kill it sitting with a little—
I think it's because I do the nurse, the ring light. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But if I was doing fashion or home, I would be so different because I feel like I also understand, okay, the ring light sitting method wouldn't work for QVC. I would have to be in my kitchen.
That's another thing, Miss Affiliate, you guys really teach every sentence matters. I used to just think, she made a good video. I don't really know how, but it was great and I wanted to buy from her. But why? So you guys break down each sentence, basically, that each thing that you put in your video matters. I used to sit in my car and do a 4-minute video that needed to be 45 seconds because I was blabbering about what my favorite color was.
Yes!
And I'm like, why am I doing this? So I have now more of a structure when I go to sit down to film. I have bullet points of why I'm saying each thing and what it means. So it's like saved me a ton of time too.
Yeah. And you also, while you're doing that, it's like you're learning, right? You're practicing over and over. So now like next time you go, like, you got it down, right?
I don't have to blabber.
It's just like it— you don't even realize your subconscious like learning it.
It's crazy.
What is your schedule like now? Like, how much time do you put into it? What is your day-to-day? Like,
that's like the one thing I struggle with most, and that's something not really anyone can teach. It's just time. So I try not to do this anymore, but I still catch myself doing it. I get like 3 hours and I will batch film like 50 videos. Wow. And then when I'm done, I have no time to edit because I have to go back to my kids. So right now I have 200 drafts.
Oh my God. Which is crazy. But that's a good problem to have. That's money waiting to be made.
Totally. But I also feel like if I just sat down and had my bullet points of like what I need to say and filmed 5 really good videos in those couple hours and then edited them, I would be so much more organized. So I still feel like I'm learning so much. I'm definitely not like, oh, I joined and now I'm set, I'm done. I still need to— I think because for a year and a half I did it a certain way, I still am trying to change my set ways, I guess.
Unlearn habits if they're even bad, which I don't think doing it that way is necessarily bad, but it could be Holding back. Like, say if you did less but you were actually able to post 3 to 5 times a day because you're just editing and filming 3 to 5, right? That could be you having like the $50K, $60K a month because you've got the videos out, right? Versus like drafts, like daunting.
I think I just need to like— I am honing in on my products like I'm supposed to. I just need to film less and film like— it's not for me, it's not quantity over quality. It needs to be quality over quantity.
Quality, that's always what it is.
But I literally film once a week. Whereas I know a lot of girls film daily or a few times a week. I film once because that's all I have time for. Sometimes I'll throw a movie on for my kids and then run into the car. I'm like, yell out if you need anything! And I film, so I'll get a few other filming days in that way. I'll get an hour to myself. But yeah, it's a bit of a juggling act.
How old are your kids?
3, 5, and 7.
Wow. So you stay-at-home mom, your husband's working and you're just filming content and taking care of them. That's crazy.
Yeah, and I try, you know, you get mom guilt where it's like, I just need to edit a video. My kids are like, where are you? So I try even that. I'm staying up till midnight to edit videos. In between, literally, I'll be doing dishes. I am so weird though. If I'm in the kitchen cooking and no kids are in there, I'll quickly try to edit between while I'm cooking. And if they walk in, I'm like, no! I almost feel like I'm in school.
I'm not on my phone! You want to be present with them.
Yeah, and I hate— I think it's so sad when parents are just on their phone the whole time. So I try to— mom and work are totally separate.
But it's cool because I think even some girls have told me they don't think they can do it because they're a mom. Or they don't want to.
You've even said in your videos, you're like, I think if I have a kid, I'll be better with time management. Yeah. And although you'll be so stressed out with your time, it does— even Lainey was talking about it. She's like, I have no kids and no husband, so I can just do what I want. She's like, and I find myself doing the wrong thing or scrolling when I shouldn't. Whereas I don't have time to scroll.
You have the 1 hour. Right, you have to.
Yeah.
And you have more drafts than I would make in a week, girl.
I'm not even kidding. Yeah, I need to stop. I need like a week by myself to edit.
Yeah.
Or I need to hire an editor.
Yeah, if you trust someone. What has TikTok Shop done for you? Like you and your husband, what is that like?
Yeah, I mean, it's changed our life, I think. My husband at first was like, this is kind of silly, what are you doing?
Yeah, did he encourage or was he kind of like, don't do it?
I mean, he's always been supportive, but he was a little bit like, No one's going to want to buy from you. You're just posting product after product. He didn't understand. He's like, you're just selling stuff. I'm like, I know. But once he sees the money, he's like—
And what did he say?
It's so weird because I've heard TikTok Shop affiliates say this. You almost get numb to the money. You see it. The other day it was like $3,000 a day for me. And last year I feel like I would've been— actually no, I wouldn't have been because last year my highest day was $600.
Yeah, wow.
And my husband was like, we're sitting on the couch and he's like, you just made $600 today? And I was like, yeah, that's pretty cool. And he's like, why are you not more excited? And I was like, I have no idea. And then same thing happened last month, or like the other day, it's like $3,000. And he's like, actually— but now he's starting to be like me. He's like, oh yeah, cool, you made 3 grand.
It's like a readapt.
Yeah, it's so weird, but it has changed our life. Like, my goal now is to Make him work less. He works like such rigorous 10-hour days, 12-hour days. I'd love for him to like come home more. And we actually just started a TikTok, like we're gonna do a skit one, like a couples one.
Yeah.
Like, I mean, if you're making money—
Yeah, why can't I? He should. Yeah. And I do it with James. I force him to do it.
I know, I love your stuff where he's like— and he's like your little puppet.
Yeah. Just put makeup on him.
