In this first‑person account, Nina Granucci, CEO and co‑founder of Green Spot Technologies, explains how her biotech company—focused on using fermentation to create cocoa, chocolate, and confectionery ingredient alternatives—connected with an investor at the InvestHer Summit. After winning the pitch competition, Nina engaged in an informal conversation with the investor, sparked by a name coincidence, which led to an invitation to present at another event. The investor helped Nina draft an Earthshot Prize proposal, deepening their relationship. By 2024 they formalised plans, and in 2025 the investor committed to a €5 million funding round, also bringing additional backers. Nina highlights the Summit as a supportive, safe space where founders can openly discuss challenges and opportunities, fostering both financial backing and lasting personal connections beyond pure investment.

So I'm Nina Granucci. I'm the CEO and co-founder of Green Spot Technologies. And Green Spot is a fermentation company, is a biotech company that today we are using fermentation to keep food as food. So we are producing ingredients, mainly today focused on cocoa and chocolate alternatives and confectionery ingredients. Using the power of fermentation. Yeah, so I was at the summit to actually receive a prize for the pitch competition, and I sit on the— actually on the side of the investor, and we start talking, and there was a few coincidences about my name and her daughter's name, and there was a a few other things that was happening into the conversation because it was a very like informal kind of a conversation initially. And she got interested, she invited me to another event to also present the company. Yeah, and from this point we start talking about maybe some investment as she was interested in the company. We really started thinking about how this investment could happen, and it was also an opportunity that you nominated me for the Earthshot Prize, and she actually helped me to write the proposal, the initial proposal for the Earthshot. actually got to know more about Greenspot and the conversations about the investment also kind of got more serious, let's say in this way. And yeah, finally after that, in 2024, we really arranged that to happen. And then yes, in 2025, she actually did the investment in the company. And not only that, she brought other investors also in the table to support our round that was a €5 million round of investment in Greenspot. It's a summit that allows you to have like this really open conversation with founders. I think it's an environment where you feel quite comfortable as a founder to talk about your company and also to put all the challenges, but also all the advantages you have to be in the room. So I think, yeah, for investors, it's really a place where you can get a good understanding of the companies and the wonderful companies that are in the room. I think the Summit, it's exactly more or less the same, but on the opposite side. It offers you this safe space, I would say, to talk about the company and to really put there forward what are the challenges. And you get a lot of people actually to support you, not only financially, but that can eventually become something that happened, but also I mean, just a really good talk and good advice from many people. So definitely a place to be. I think just that not only I met an investor, but I met a wonderful person that I really do appreciate and that we have like really personal relationships, not as an investor. I think this summit also provides you this kind of a link that goes beyond just an investment in your company. Wonderful. Thank you so much, Nina.