Yeah, we do skits. We have done like 2, and he needs a little bit of work, but we'll get there. He's just a bit like, oh, like a bit stiff. But he has an Australian accent and he's playful.
I think it would be— it just has to warm up. Or if you even ever want to do fashion or even a skincare thing where he's like, baby, what are you doing? When he's behind the scenes, that style also works if the guy's a little bit more shy.
So he's not fully in it. Yeah. We're going to do some outdoorsy stuff too because we do camping and family stuff.
Honestly, even if he has an account or 2 accounts, you have 2 accounts, it could easily start Doubling. That's like my biggest advice too. It's like if you have one account doing $38K, try a home account because now you understand it's not just— you're not just a beauty creator. You can literally take the same principles of like a good hook, a good script, and apply it to like a skit, a dress, like kitchen supplies. Like that's what it takes. And I feel like I didn't even know that a long time ago. And when I learned that—
Just breaking it down.
Yeah, it really, really helped me. But
yeah,
that's crazy that I'm so like, it makes me so happy for you.
I know, I'm just like, we both are like, if we can do this together, we can just— he even said that he's like, I'm gonna have to leave the house because we're gonna like, we're gonna be around each other too much.
You're gonna turn into like affiliate, like full-time affiliate.
Oh my god, I'm gonna be like, can you go back to your job? Yeah, and get out of here. No, but I think it'll be, I think it'll be so fun.
How'd you find the viral product, the perfume that made you—
I just saw, I, that was like I feel like people think that you have to pick a winning product and if everybody's doing it, you need to do it. Whereas like, I randomly just saw it on my For You page and I was like, I'm gonna try it. Like, I don't even— before that, I never even wore perfume. Like, I'm not even a perfume person.
That's really good advice.
Yeah. And then I just tried it. And normally it's like you gotta do a video like 10 times to make money on it sometimes. This was my first video And I think learning what works for you, like I said, the girl-to-girl, like I think the unpackaging something on camera is massive because everyone's like, I want to see what it is. But yeah, I just randomly saw it and I was like, I'm just going to try it. And then it blew up.
That's crazy. And it was just in your car, like skit, like normal.
No scripting. Just authentic. Authentic. Just like—
and that's the one that's still viral, right?
Yes. And like rage bait, of course, saying things that piss people off is huge. Like 90% of people in my Comments are not talking about the perfume, but it's boosting.
What did you say that ragebaited?
I'm not gay.
Oh, in the beginning! I'm not gay, but— oh my gosh, that's funny.
People got so mad at me. Like, so many straight people thought I was being really rude, and all the gay people were like, I'm not offended. Yeah, that's funny.
But ragebait, it works. I do it all the time. I'll spell words wrong. Like, I'll say like Kylie Kardashian. People will be like, what? Or like, you spell it wrong.
Yeah, you have to do— I've realized ragebait Storytelling for me and conversational.
Is what works for you?
Yeah.
Okay, what— if we're to wrap it up, what is— because you're really good with the advice— what advice would you have for a girl that wants tangible, practical advice? What could she take and apply to her video to maybe see an improvement?
Study viral videos and look at every sentence. Why are they saying what they're saying? And also film that viral video and look at the two of them. Because I've done that, I'm like, why did her video sell so much and mine didn't? And then I'll stare at hers and stare at mine, I'm like, hers was so much better, why? And then just break it down, because sometimes it's really hard to be hard on yourself, as far as you think, that was a great video, why is it not selling? But if you really compare the viral video that's selling really well, there's differences. There's differences. Whether it's like cutting out a bit of the fluff inside, you know, like there's things that you can totally do, like tiny little tweaks that can take you—
Yeah, which I can tell with yours, like you're setting the phone down, you're saying the hook, pacing is everything. And I've even seen girls not necessarily steal it necessarily, but on my For You page try to recreate your video.
Yeah, yeah.
People are taking inspo from it, but it is so different because it doesn't feel the same or authentic. Yeah. You can't really teach that to everyone, but you should learn from viral videos, recreate them to see if you can, but then add your own thing.
Do your own flair too, because I have seen other girls do literally my same story.
Yes.
And I'm like, do you even have kids? Does that— like, that doesn't even make sense. Yeah. And people have been commenting, they're like, why is this the 3rd video I saw of the mom like— I'm like,
yeah,
I don't know.
It's not gonna be as authentic.
You gotta like take what they're doing and then make your story out of it.
Yes. And the principles, like, okay, she found it with the audience, tried it, and like was like, wow, this is amazing. You can't like script always that, but you did it each line intentionally. Right. That's really good advice.
Yeah.
Honestly, like inspiring me to go film. I want to try the perfume.
Do it. I don't know what perfume. There's like a whole—
it's a whole bunch. That could be your niche. Like, girl, the luxury perfumes are crushing right now.
I know.
Like the YSL dupe. You should do that one next.
I haven't done that one yet. I have— I will say I did like the bad thing where you order too many samples, and I did like— I'm like, I'm crushing it in this perfume. I ordered like 10 perfumes and I'm like I have all these perfumes sitting on my vanity.
Did you get the YSL dupe one though? No. Okay, girl, you need to get that one.
Have you smelled it?
No, but it's like top 10 on TikTok Shop, so maybe it could pull you a little bit.
Yeah.
If you take the scent. I don't know, worth a shot. My, my advice, I guess. But thank you so much for sharing, and yeah, congrats on hopefully hitting it again this month, maybe more.
Yeah, hopefully passing it. Just up, just going up from here.
Give you a little hug. You look so cute, you're like a little fairy. You're so beautiful. Oh, thank you.
